Pope Francis: It's never too late for conversion

God's patience towards sinners is without limit, yet the time for conversion is now, Pope Francis said during his Sunday Angelus address at the Vatican.

“It is never too late to convert, but it is urgent, it is now! Let us begin today,” said the Pope Feb. 28 to the crowds in St. Peter's Square.

Delivering his remarks before leading those present in the Marian prayer, the Pope spoke on Jesus' “invincible patience,” explaining how God's “unyielding concern for sinners” should provoke impatience in ourselves.

“Have you thought of God's patience? Have you even thought of his unyielding concern for sinners, how this should provoke impatience against ourselves?”

“It is never to late to convert! Never! Up until the last moment: The patience of God who waits for us.”
Pope Francis recounted the story from St. Therese of Lisieux, who prayed for the conversion of a criminal who had been condemned to death, and had refused interventions from the priest. It was not until his final moment that he took the Crucifix held by the priest and kissed it.

“The patience of God! And he does the same with us, with all of us!” the Pope said. “And this is his mercy.”

Reflecting on the day's readings, Pope Francis remarked how everyday newspapers report on violence and catastrophes. He tied this to the Gospel reading which refers to two tragic events of the time: the Romans sacking the temple, and the collapse of the Siloam tower in Jerusalem which killed eighteen people.

The Pope says Jesus knows his listeners are “superstitious” in interpreting such events as punishment for sins.

“Jesus definitively refutes this point of view, because God does not permit tragedies to punish sins,” he said, but “asserts that those poor victims were no worse than others.”

Rather, Jesus uses these examples as warnings that sinners will perish as these victims did if they do not repent, the Pope added, citing the Gospel.

Even today, there is the temptation to blame disasters on the victims, “or even on God himself,” the pontiff said.

However, in order to take the path of the Gospel, Jesus “calls us to change our heart, to radically make an about turn in our life, abandoning our compromises with evil,” the Pope said, citing hypocrisy as an example. “I think we all have in us a little bit of hypocrisy,” he said in an off-the-cuff remark.

Stressing the need for conversion, the Pope warned against the temptation toward self-justification: “From what do we need to convert? Are we not all good people, believers, even sufficiently practicing?”

Despite being like the fig tree which fails to produce fruit, Jesus “with limitless patience” delays killing the tree for another year, Pope Francis observed.

He reflected on the Jubilee Year of Mercy as a year of grace, the period in the Church and our lives before Christ's “glorious return,” and which is “punctuated by a certain number of Lents which offer us opportunities for repentance and salvation.”

The Jubilee of Mercy is an Extraordinary Holy Year which officially commenced December 8 – the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception – with the opening of the Holy Door in St. Peter's Basilica. It will close Nov. 20, 2016 with the Solemnity of Christ the King.

After the recitation of the Angelus, Pope Francis reflected on the ongoing crisis of refugees fleeing from “war and other inhumane situations.”

He especially acknowledged Greece and other countries “on the front line” for their work in offering “generous assistance” to those crossing their borders, and called on the international community for a “unanimous response” in helping distribute the weight of the crisis.

“For this reason, we need to firmly and unreservedly focus on negotiations,” he said.

The pontiff went on to welcome “with hope” the current ceasefire in Syria involving government and rebel forces, which has entered its second day.

“I invite all to pray so that this window of opportunity can give relief to the suffering people, encouraging the necessary humanitarian aid, and open the way to dialogue and much desired peace,” he said.

Pope Francis went on to extend his “closeness” to the people of Fiji, where tropical cyclone Winston killed more than 40 people and left tens of thousands more homeless.

“I pray for the victims and for those engaged with the relief efforts.”

Nigerians Prefer Kpangolo Music To Rhythm And Blues – DJ Xclusive

Talented producer, DJ Xclusive, has revealed the reason why he does not make R n B beats.

According to the EME act, Nigerians love the danceable kind of songs thus, the rhythm and blues kind of songs will not sell in the country.

While speaking with Naija
What Nigerians want is kpangolo music and that’s what I make. I make my beats to suit people’s demands because I want to sell.

I’m a producer of the people and I give people what they want; and for now, as you can see, fast beat is the trend. Everybody wants to shakebodi and dance to fast beats and that’s what I produce.

DJ Xclusive also talked about his decision to release an album seeing that he is known primarily as a DJ.
He added that:

As you can see, every producer isn’t sitting on producing alone. We’re all trying to merge singing with. It’s not just in a bid to make more money but to expand our versatility. You can say I took it to the head with the album but that’s just to show you that producers can also do good music.
DJ Xclusive, released a 21 track

Ambode vows to rescue abducted Secondary school girls

Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode says his government will spare no effort to ensure the safe return of the three female students of Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School in Ikorodu area of the state, who were kidnapped by a group of armed gang on Monday evening February 29th.

Ambode in a statement signed by the Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Steve Ayorinde and released today March 2nd, condemned the unfortunate incident, just as he assured that the Police and other security operatives have swung into action, with useful leads and with an unwavering determination to track down the perpetrators of the act and ensure the safe return of the girls.

“We have not been silent on this unfortunate development. In a delicate security matter of this nature, where young innocent people are involved and management of information demands utmost circumspect, we were convinced that swift and coordinated reaction, guided by intelligence reports on the part of the Police, was a better and more sensitive approach to take, rather than a sensational, panic-stricken reaction”he said. He said the State Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni as well as the Assistant Inspector General of Police for the Lagos/Ogun Command were fully on ground at the scene and vicinity of the incident leading the entire coordinated effort involving every military apparatus. “We believe in the capacity of the Police to lead this rescue mission. I have had ceaseless briefing with them since the incident happened and God helping us, we shall spare no effort in securing the safe release of the girls and continue to secure the school and indeed every part of Lagos”. Governor Ambode said the incident may not be unconnected with his recent visit to some parts of Ikorodu where he read the riot act to vandals and criminal gangs on the resolve of the state government to take the battle to their hideouts in a spirited effort to secure the pipelines. “We believe this is a case of evil fighting back. But Lagos will neither succumb to threats of lawlessness nor bow to terror. Our resolve is very clear; we will assist the Police and other security agencies in dealing decisively with this one unfortunate case and prevent future reoccurrence. We will deploy the resources at our disposal to safeguard every life and property within our care,” he said.

Governor Ambode also recalled a similar incident in Arepo area of Ogun State, where a senior staff of a leading telecommunications agency was kidnapped three days ago, however saying that he has gotten assurance from both the Ogun State Police and Lagos Police Commands on their collaborative efforts to tame the menace of kidnapping and ensure return of order and safety. He also commended the gallantry of the students of the school who put up a courageous resistance to prevent the abduction of their mates, just as he praised the mature and measured response of the school management in the wake of the incident. “The state government is with you in bringing this unfortunate episode to a quick resolution. I wish to appeal for calm and support of every Lagosian. I urge them to be vigilant and helpful to the security operatives in this onerous task to rid the state of every form of criminality, cultism and terrorism,” he said.

Minister and Reps face-off over sacked 12 VCs

The Minister of Education, Adamu Adamu and members of the House of Representatives Committee on Tertiary Education on Tuesday, March 1, clashed over the sacking of five of the 12 university vice-chancellors by the federal government.

According to The Punch, the minister and lawmakers exchanged words over the legality of the sacking of the VCs.

The VCs being contested include the federal universities of Eyo-Ekiti, Binin Kebbi, Gusau, Gashua and the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN)

Adamu told the lawmakers that the former VCs were sacked because there was no law backing their appointments in the first place by former President Goodluck Jonathan.
For Prof. Vincent Tenebe, the former NOUN VC, Adamu said that the governing council of the university illegally extended his tenure.

Lawmakers who were enraged by his comments, argued that Buhari, as the visitor to the universities, could only sack VCs on the recommendation of the governing councils in liaison with the Senate.

Other members of the committee, Hon. Sam Onuigbo (Abia, PDP),Hon Ezenwa Onyebuchi (Imo,PDP),Hon Mojeed Alabi (Osun, APC) were of the opinion that the ministry should have waited for the tenure of the affected VCs to expire before their removal, The Nation reports.

A member of the committee, Prof. Mojeed Alabi, described the removal of the VCs as an act of “impunity.”
Timothy Golu, in reaction to Adamu’s claim that four of the universities were not properly established, another member of the committee, said the minister should have advised the president to close them down instead.

The lawmakers who were not satisfied with the minister’s responses, asked Adamu to re-appear before the ommittee on Tuesday, March 8th, 2016 with “facts and more convincing reasons for the sack.”

Meanwhile, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has condemned the recent removal of 12 vice-chancellors of federal universities by the federal government describing it a violation of the law.
