Obama advises Kanye on US presidential bid

US President Barack Obama offered advice Saturday to Kanye West on the rapper’s improbable White House bid — telling him that reality TV might be good training for Washington.
West, who has declared with an unclear degree of seriousness that he will run for president in 2020, was performing at a fundraiser for Obama’s Democratic Party in San Francisco.
Addressing supporters who paid up to $10,000 a ticket, teased that he had campaign advice for West, who is married to reality television star Kim Kardashian.

Obama joked that the background of West — like Obama, an African-American who spent formative years in Chicago — may not be entirely far-fetched for the presidency.
“Do you really think that this country is going to elect a black guy from the South Side of Chicago with a funny name to be president of the United States? That is crazy,” Obama said to applause.
But Obama noted that the title of one of West’s albums may prove to be a political liability.
“Saying you have a ‘Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ — that’s what’s known as ‘off-message’ in politics,” Obama said, referring to West’s chart-topping 2010 album.
Obama did not resist taking a jab at the rival Republican Party, whose leadership in the House of Representatives is in disarray, saying that he heard “Kanye is thinking of running for speaker of the House.”
West, who is known for his brash self-confidence and has likened himself to Michelangelo, declared in August at the MTV Video Music Awards that he plans to run for president in 2020.
The rapper’s aspirations earlier won unlikely praise from real estate mogul Donald Trump, the acerbic front-runner in the Republican presidential race for 2016.
Trump told Rolling Stone magazine last month that he found West to be a “nice guy,” adding: “I hope to run against him someday.”

Cancer: Diezani Begs Nigerians To Pray For Her

The embattled former petroleum minister Diezani Alison-Madueke has appealed to Nigerians to pray for her to survive the surgical operation that she is due to have next week.
Alison-Madueke, who has been reportedly diagnosed with cancer and has been scheduled to undergo a surgical operation next week, says she needs to come out strong to face the allegations against her.

This comes after a series of jaw-dropping revelations about her alleged shady deals. She was first arrested by the UK National Crime Agency over corruption allegations, and she was also allegedly caught with about £13 billion, before reports emerged that she cannot leave London until she answers to all the allegations levelled against her.
From her sick bed she asked Nigerians to pray for her as she undergoes cancer surgery next week as she hopes to come out strong to face the allegations against her.
Vanguard reports that the family lawyer, Oscar Onwudiwe, denied reports of her arrest, insisting that she was undergoing cancer treatment in the UK and “hopes to come out strong to face all the allegations.”
According to The Cable, Onwudike said: “The Madueke family, like most other families, has its own challenges. For instance, Mrs. Diezani Alison-Madueke has been receiving treatment for cancer in the UK which started while she was in office.
“She completed months of chemotherapy just last week and she is scheduled to undergo surgery next week in London.
“The family has been bearing this challenge with prayers and as much grace and fortitude as possible; and would plead with all reasonable Nigerians to pray for her recovery so that she can face these allegations and give account of her stewardship.”
Nigerians have since expressed sarcasm over the plight of the former minister, saying that she has to survive her present ailment and return to face the charges brought against her with a view to proving her innocence or serve the punishment which her sins deserve.

Coke Studio Africa Season 3 Premieres October 11

The third season of Coke Studio Africa is set to premiere on October 11 2015. The non-competitive show will feature artistes from Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Mozambique. It will once again showcase the diversity of African music talent and present opportunities for artistes to work with some of the best local and international music and production talent.

A celebration of African music being its core
element, Coke Studio Africa’s third season will feature live music performances and more than 54 mash up collaborations from 27 popular artistes. For the past three months, the artistes have been working with internationally renowned music producers to create unique music mash
ups—the latest trend in the global music industry and the backbone of the show’s new format.
In a first time partnership with Coke Studio, Kenya Airways will fly all the Coke Studio Africa artistes and producers. Kenya Airways Head of Marketing Africa, Jacquie Muhati, says the airline is excited to support African artistes. “We want the artistes to appreciate the African continent

Akwanga LG Chairman denies rumours of cholera outbreak

Government of Nasarawa State has denied rumours of cholera outbreak in the area.
Koto told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Akwanga that insinuations of the presence of the scourge in the area were unfounded.

" No body lost his or her life as a result of cholera outbreak in Akwanga as alleged in some quarters, there is no cause for anybody to panic.

"Let me tell you, it is not true there is cholera outbreak in this area but it is true that three persons lost their lives last Sunday due to diarrhea and vomiting.

" But it is not cholera as alleged in some quarters.
"When the council heard that three persons lost their lives in Gudi Primary Health Care Clinic in this local government, I went there personally with health experts including officials of World
Health Organisation (WHO).

"The health experts took samples and conducted tests and it was discovered that it is diarrhea and vomiting but not cholera as been speculated.

"I want to call on the people of this area and the state to remain calm and avoid being panicky as my administration is ready at all times to improve on their health and wellbeing, " he said.
Koto however urged the people to improve on their personal hygiene and environmental sanitation to guard against diseases.
He further urged them to avoid incessant dumping of refuse into drainage, gutters, markets areas and other unauthorised places in the interest of their health and that of the nation.

" People should always drink good water and keep their dustbins tightly covered at all times as debris from uncovered dustbins go straight into gutters which could lead to the spread of communicable diseases, " he said.
