An economist, Austin Nweze, has criticised the recent decision of the Federal Government of Nigeria on the monetary policy of the nation.
This follows the recent decision of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to discontinue its sales of foreign exchange to the Bureau de Change operators and allowing banks to accept foreign currency cash deposits from their customers.
Mr Nweze said the inconsistency of the monetary policy had unsettled people and businesses.
“Companies are waiting, hoping that the CBN will reverse itself. Some companies I know have left the country because of this kind of policy,” he said.
The economist urged policy makers to make policies that will forecast future complications from the start.
“They should be far thinking to know the implication from the beginning; to know the implication to the economy, to the people before you engage yourself in this kind of policy.”
Mr Nweze, however, believes that the Central Bank Governor, Godwin Emefiele, wants to develop the manufacturing sector, but expresses worries that the capacity to take risk is not there.
“His comments shows that he wants the manufacturing sector to thrive in this country but doesn’t want to take a risk or maybe he doesn’t have the peril to take that kind of risk.”
The economist suggested that the CBN should meet with other stakeholders to deliberate on the type of economy on ground and what they want to achieve.
He also criticised the method being used in the anti-corruption fight, saying the government should focus on other things.
“All we see is expose. The institutions should be allowed to fight this thing and the government should focus on other things,” Nweze said.
He added that ‘all problem is not really corruption, all corruption lies in education’.

Senate Investigates ‘Missing 2016 Budget’ Claim
The Senate Committee on Ethics and Privileges has begun investigation of claims that the 2016 budget is missing from the chamber.
This was disclosed to reporters by the Chairman of the committee, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, after Wednesday’s legislative proceedings in the National Assembly in Abuja, Nigeria’s capital.
While addressing reporters, the Senate Majority Leader, Senator Ali Ndume, also described as ‘untrue’, the claim that the budget was missing.
A federal lawmaker, Senator Enyinaya Abaribe, earlier at plenary, raised a point of order demanding that the Senate should look into media reports on the whereabouts of the 2016 budget.
After his observation, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki, gave the assurance that the budget would be distributed to the lawmakers at the upper chamber on Thursday ahead of the debate on the financial plan on Tuesday, January 19.
While confusion edges the whereabouts of the 2016 budget in the Senate, the clerk of the lower chamber displayed the budget on the floor.
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Honourable Yakubu Dogara, also maintained that the budget was not removed from the House.
On Tuesday, the Chairman House of Representatives Committee on Appropriations, Honourable Abdulmumin Jibrin, said that there was no truth to insinuations that the 2016 budget document is missing.
He said that the claims may have been inspired by the initial insufficiency of the copies of the budget available to all the lawmakers.
“As far as I am concerned, that story does not hold water. We were expecting copies to be printed and sent to the National Assembly but there was a bit of delay.
“As at yesterday, I can confirm to you that the Appropriation Committee in the House received a lot of copies of the budget. By the time the Clerk counted it today, it was not sufficient to go round members.
“I spoke with the Minister of Planning earlier today [Tuesday] and he assured me that before the end of today he will deliver the remaining copies.
“For the soft copy I also reminded him and he sent it to me and I handed it over to the House,” he explained.
Honourable Jibrin said the rumour of missing budget may have been triggered by the delay in the production of more copies of the budget.
“You should realise that we have a new government in place and I think that there is little issue of communication gap and they are trying to get themselves settled. We should be able to excuse them and support the President wherever there is a bit of limitation from his own side,” he told Channels Television’s correspondent, Charles Eruka.
The 2016 national financial plan was presented before a joint session of the National Assembly on Tuesday, December 22, 2015 by President Muhammadu Buhari.
Becoming the first Nigerian President to personally carry out this task in recent years, Buhari explained that the 6.07 trillion Naira budget would focus on addressing youth unemployment and cater for the vulnerable as well as reiterated that Nigeria remains committed to diversification to build and reflate the economy.
Newcastle 3-3 Man Utd: Analysis,Pictures and EPL Round-up
Manchester United were lucky not to be beaten by Newcastle on Tuesday night as goals from Wayne Rooney and Jesse Lingard were not enough to give Britain's biggest club a much desired three points. Louis Van Gaal admitted pre-match that even he got bored watching his side. So were there stifled yawns all round at St James' Park? Not a bit of it.
The neutrals would say this is the most thrilling and entertaining match Manchester United have played this season despite playing a draw because of it's swashbuckling end to end nature of football that saw both keepers put in the shift most of the time.
United had won their last two matches against Newcastle and at half time it seemed to be heading that way before goals from Newcastle players Wijnaldum,Mitrovic and Dummet sent Newcastle's home ground into splinters.
Wayne Rooney scored the first goal via a well deserved penalty before youngster Jesse Lingard doubled the scoreline in the 38th minute but goals from Wijnaldum and Aleksandr Mitrovic in the next 40 minutes ensured that the last twenty minutes was action packed and filled with frantic moments.
Wayne Rooney, much often criticized this season as a spent force scored a spectacular goal in the 79th minute but with a minute to go homegrown lad Dummet gave the travelling Man Utd fans something to ponder about. Will the Louis van Gaal experiment still continue?
Other EPL Results
-Bournemouth 1-3 West Ham. Eddie Howe's men were shocked at home by West Ham who demolished Bournemouth in this four goal thriller.
-Aston Villa 1-0 Crystal Palace. Aston Villa boosted their survival hopes with a well fought and dogged performance that ensured they picked up all three points against a high flying Crystal Palace.
Presidency reacts to missing budget, says Nigerians should hold N/Assembly responsible
Senior Special Assistant to President Buhari on Media and Publicity, Shehu Garba has asked Nigerians to direct all their questions about the missing soft and hard copies of the 2016 budget to the National Assembly. According to Garba, nobody can withdraw the budget from the National Assembly except President Buhari.
Senator Ali Ndume had announced to his colleagues during plenary today that the budget was missing.
"Nobody, except the president, can withdraw the budget. As far as we know, he (the president) has not done that. The copies in their hundreds have been delivered to both chambers of the National Assembly. By tradition, once the budget is submitted, it ceases to be our property. Enquiries as to where it is should be directed to the appropriate quarters", Shehu said.

Obama gives last State of the Union address
Barack Obama gives his final State of the Union address on Tuesday, perhaps the last opportunity of his presidency to sway a national audience and frame the 2016 election.
The White House is promising an unorthodox speech, with Obama eschewing the traditional checklist of legislative priorities.
Instead, aides said that America’s first black president will use a “singular moment” to define his place in the history books and stoke optimism about the future.
The speech, under construction since the autumn, will challenge Americans to address big unfinished business, from race to gun violence to drug abuse.
Not for the first time during Obama’s seven years in the White House, he will lean heavily on his dazzling rhetorical skills to push forward his agenda.
Obama is unlikely to dwell on the 2016 election race for too long, but in embracing optimism, the White House hopes to draw a sharp contrast with Republicans.
Around 30 million viewers are expected to watch live, a nationwide audience that may only be matched in political terms during the Democratic nominating convention later this year.
Obama aides are trying to leverage the moment for all its worth, amplifying his message across social and digital media.
Amazon is planning to air the speech on demand, the White House has joined Snapchat for the occasion and will use Genius — a program that started life as a font for rap lyrics — to annotate Obama’s remarks.
Afterwards, Obama will travel to Nebraska and Louisiana to sell his message and be interviewed by three YouTube celebrities.
– High risk, high reward –
It is a high-risk strategy for Obama, who with just a year left in office could look cripplingly out of touch if he misjudges the nation’s mood.
Amid poisoned politics, terror threats and middle-class malaise, some 67 percent of Americans believe the country is going in the wrong direction, according to a recent Rasmussen poll.
While unemployment rates are low, the economy is growing and the tumult of the financial crisis has passed, wage growth is lackluster and the gap between rich and poor is cavernous.
“Workers don’t experience statistics, they feel market forces,” wrote former George W. Bush aide Matt McDonald in a recent paper for Hamilton Place Strategies, a consultancy.
White House spokesman Josh Earnest acknowledged economic and security challenges, but said the willingness of Republicans “to exploit people’s fears and insecurities and anxieties has infected the political debate.”
“The president’s reaction to that though is that he has never been more confident about our ability to confront successfully those challenges.”
Obama has long thought of his presidency in such historic terms. But the broad sweep of his speech is also born of necessity.
He faces a hostile Republican Congress united only in its disdain for him and his agenda.
Republican criticism is likely to focus on Obama’s handling of foreign policy, in particular the rise of the Islamic State group in Syria and Iraq.
“US engagement has for too long been defined by whether troops are deployed,” said one senior White House official describing Obama’s intention to defend his foreign policy.
The speech begins at 0200 GMT on Wednesday.
