The Federal Government, on Monday, described those who attacked eight
communities in Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State unknown
gunmen, in a statement released by the Minister of Interior, Gen.
Abdulrahman Danbazzau

Regretting the attack, in which suspected Fulani herdsmen were alleged to have massacred about 500 people, the minister vowed that government will deal with the perpetrators.
Referring to the attackers as unknown gunmen, Danbazzau said government “has vowed to mobilize security forces to decisively deal with the perpetrators of these dastardly acts”.
The statement issued by the Press Secretary to the minister, Osaigbovo Ehisienmen, claimed that Dambazau had earlier directed the Inspector General of Police to carry out on the spot assessment of the situation in the communities, adding that perpetrators of the dastardly acts are unwittingly testing the will and capabilities of government security forces.
The minister, who expressed his condolence to the government and people of Benue State, noted that guaranteing the security and welfare of the people as enshrined in section II, subsection (2b) of 1999 Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria remains the primary purpose of government”.
Continuing, the statement also stated that the federal government has further directed the Inspector General of Police and other Heads of Security Agencies under the ministry to work together with other security services to speedily arrest the ugly trend and bring its perpetrators to justice.
It would be recalled that about 500 people across eight communities have been killed while over 10, 000 were displaced after suspected herdsmen invaded eight communities in Agatu local government area of Benue state.
