Keep Your Family Safe In Case Of Boko Haram Attacks

President Buhari has given three months to the army to eliminate Boko Haram. The army chief said the job will be done until December.
It’s obvious that the terrorist group will do everything to prove the government and the army chief wrong. First, by multiplying attacks, and, second, by extending them to new areas like the southeast and the southwest.

Until last week, Boko Haram attacks were very much limited to Maiduguri and its nearby villages in Borno state. The last week bomb attacks on Abuja — the “strongholds of the apostates,” as Boko Haram calls the city — may signal a new audacity of the sect to venture so far from its stronghold in order to commit its attacks
and spread fear.

It’s hard to predict what location Boko Haram will target next. Police stations, markets, schools and publics places have been their main focus. Their methods include assassinations, suicide bombings, hostage- taking, kidnapping. And the death toll of their attacksranges from 11,121 to 33,000 , accordingly to Responsibility to Protect, an NGO focusing on human rights protection.
The duty to protect citizens falls on our government, but up until now, our government had failed at that responsibility.
Fear is already spreading in the south capital cities and big metropoles. So, our intention with this post is to provide you and your family with simple guidelines you can follow to minimize fear and prepare you for any eventuality.

The following ten points are things you can do to prepare for Boko Haram attacks, reduce the stress that you may feel now or later. Taking preparatory action can reassure you and your family, and give you a sense of control even in the face of such events.

Here are the 10 guidelines.

1. Collect information: call the Nigerian Red Cross or Red Crescent One of the first things you should do is contact your local Red Cross or Red Crescent organization. Tell them you are worried about your and your family’s safety in case of the Boko Haram terrorist attack. Then ask them
if they could help you with information to handle your children’s questions and also prepare your family for any eventuality. All over the word, the Red Cross has developed know- how in public information and training for civilians to prepare for terrorisst attacks, earthquakes or civil wars.

The more people start calling them and requesting information and training, the faster they will respond and act in your favor.
You can reach the Nigeria Red Cross Society at
07098832512 and find their branch in your state and city here .

2. Talk to your family, especially children
Children are not immune to the news. They can access information on TV, radio. On the Internet, they are exposed to images that could hurt their psychological balance. It’s therefore very important to take the initiative to talk to them, as well as to other members of the family. The conversation could start with simple questions like: “Have you heard about Boko Haram?” “What do you think about them?” “How do you feel about them?” “What would you like to know?”
These questions would elicit lot of responses from your family members, which should lead to sharing information, tips, and designing a family emergency plan in case of attack.
Talking is the first cure for fear. So talk in non-
threatening or inflammatory way to your family,
neighbours, colleagues. Eventually, this would lead to a community watch or a vigilance group.

3. Avoid crowds
As much as possible, avoid crowds, as they may be the preferred targets for an attack.
Any success of the army against Boko Haram will lead to the terrorist group conducting, in retaliation or desperation, more spectacular and large-scale attacks on civilians in order to traumatize the population. This is the reason why we must be more vigilant during this period of the army engagement with the insurgents and their sponsors.
Boko Haram main targets may be markets, shopping centers, bars, nightclubs, large autobuses, open-field concerts, stadiums, beaches, etc. Stay away from such places where large crowds gather. Only visit such places when you are well aware of the security measures taken by the managers of the event and local authorities. In cases you have no choice but to go to a crowded place, learn alternate routes and exits, think about a fallback location where you will go to regroup with your family or group. Do what you have to do as quickly as possible and get out of there.

4. Avoid unattended cars and trucks, as these may contain explosives Most terrorist attacks on civilians are conducted either with car/trucks bombs or automatic rifles. Both are usually unexpected and sudden. They are therefore
difficult to predict, so few precautions could help. As general guideline, avoid taking street in front of police stations where cars are parked. Make sure you quickly enter public building, and don’t stay too long on streets full of people and parked cars. In the end, listen to your instincts, and follow their guidance as swiftly as possible. Sometime our sixth sense knows more than we think.

5. Plan your reactions
People who know in advance where are the exit signs and routes in a building have better chances to survive in case of a disaster. This means the best way to protect yourself is to plan ahead few gestures and conducts you’d take in case of attack. You can ask your local civil protection organization or the local Red Cross how you should react in various events like a car bomb, a suicide bomb, a rifle attack, a kidnapping, a school attack, etc. Make sure you learn the necessary gestures and practices with your children if necessary. Few of these gestures are listed below.

6. Keep these things with you
If possible, always carry a bottle of water with you. The first thing you might look for when under stress is water to drink. Some disaster and emergency experts suggest to always keep a small knife and small pocket lamp. Put your family numbers on a short dial list in case you’d need to send a distress or a notification message. For example, some people stick on the back of their phone a list of numbers to call in case of emergency. The national emergency numbers are toll-free dial 767 / 112 for police, ambulance, emergency services. Your local police emergency numbers are listed here . Save them in your phone and memorize the most important ones. Finally, think about installing Facebook Safety Check application to notify your family and friends about our status updates.

7. If there is a sudden explosion or shooting around you — Here are few reflexes you should prepare yourself to act on:
— Get under a sturdy table or desk. If things are falling around you, wait until they stop falling, then try to leave quickly. Watch for obviously weakened floors and stairways.
— If you see people choking and collapsing, it may mean that some chemical stuff has been released in the air, so cover your nose and your mouth, even with the thin fabric of a scarf or a shirt (especially if it’s wet). This will make a difference and reduce the chances of inhaling chemical/biological agents, not to mention the
smoke and dust that will be in the air after the
explosion.
— Find a spot behind a support beam or a concrete pillar; this will protect you from random bullets or even stop debris from hitting you in the eventuality of an explosion.
— If danger is somewhere outside and you’re inside of a building, control your curiosity and stay away from the windows to avoid random bullets or debris in case of a second explosion. Do not stand in front of windows,
glass doors, or any object that might easily break and hurt you.
— Move away from damaged buildings or shops.

8. If you are trapped under debris
In case you are trapped under debris, try to find a tight area where you still can breathe. If you can move, make sure you carefully check the surroundings. Get close to a door or a window where you can call for help or access light. If the building you’re in is not severely damaged or burning, you should stay inside and call for rescue.

9. Keep calm, but call for help
Panic kills more than bombs and diseases. Therefore, it’s important that you keep calm, so you still keep a clear head to outsmart the tragic events around you. If you are wounded, don’t hesitate to shout for help. Emergency people would first notice people who would call for help, and would first evacuate those who are visibly asking to be evacuated. Be polite, but express
your need to be seen by a doctor immediately.

10. Help others who are hurt or need assistance
In such a troubled period in our country, it’s important to bring your family members to the civil protection training, or the Red Cross first-aid training camps. Those are generally free, or for very a little fee. In case of emergency, you’d be able to help your family members, your children and save your own life. Those are life-long skills that would be helpful beyond just a terrorist attack threat.

In conclusion, the most important guideline is to have a united family in the face of common terrorist threat. Talk about terrorism, spend time with your family and talk to your children about their fears of terrorist incidents. If possible, make a family presentation about how you understand the origins of Boko Haram, share your ideas
about how collectively you can contribute to defeat them. Use simple words that even young children can understand. There is more knowledge in your family than you think.
Be safe.

Patrick Obahiagbon Blasts Clark And GEJ

Patrick Obahiagbon made some unflattering remarks, responding Edwin Clark’s recent statements about GEJ as being “ too a gentleman ” to fight corruption. Patrick Obahiagbon says he doubts Papa Clark anf GEJ didn’t see the ways to fight corruption Patrick Obahiagbon, the former member of the House of Reps, harshly criticised Edwin Clark’s recent statements concerning ex-president Goodluck Johnatan era.

Clark, who used to be one of Goodluck Jonathan’s loyal supporters, but quit the PDP party recently , made some controversial remarks about GEJ after that, telling that Jonathan was “ too a gentleman ” to fight corruption.

“ Jonathan didn’t have the political will-power to fight corruption,” Clark claimed, adding that “ Jonathan meant well for this country, but the will power to fight corruption was not there.”
Responding to Clark’s remarks, Patrick Obahiagbon called the political legacy Jonathan and Clark left Nigeria a “ Damnosa Hereditas ”; the term meaning a harmful or burdensome inheritance.

Patrick Obahiagbon blasted Clark in his statement, telling that “ I would expect that this animadversion from Papa Clark would put an irrefragable quietus to all Jonathanian political jingoists still spewing and yarning Goebbelsian sputum in support of former president Jonathan. This is because if there exists anybody who should have intimate knowledge of the concentric layers of malversation that characterized the failed Jonathan administration, it would be Papa Clark, the self- proclaimed father of Jonathan. But has Papa Clark said
anything new? The answer is a resounding NO and that was why Nigerians voted for President Buhari in their gargantuan numbers.”

Patrick Obahiagbon also added that “ it took the
eschewable fall of Jonathan for Papa Clark to peregrinate the road of the biblical Damascus and the scales thus falling off the eyes of Jonathan’s political father is not only execrable but demonstrates a putrid and rancid narration of the story of Nigeria’s political class as a Damnosa Hereditas. ” Chief Edwin Clark, one of former president, Goodluck Jonathan’s staunch supporters, has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Wednesday. Ahead of the presidential election Edwin Clark blasted the presidential candidate of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC), Gen. Muhammadu Buhari, saying
that “ it’s clear that apart from clinging to sectional, ethnic and religious sentiments, the APC presidential candidate has no idea of running a democratic state.” However, when Buhari won the election, Clark made a U-turn in his statements: “I congratulate you and reassure you that as you get to commence the process of peaceful transition and government, you will have my full support,” he told. After Clark on Wednesday, October 7, announced that he had quit the Peoples Democratic Party, accusing the
former president of lacking the political will to fight corruption , ex-militants under the aegis of the Niger Delta Liberation Force (NDLF) have asked Chief Edwin Clark, the former federal commissioner for information to shut up.

#LadiesOnly: 4 Glamorous Hairstyles That Attract The Coolest Men

Men may not be the most knowledgeable when it comes to female fashion but we sure know a thing or two about the kind of hairstyles we find attractive in women.

Attractive hairstyles help remind us how much we need to hurry up and put a ring on the finger of the women we love. Quite a number of magazines have talked about the kind of hair we men would like to our women wear. However, a
lot have focused on the hair of white women and very little has been written about curly and wavy hair which is common amongst black folks.
So, here are four hairstyles that women with curly, wavy, thick, locked, strong and kinky beautiful hair can wear that is bound to attract the coolest of men.

-The Afro

The Afro look has been a signature kind of look for black men and women since the eighteenth century and it has now crossed over to white and Hispanic people too. But, overall black men can get to learn to love this look more. This look attracts strong and powerful men who believe in the equality of races. What we are talking about here are men who don’t take nonsense from people and who will be able to defend you and your appearance anywhere and anytime. We are talking about the kind of man that will help apply cream to your scalp happily without having a need to take your picture to flaunt all over social media.

-The Slick Baldy Or African Queen

The bald look is one that reeks of a brave and bold attitude. This look attracts comfortable men who are proud to take their women out in public while rubbing on her head with loving intent. Men that are attracted to women with this kind of hairstyle are in no way basic men. They love the accentuating effect of your face without much hair own added with the way the sunlight reflects off of your head. Men who keep to time are also attracted to you given the fact that you won’t spend much time to prepare for an event nor take the whole night trying to fix your hair. He knows that by the time he’s out to warm up the car, you’re already seated waiting for him in the passenger’s seat, ready to go.

-Independent Dreadlocks

Quite a number of people see the dreadlocks as nasty andand rough looking, but they are nothing less than beautiful. Independent and free spirited men are attracted to women who rock this type of hairstyle. On their part, the women are mostly CEO of their own company and are not limited by societal pressures. More so, the men that
are attracted to these type of women are usually those who have no reservations about taking the backseat to his woman’s goal-oriented attitude which exudes nothing but ambition and class.
The thing that makes the hairstyle even better is if you’re lucky enough to have a man that rocks the same hairstyle too. This would get friends drooling over you both. There is really nothing more beautiful.

-Braids

The braided hairstyle attracts men who love women that are adorable and never act crazy in public but who can still handle their own anytime it is necessary. Women who rock this hairstyle usually enjoy being around cute friends and their men never mind. Despite the fact that men always want to talk to them, all they really want is that man that sees them differently.

9 simple Tips To Boost Your Confidence

Becoming more confident is about taking consistent and repeated steps. These strategies will help you stand out of the crowd and boost your confidence and overall self- esteem

APPRECIATE YOURSELF
What is your best physical feature? How about your finest character trait? Many people find it much easier to think about their flaws than their qualities. If you only notice what you perceiveto be wrong with you then it is difficult to build up your confidence.Try making a list, including positive physical attributes and character traits. Are there any you noted down that surprised you?

RECHARGE YOUR BATTERIES
If you are busy at work it can be draining so try to cut back on the activities outside work that make you tired. Ensure your spare time is used for relaxing things that recharge your batteries.
Plan your time in such a way that you don’t wait until you have completely run out of energy before you have time on your own.

GET ENOUGH SLEEP
Confidence requires the ability to think clearly so sleep is key. Research has shown that exposure to light in the evening suppresses the production of melatonin, the hormone that controls sleep and wake cycles. Looking at smartphones, tablets or computers stimulates our brains and we therefore find it hard to switch off when we try to go to sleep. Keep technology out of the bedroom and try to get around eight hours of unbroken sleep each night.

BREATHE SLOWLY
The natural reactionwhenweare stressed is for our breathing to quicken and become shallower and you must counteract this.Slowing your breathing down will help you to think clearlyandmaintain a sense of calm. When you lack confidence in a situation keep your breathing slow and deep.Inhaling for a count of eight then exhaling for eightcan be useful in levelling your breathing. To make the practice even more relaxing close your eyes to focus on
your breath.

REMEMBER THAT YOU’RE NOT PERFECT
At times you’re going to mess up. You will miss the point or get the wrong end of the stick. These moments are not your downfall. It’s what you do with them that counts.
One way of building your tolerance to these moments is by having more of them. Find something that will stretch and challenge you. For example join your local theatre group and get out of your comfort zone.

FAKE IT TO MAKE IT
Choose a specific situation that makes you nervous.Itmay be something simple like walking into a meetingoritmay be when you next meet someone whom you find intimidating. For the nextmonthensure that before each of your chosen situations you adopt a “power pose” for a minimum of two minutes.Hold yourhead up, put your arms behind your head and stretch your legs out. When we are nervous we tend to want to make ourselves as small as possible, folding our arms and lowering our heads. Practise opening yourself up to release tension and after a month of doing this notice how you feel in these situations. You will realise that you feel different, less stressed and in greater control of the situation.

BE POSITIVE
Imagine the effect on your confidence if you believed that the whole universe and everything in it was working in your favour.
Say to yourself each morning “I can do it” and “it will be OK”.
Being positive will help you to feel better and more confident.
Research shows that happy people are 31 per cent more productive than those who are negative, neutral or stressed.
Training yourself to look for the positive will help you to make better decisions more quickly and to be more productive.

PLAN FOR THE BEST
Many people assume they should plan for the worst. This includes how they travel, how they plan their finances, their relationships and more.
Turn this on its head to try to think more optimistically about your situation. For example think about your attitude to going on holiday.
Do you pack for every possible eventuality, incurring baggage charges at the airport or an aching back from carrying cases? Instead, why not just check the weather forecast and pack based on that. If something unexpected comes along you can always buy or borrow something.

DON’T GIVE UP
Imagine you had a confidence muscle. To strengthen a muscle you need to exercise over and over again and in doing so it grows bigger and stronger. It is the same with confidence.
Becoming more confident is about taking consistent and repeated steps. The reason we often feel lacking in confidence is as a result of something being new, unfamiliar and outside our comfort zone. Keep at it. By repeating small, confidence boosting actions over and over again our brains begin to create new connections and
in doing so our comfort zone begins to expand.

'National security remains our topmost priority', President says

President Muhammadu Buhari has said that significant improvements in national security remains the topmost priority of his administration.

The president made the statement on Thursday in Abuja when he granted audience to Britain's Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Nicholas Houghton.
He said that security was imperative because other socio-economic initiatives could not be successfully implemented without adequate security in the country. He reaffirmed the determination of his administration to end the Boko Haram insurgency as quickly as possible.

Buhari said: "for a country to be efficiently administered, it must first be well secured because other social and economic initiatives cannot thrive in an atmosphere of insecurity.

"An environment has to be secured before it can be rehabilitated. Nigeria currently has about 1.5 million internally displaced persons and they need to be returned to their homes and brought out of trauma. "Their schools, hospitals, churches, mosques, farms and livelihoods have been destroyed by insurgents. If they are not catered for, the country may lose their loyalty.

"When Boko Haram is pushed out and the environment secured, normal life will be restored.

"That is what we are determined to do. Other things like farming, economic activities and social life will then return. Nigerians are quite enterprising.’’

The president said that Nigeria appreciated Britain's support for the retraining of its Armed Forces and asked for more assistance in other areas such as logistics, equipment and intelligence. He also called for more international support for regional efforts to improve security in the Gulf of Guinea through which "crude oil stolen from Nigeria is shipped’’.

In his remarks, Houghton said that the Buhari Presidency was a huge opportunity for Nigeria to make progress. He said that he was very impressed with the progress Nigeria had made in the war against terrorism under Buhari. Houghton assured the President that Britain would continue to support the Federal Government's efforts to end the Boko Haram insurgency.

"We will also help to ensure that the causes of insurgency are removed.
"Beyond the military dimension, we are also interested in the stabilisation dimension,’’ he said.

UEFA Stands Behind Platini

Uefa has publicly thrown its solid support behind President Michel Platini, after the FIFA presidential candidate was handed a 90-day suspension by FIFA ethics committee.

Platini has been named as a person of interest by the Swiss authorities in the ongoing investigation launched against Sepp Blatter. Earlier today, Blatter, Valcke and Platini were handed a
provisional 90-day ban, despite thus Uefa is standing with Platini.

“The Uefa Executive Committee saw no need, at this moment in time, to invoke Article 29(5) of the Uefa Statutes, pursuant to which the highest-ranking Vice- President of Uefa may step in to assume the powers and duties of the President in his absence,” Uefa’s statement

Obasanjo Reveals 5 Reasons Why Africa’s Economy Is Not Stable

Former Nigerian president, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has revealed 5 reasons why Africa’s economy is not stable.

Obasanjo who stated this while speaking earlier today, October 8, 2015 at the 5 th Africa governance, leadership and management convention, in Kenya, added that another threat to human security in Africa is the rising incidence of joblessness among African youth.

“Today, Africa’s private sector still contends with limited and sometimes distortionary public sector regulatory framework; a generally restrictive business environment; poor infrastructure; serious skills shortages and mismatches, and difficulties of access to finance by small businesses,” Obasanjo said during his speech.

He also said economies in sub-Saharan Africa are
experiencing rapid growth, averaging 4.6 per cent in GDP growth in 2015 and poised to reach 5.4 by 2016. "And IMF has indicated that future prospects for many African Countries are better with low oil prices. The private sector already generates two-thirds of Africa’s investment, three-quarters of its economic output, and
nine-tenth of its formal and informal employment.

“Africa has also demonstrated considerable resilience during the recession that began in 2008, and Africa is now strongly hopeful about the future. This is possible because previous efforts at reform had engendered more sustainable fiscal positions.”

Obasanjo also suggested a critical factor responsible for Boko Haram insurgency that has plagued the Northeast area of the nation. His remarks comes just hours after Boko Haram suspects reportedly attacked two mosques in Gubio town of Borno state killing scores of people.
