Adele blamed for ripping off "Hello" from Tom Waits' "Martha"

As much as Adele is making top spots on all the charts with her smashing it record, 'Hello,' she has left some music fans less than impressed, as she's been accused of copying a song by US singer Tom Waits.

According to fans of Waits, the 27-year-old British star has ripped off lyrics from his 1970s hit 'Martha', with words similar although clearly not exactly the same.

His song has the same theme as hers: a former flame calling a past lover, and in the track he sings:

'Hello, hello there, is this Martha? This is old Tom Frost / And I am calling long distance, don't worry 'bout the cost / 'Cause it's been forty years or more, now Martha please recall / Meet me out for coffee, where we'll talk about it all.'

Adele's Hello begins in a similar way, as she croons: 'Hello, it's me / I was wondering if after all these years you'd like to meet / To go over, everything / They say that time's supposed to heal ya, but I ain't done much healing.'

While the words to each song aren't quite the same, there is a markedly similar theme.

'Martha' featured on the 65-year-old US singing legend's classic album '1973 Closing Time' and, while it has been over 40 years since it was produced, fans have noted the likeness between that and Adele's new single.

Some music lovers took to Twitter to remark on the similarities and these comparisons come after producer Greg Kurstin, who worked closely with Adele on the new track, admitted that she was inspired by Waits.

9. Aichmophobia. What’s a slasher film without a knife-wielding maniac to play on our fear of knives and other sharp objects?
10. Teratophobia. Since the early days of motion pictures, monster movies have been top-grossing hits, playing on people's teratophobia, or fear of monsters.
11. Sanguivoriphobia is the fear of vampires.
12. Taphophobia is the fear of being buried alive; it also applies to the fear of graves or tombs in general.
13. Domatophobia is the fear of houses. Combine it with phasmophobia, and you’ve got a fear of haunted houses.
14. Clinophobia. Clinophobia is the fear of going to bed.
15. Arachnophobia. The fear of spiders, which is a more common phobia (and the title of a popular horror-movie comedy).
16. Chiroptophobia. The fear of bats.
17. Ophidiophobia. This is the fear of snakes (on or off a plane).

Supersonic jet promises travel from London to New York in half an hour

There’s been a lot of news lately about faster air travel with the release of a bevy of plans for supersonic jets.
But designers of a concept aircraft named Skreemr say their aircraft could fly passengers from London to New York in an unbelievable half an hour.
Charles Bombardier and Ray Mattison say scramjet technology would be used for the Skreemr's engines that uses the speed of the aircraft to forcefully compress the incoming air for engine combustion instead of from a tank on board. Scramjets are designed to be smaller, lighter and faster, which will allow the Skreemr to hit speeds exceeding Mach 10 - 10 times the speed of sound --or around 7,673mph, The Globe and Mail reported.
Bombardier, who came up with the idea for the Skreemr's sleek design, envisions a 75-passengers in luxury craft with four wings and two large rockets on the rear. The Skreemr would be launched at very high speed with the help of a magnetic railgun launching system and liquid-oxygen or kerosene rockets would be fired to enable the plane to rapidly climb higher in the sky and reach Mach 4, which is around twice the speed of Concorde.

While Bombardier came up with the idea, Mattison, from Design Eye-Q in Minnesota, created the renderings of the concept.
So far, scramjet technology is being tested in the the U.S. and China for military purposes, so it's unclear if the Skreemr would be used for commercial flights.
Earlier this month, designs for the Concorde 2, based on a patent awarded to Airbus in July appeared, which would travel at 4.5 times the speed of sound and could take people between London and New York in one hour --three times faster than the original Concorde, which made its final flight in 2003.
Meanwhile, a group of Concorde enthusiasts, called Club Concorde, made up of ex-pilots, airline executives and have pledged $250 million to get the legendary jet back in the air by 2019.

Posted to Benue State for NYSC? This Info Might Help You

You have been posted to Benue state for your NYSC and now wondering what Benue looks like, how long it will take to travel to Benue state, how to locate the NYSC camp in Benue etc ???. Though, I did not serve in Benue but I am working presently in Benue, Otukpo precisely. Hence, I have decided to share with you,some info that might help you.


Benue is a state in the MidEast region of Nigeria with Makurdi as the capital. It is not a typical "Hausa" state as most people think. Tiv, Idoma, and Igede are spoken predominantly. Nevertheless, you will still find traces of Igbos and Yorubas in the state. David Mark (current Senate President), Tuface and TerryG (Popular Nigerian Musicians) are all from Benue State.

The state is referred to as the "Food Basket of the Nation" because it's a rich agricultural region. Hence, if you are the type that likes food alot, don't worry, you can eat the way you like without having to drain your allowee account..lol. Food is cheap and there are plenty fruits!

Wurukum round-about, Makurdi, Benue state

If you are posted to Makurdi and its environs, be ready to cope with a hot weather during the dry season. The south-eastern part of the state adjoining the Obudu-Cameroun mountain range, however, has a cooler climate similar to that of the Jos Plateau.

Where is Benue NYSC Orientation Camp Located?

The NYSC orientation camp in Benue state is located at Wanunne, Tarka Local Government Area, Kilometer 35 Makurdi Gboko Road, Benue State. .

Makurdi to Wannune(NYSC camp) is about 40 minutes.

Lagos to Benue state by road is about 10 - 11 hours if you do not encounter any delay on the road. You can get direct bus to Makurdi or Gboko from Iddo Park, Oyingbo (around Yaba), Lagos. Transport fare as at the time of publishing this is around N5,000. It's better you book ahead a day before you travel. If not, you should try and get to the park as early as possible. First Buses leave Lagos around 7-8 am.  If you live along Badagry express road, i.e from Mile 2 down to Badagry and think you can't get to iddo Park that early, you can get Pleasure Travels just opposite Army Barracks.

If you are coming from the East, I am not sure if you can get a direct bus to Makurdi but you can ask around. I know "Peace Transport" is very popular in the East. You can go to their park to find out. They also have a park at "Obollo Affor". Hence, if they are not coming directly to Benue, you can enter a "Peace" bus coming to Obollo. From Obollo, you will get a direct bus to Otukpo (Not OtukpA). From Otukpo, you can easily get to Makurdi and from there, locating the camp is easy. Another alternative from East, is through 9th mile from where you'll easily get Otukpo or if you're lucky, a direct bus going to Makurdi.

For those who can't make it to Wanunne, you can sleep in any of the numerous hotels and guest houses in Makurdi,Otukpo etc. then proceed to Wannune the next morning. For those that can't go to a hotel,just go to the NCCF family house and pass the night. You will be welcomed there and been in the midst of others will even help you with what to expect in NYSC camp and outside. When the bus from Lagos or wherever stops you at Wurukum Park in Makurdi, just take a bike from there to NCCF Family house at Ankpa Quaters, beside the state INEC office. The fare should not be more than 100naira.

Where Is Benue State NYSC Secretariat?

 

The State secretariat is located at Railway Bye-pass, Makurdi and the other secretariats can be found at the different local government offices in the state.  You will be going to the nearest NYSC secretariat for your CDs.
