Man pirating Nollywood movie nabbed in Alaba

The fight against copyright infringement in Nigeria yielded result on Friday, after men of the Nigeria Police, Ojo, Lagos, arrested a notorious pirate in Alaba International market, known as a haven for movie pirates.

The culprit was arrested while pirating the epic movie, “Invasion 1897” produced by popular Nollywood director, Lancelot Imasuen.

According to Imasuen, the man has since been handed over to the officials of Nigerian Copyright Commission,NCC, for proper investigation and possible prosecution.

The movie, based on the invasion of the Benin Kingdom by the British Empire in 1897 and looting the priceless ancient artifacts of the Benin kingdom, including the famous commemorative head and pendant of ivory mask representing Queen Idia (from court of Benin, 16th century), was supposed to have been released on DVD in October, last year, but had to be postponed because of the menace of piracy.

The distributor of the film, Igwe Gab Okoye, had alerted the Ojo police station following the activities of the culprit who was said to have printed millions of copies of the movie jackets before he was arrested.

RIP Nokia! Nokia CEO Cries Uncontrollably as Microsoft Acquires Nokia

Its so painful, and as I’m typing this, my handkerchief is drenched with tears because I was once a lover of Nokia phone. My first ever Nokia phone was Nokia 3310. It fell inside hot pepper soup and it was still ringing… long lasting battery life but today Nokia is now history.

During the press conference to announce NOKIA being acquired by Microsoft, Nokia CEO, Stephen Elop ended his speech saying, “we didn’t do anything wrong, but somehow, we lost”. Upon saying that, all his management team, himself included, teared sadly.

Nokia has been a respectable company. They didn’t do anything wrong in their business, however, the world changed too fast. Their opponents were too powerful.

They missed out on learning, they missed out on changing, and thus they lost the opportunity at hand to make it big. Not only did they miss the opportunity to earn big money, they lost their chance of survival.
The message of this story is, if you don’t change, you shall be removed from the competition.

Microsoft announced the purchase of Nokia’s phone assets in September 2013 — just weeks after Steve Ballmer said he would step down — and finalized the deal in April 2014.
The total purchase price ended up as approximately $7.9 billion, according to an April 2015 filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC).

Blackberry is about facing thesame situation and I wonder how their tears will be considering the facts that WhatsApp has already given them the deadliest blow to end WhatsApp on All Blackberry phones by 2016 ending.

It’s not wrong if you don’t want to learn new things. However, if your thoughts and mindset cannot catch up with time, you will be eliminated. Nokia is now history... Who is next?

Rest in Peace! Nokia.

#StyleGuide: Five Things Stylish People Do

Style is specific to each person and today we show you ways to spot a stylish person. To be stylish, one doesn’t need to follow trends. Stylish people create their own trends as well as try out the biggest trends. Some shop regularly and some just know how to to mix items in their wardrobe effectively. They are interested in every aspect of beauty and take it very seriously. Not everyone is born stylish, some just grow into style by finding what works for them.

Here are five things stylish people do that makes them stand out from the rest.

They are experimental, pulling off different bold looks
A stylish woman doesn’t stick to one look, she might have a go to look or signature beauty look, but she is constantly trying new things. Taking fashion risks on the part of both designer and fashionistas is what sets trends. A really stylish person is able to go from heels to flats and still look glamorous while at it.

They have a signature Beauty look and Hairstyle
We have some stylish Nigerian socialites and celebrities who have proven themselves over and over again. For beauty looks Mo’cheddah goes with the natural blend and we must say it suits her graciously. Zainab Balogun is someone else who wears the natural look and sticks to it. Toke Makinwa on the other hand, goes with the heavy contour and lashes and it suits her perfectly. Whether professionally or self-done, her makeup is always fab.

Stylish people try almost every hair color even though they also have their signature styles.

Marilyn Monroe went with the blonde curls for most of her life. MTV presenter/VJ Stephanie Coker is usually spotting braids; and with Lola Oj, she is usually spotted with various hair styles even though her signature style is a low cropped hair cut.

They stay up to date with trends
Most stylish people go for fashion shows and watch the trends and start trends of their own. They spend on fashion items. If it’s makeup, they are breaking the bank. They also splurge on shoes, bags or accessories.

They pay great attention to themselves.
I am yet to spot any stylish person with bad skin. They spend forever trying to get a glow and look beautiful, the best glow you can have is great skin. With great skin the world is yours, they are also quick to share beauty secrets so you too can have the flawless glow of any fashionista.

John Terry Reveals Chelsea’s Weird Pre-Game Rite

Footballers and sportsmen alike are known for their weird pregame rituals, but Chelsea’s own might just take the cake.

John Terry, who has won four EPL trophies, five FA cups, one UCL and one UEL, has revealed that before a match, the players all use one urinal in the dressing room.

The captain also stated the ritual has prevented them from coming out early for matches.

“I am very superstitious and, for me, if we win a game then I add it on to my next superstition,” Terry told The Sun.

“Last season, as you can imagine, it built up to quite a lot. Me and Frank started it a long time ago; in the Chelsea dressing room we have three urinals and me and Lamps started weeing in one.

“We won the game and, for me, that was it, the next week there was a queue of me, Frank and Ash.
“The next week there were four of us and the week after there were five.

“And even now, up until today, you have Cesar Azpilicueta and Cesc Fabregas, we are all there in one big queue.

“A few months ago the club secretary said to me: ‘we have had a few calls from the FA complaining because we have been going out late’ and I didn’t have the heart to tell him it was because we were all waiting to go for a wee.”

I expect little from new FIFA president Infantino - Odegbami

Former Green Eagles striker Segun Odegbami says does not expect so much from the new FIFA President, Gianni Infantino.

Odegbami tried to run for the FIFA presidency but backed out due to lack of support and he has not said Infantino might not have so much to do because there are no problems in football.

Infantino was the former general secretary of UEFA before winning the FIFA presidency elections in late February.

Despite the spate of corruption cases affecting FIFA, Odegbami believes Infantino has less work to do.

He told the Punch: “I have not met him, but I have read what he said in his speech and I think they are accommodating enough for anybody expecting reforms.

“What I think I am expecting is that he will perform to the level of everything he has said in his speech and if he does that, it is very good for the game.

“I have little expectation because there is little wrong about the game; nothing has been wrong with the quality of world football.

“You can notice that while the whole corruption mess was going on, it did not disturb the flow of the game. There are no problems in football.”
Odegbami also said the problem with FIFA lies with its administration and not the game of football itself.

Gianni Infantino after winning the FIFA presidency elections on Friday

“Nobody will come into FIFA and make drastic changes or reforms in the game because the game is okay.
“The problem is the administration, finances, the authenticity of process and fraud; these are the things that scandalise the body and not the game.

“The new president has been with Sepp Blatter before and fortunately survived him, which is a lesson enough for Infantino to do things correctly this time around.

“I think he will not mess up, but rather try to justify the confidence that 270 countries around the world have in making him the president,’’ he said.

Odegbami, was a member of the team that won the 1980 Africa Cup of Nations. He wore 46 caps for Nigeria between 1976 and 1982.

Odegbami, who also captained Nigeria to 1980 Olympics in Moscow, is the second African to make attempt at FIFA presidency after Liberia’s Musa Bility.

Panic as militiamen, ex-militants invade Lagos

President Buhari did not renew the pipeline protection contracts awarded to militia groups by the Jonathan administration which is partly blamed for the militant invasion of Lagos.

Militiamen as well as ex-militants have invaded Lagos and are blamed for the rise in cases of kidnappings, robberies and other criminal activities in the state, according to intelligence reports from the police.
Sources in the police and the Department of State Services (DSS) told the Punch that there are strong indications that some of the ex-militants are responsible for the recent upsurge of crime rate in the state after they lost their source of livelihood when President.
Muhammadu Buhari cancelled their pipeline protection contracts.
The invasion by the ex-militants in Lagos is posing challenges to the police and other security agencies who are finding it difficult to control the proliferation of firearms in the possession of the renegade militiamen who have now turned to kidnapping and robberies as an alternative to make easy money.
“Since abduction seems to be profitable and less risky, jobless ex-militants and militia group members seem to have found a lucrative business in the kidnapping of hapless citizens, ” a senior DSS official said.
Under the administration of Goodluck Jonathan, six companies were awarded contracts to guard pipelines belonging to the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC).
The pipeline security and surveillance contract, said to have been worth N9.3bn, was carried out between March 15 and June 15, 2015.
Some of the companies awarded the pipeline surveillance contract were owned by former Niger Delta militants, self-determination groups and prominent Nigerians including Government Tompolo Ekpumopolo, Mujaheedin Asari-Dokubo, Ateke Toms, Bipobiri Ajube and Ebikabowei Victor Ben (Boyloaf).
Others are the company of the founder of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC) Fredrick Fasehun and OPC national co-ordinator, Gani Adams.
However, President Buhari did not renew the pipeline protection contracts awarded to OPC and other militia groups by the Jonathan administration.
Since then, Lagos state has witnessed series of robbery attacks between last year and now. There have also been cases of kidnapping, the latest being the abduction of three schoolgirls from the Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary, Ikorodu, on Monday, February 29.
Meanwhile, t he abductors of the three female students from the Babington Macualay Junior Seminary (BMJS), Ikorodu Lagos have reportedly reduced the ransom from 100 million to 20 million, This Day reports.
This is just as the police in Lagos have deployed several sniffer dogs in search of the culprits and beefed up security in schools in Ikorodu owing to the unsuccessful attack on Owutu Government College by the same gang.
The command has also deployed a newly acquired forensic laboratory vehicle to the scene to help analyse all clues recovered from the school.
Likewise, the House of Representatives has mandated the inspector general of the police, Solomon Arase to intensify efforts towards the rescue of the three girls abducted from Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School in Ikorodu, Lagos state.
The resolution by the House was sequel to a motion on matters of urgent public importance entitled “Urgent need to seek the release of abducted female students of Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School in Ikorodu” sponsored by Babjimi Benson on Wednesday, March 2.
