Opera Launches Free Unlimited VPN For iOS

Over the last few weeks, Opera has upped its game and delivered several new features to its existing products. The developer version of its desktop browser now includes a free VPN and an inbuilt ad-blocker. Just over a week ago too, Opera Mini received an update that lets you block ads from showing on the mobile browser.

Opera has taken it even further by launching a free VPN app for iOS. This doesn’t only encrypt your connection and change your IP address, it also has features that let you block ads from showing in all browsers and prevent websites from tracking you.
I installed the app and it does exactly what is says. For now, you can switch between 5 different countries while using the virtual private network.
Unfortunately, the ad-blocker has no whitelist. All ads are blocked and there’s no way to support sites you like. We lamented about this when this same feature was added to Opera Mini.
Opera VPN has no hidden charges, it is completely free. These recent moves from Opera on all platforms are to generate more awareness for its desktop browser. If you’re wondering what else Opera gains from this, Chris Houston, president of Surf Easy explains:

*"
“ [Opera makes money] by collecting anonymous data about how people use their mobile device. This information is made available to third parties who are interested in better understanding the mobile ecosystem and how it’s evolving.**

Well, data collected cannot identify you personally, these are more like survey data about how a group of people use their devices. Opera too explains that advertising may later be introduced within the app.
Theres no word yet on when the free VPN app wil be available on Android.

5 Snapchat tricks every Nigerian should know

Nigerians have proven that Snapchat is indeed addictive! The moment you find anyone with their nose in their phone these days, he or she is most probably checking their feeds and uploading snaps. A user can send any of the “snaps” or images created on the app to friends, including their own personal touch, which delete themselves after a couple of hours.

While the app can create a lot fun, it however has a complex user interface which makes it very hard to use, and as such, so many users are unaware of more than half of the things they could do with it.

For users looking to graduate from the basic level of just sending photos & videos to friends, Jovago.com, Africa’s No.1 online hotel booking site has made a list of 5 cool tricks that will ensure users make the most out of the app and even impress their friends.

Add music to your snaps

Unknown to a lot of users, the Snapchat app allows the inclusion of music to videos taken with the app and it is a very easy process. You do not need to play the music in the background while making the video as you may not get the sound quality you desire. All you need to do is play the song you want in your video through a music player app on your smartphone, and while the song is playing, record a video on Snapchat. Magical!
Resize Emoji characters
Sometimes, you want to enlarge an Emoji on your screen or make it smaller. To achieve that, all you need to do is select the one you want to use; next, hit the "T" symbol in the upper right corner; then, using two fingers preferably your index finger and your thumb, zoom in and out of the Emojis. The process of zooming in or out determined how much bigger or smaller you make it eventually.
Switch between cameras while filming
This is a trick that you certainly cannot achieve on other social media apps. Rather than capture your film all from one point of view, you can actually create videos of your face and your POV by swapping between front-facing and rear cameras during your snaps. This does not only make the filming process super fun, it makes the snap very engaging for viewers

See the views your story

The whole point of recording snaps is so people can view it and maybe make their comment, so, naturally, every user will want to know how many views they have per snap, as well discover the identity of the people who made the views. While it seems like there is no option to achieve the latter, it pretty simple. All you need to do is go to the “Stories” tab, available one swipe away from the home page.  A tap on “My Story” reveals an eyeball with a number next to it. Tap on that eyeball and you'll get a drop-down list with the names of all your followers who have viewed it.

Combine two filters in one snap
Every single person on the social media will attest to the fact that filters are the best! Filters can literally transform a look or view and make it much more appealing. Generally, filters make the Snapchat experience  much more exciting, so imagine how much more fun you can have using two filters at once? It is possible!  You can actually use an image filter along with one of the data label filters that are available. All you need to is apply the first filter on a snap, then hold one finger on the display while using another finger to choose between the other filters. It is not tedious at all.

10- Year- Old Jani Hacked Instagram , Cash In $ 10, 000 Reward From Facebook

A 10 - year old named Jani was able to hack the world wide social media platform “ Instagram ” , and thus earning him $ 10 ,000 from Facebook according to news site,
Iltalehti. Jani figured out a way to get into Instagram ’ s servers and delete text posted by Instagram users . Jani was rewarded $ 10 , 000 by Facebook as part of its bug bounty program , which offers cash rewards to people who find bugs and flaws in Facebook ’s digital infrastructure . That includes the Facebook -owned Instagram .
The boy told Iltalehti that he could delete what people wrote on the picture- sharing social media, demonstrating it to Instagram by deleting a comment they made on a test account . Jani said he could even delete Justin Bieber’ s comments with the flaw he found . According to the boy ’s father , Jani and his twin brother have found security flaws in websites before , but they haven ’t been significant enough to justify a payout , until this one .
Facebook ’s bug bounty program welcomes anyone to find bugs and flaws , and offers cash rewards to problems that are significant , similar to Google ’s own security rewards program . According to the most recent release from Facebook , the company received over 13 , 000 submissions from researchers in 2015 alone , 526 of which were valid reports . In 2015 , Facebook paid out a total of $ 936 ,000 to 210 researchers, averaging about $ 1 ,780 per submission .

MTN Surprise Plan: How To Subscribe To MTN 5GB + N2560 Airtime For Just N2000

Mtn has surprised us with another tripping offer which i think is cool to go for if not for anything but for the Airtime that is accompanied with the data.

Before now, we use to pay N2,500 to subscribe for MTN 4.5GB data but now you can get 5GB including free N2560 Airtime to call any network for just N2000. Isn't that a good development by MTN? Though we expect more affordable data plans but this one is one step closer to achieving that.

How To Activate This Data Plan

==> If you are not on MTN TrueTalk, Simply migrate to MTN Truetalk by dialing *400#
==> Recharge N2000 on your MTN line
==> Send D2000 to 131 in an SMS to get the offer. Both the data and call is valid for 30days.

Check your account balance with *556# and you will see the airtime. You can also dial *559# to check your data balance.

.Wait! There is another one...
Do you know you can as well get N1950 free credit and 100MB data with only N500?
To get this, you must be on MTN TrueTalk tariff plan, then load your line with N500
and SMS V500 to 131 you will be given both the data and airtime but this time, its valid for just 7 days.

I am expecting competition from other networks like Etisalat, Airtel and glo. They need to counter MTN or they loose a good number of their customers especially
this period of free data scarcity. With more competition, the subscribers will gain.

5 keywords Nigerians should avoid in emails

Like the rest of the world, Nigerians have replaced hard-copy memos and letters with e-mails. The average person would rather send an email -whether personal or for official purposes- than type it out on paper. Unfortunately, emails can make things go horribly wrong as certain words used can come off as haughty when the original intent was probably to sound proactive, efficient or even  likable.

Communicating via email does not take away the need to stay careful in the choice of words as certain terms or words with meanings that can easily be identified when said in person- based on the speaker’s facial expression and tone- may sound completely different when used in emails. For Nigerians who are not conversant with some of these dicey words, Jovago.com, Africa’s No.1 online hotel booking portal reveals the five most common.

Sorry

This is the word commonly used to show remorse or regret, however, the word has been so overused that it is no longer taken seriously. In fact, some people consider it non-genuine and hardly acknowledge it. If you need to apologize when you have done something wrong, rather than say “sorry”, use a phrase like "I apologize". “I apologize, it totally slipped my mind”  looks a lot better than “Sorry, I forgot!”

No

In a normal conversation, you can easily say something like: “No, it belongs to the company” with a soft tone that implies you are not being judgmental or acting superior. However, in an e-mail, the “No” can make the same statement sound even condemnatory. Using the word “No” in an email can be very dicey, so it is best to just omit it and stick with the compliers.

Actually

Commonly used as sentence starters or transitional words in everyday communication, “Actually” can actually come off as condescending, as though you intend to correct someone or an idea. For instance, you could reply an email with the sentence: “Actually, I have to leave work by 5pm today” and It would sound extremely rude and combative. Actually has a way of turning a simple response into an awful one. Instead, use alternative

Thanks

“Thanks” is something almost everyone writes at the end of an email, especially when we are in a rush, however, the expression -which is a short form of “thank you”- is often considered sarcastic or unprofessional, especially when used in official situations. It is important to always use the full form of the phrase when writing e-mails.

Need

The word “need” almost always comes off strong. Most times, using the word suggests that you place yourself in a position of authority, superior to the person receiving the message. Also, it sounds demanding. It may be preferable to use phrases like “I would like...”

5 Simple Signs That You Need a New Phone

There are several brands of phones available in the tech space today that you will be spoilt for choices. The lifespan of these devices varies. It is therefore, follows that the number of years you have used a phone does not really count when it comes to the repair or replacement of a phone. Hence, it is important for you to look out for some signs that will be shared by Jovago.com, Africa's No 1 hotel booking portal. If you notice or observe anyone of these signs, it is perhaps time to buy a new phone.

It suddenly shuts down

If your phone frequently shuts down while you were calling a number, chatting on WhatsApp or playing a game, then you need to ditch that phone for a new one. You can adjust the batteries but if it still shuts down on it is own, it is requesting that you should let go.

The touch screen takes forever to respond

Your touch screen is meant to respond immediately you swipe your fingers. This is why it is called a touch screen phone. However, if the touch screen is very slow in responding, it may be time to either change the touch screen or purchase a new phone.

Cracked Touch Screen

Of course, you may forget that you put your expensive and latest iPhone in your back pocket and immediately you sit down, it cracks. In other cases, your hands may be slimy and it drops the screen cracks. Hmmm...it destroys the beauty and fancy of the phone. The crack may not affect the touch screen but it makes your phone 'ugly'. You can only manage it for some time. But someday, the crack will spread and render it unusable. You can take it to computer village in Lagos for repairs or walk into one of the malls and pick a new one.

The Battery life is short

For a battery, you can simply change it. However, if you are lucky you will get a good battery. Aside that, when the original battery does not last more than 15 minutes after being fully charged, you will spend your hard earned money on buying substandard batteries.

You say hello several times

When calling a friend, you have to either shout at the top of your voice for them to hear you or you say hello several times, it means your phone's speaker is faulty. You may want to get it checked.
