Afcon: Siasia axes three players from camp

Coach Samson Siasia has barred defender Segun Oduduwa and midfielders Stanley Dimgba and Usman Mohammed from showing up at the Bolton White Apartments camp of the Super Eagles, after they reported late to the camp of the U-23 team without an earlier permission.

“We cannot have those three in camp anymore,” Siasia started . This is very serious business, and only serious –minded persons can be involved. They reported late to the camp of the U-23 team, so they cannot be tolerated in the camp of the senior team.

“I have said it over the past few days that the right mentality would count big among the traits we are looking for in the players to feature against Egypt.”

Oduduwa and Mohammed were in the U-23 squad that won the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Senegal in December 2015, while Dimgba has trained with the team and the Eagles B previously.

The Super Eagles’ new boss is known to be a disciplinarian. He threw out star midfielder Kingsley Sokari and talented forward Daniel Etor from his squad to the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations after the duo opted to play for their club, Enyimba FC, in a final NPFL season game in Lagos in November 2015, against his instructions.

The exclusion of the trio means only 40 players are now in contention for shirts in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations double-header against Egypt, with 19 home boys to train for two weeks before the arrival of 21 overseas-based players on the week of the first game in Kaduna.

The young girl was allegedly impregnated by her 60-year-old caregiver who took care of her since childhood. According to doctors, Chelagat gave birth to her baby weighing 2.8kg at Kericho District Hospital in Kenya though a cesarean section.

The social media sphere was agog when the picture of her holding the baby in her arms started flying around.

Wow! What a world.

God did not create us to remain crushed by sin, Pope says

Leading his annual penitential service on Friday, Pope Francis told attendees to stand tall and be open to forgiveness, and not to let themselves remain under the heavy burden of sin.

“Let us cast off...all that prevents us from racing towards him, unafraid of leaving behind those things which make us feel safe and to which we are attached,” the Pope said March 4.
He told attendees not to “remain sedentary, but let us get up and find our spiritual worth again, our dignity as loved sons and daughters who stand before the Lord so that we can be seen by him, forgiven and recreated.”

Pointing to the word “recreated,” Francis said it arrives to the heart of each person present, because it’s a reminder of what God said when he created man: “Rise! God has created us to stand. Arise.”
The Pope’s homily was part of the annual “24 Hours for the Lord” event, which takes place the fourth Friday and Saturday of Lent inside St. Peter’s Basilica.

A worldwide initiative led by Pope Francis, the event points to confession as a primary way to experience God's merciful embrace. It was launched in 2014 under the auspices of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization.

Cardinals, bishops, priests and religious are invited by the Vatican to participate in the event by gathering around the Altar of the Confession inside the basilica.

As part of the penitential service, Pope Francis went to confession himself before administering the sacrament himself to a number of individuals.

Following the service in the Vatican, Churches throughout Rome will remain open for 24 hours to give pilgrims the opportunity to go to Confession and take part in Eucharistic Adoration.

In his homily, the Pope focused on the Gospel passage from Mark Chapter 10, in which a blind man named Bartimaeus hears that Jesus is passing by and calls out to him. As those around try to silence him, Bartimaeus cries out even louder.

Jesus hears him, stops and asks his disciples to bring Bartimaeus to him. When Bartimaeus arrives and asks to receive his sight, Jesus heals him immediately.

Pope Francis said the passage “has great symbolic value for our lives,” since each person finds themselves in the place of Bartimaeus.

“His blindness led him to poverty and to living on the outskirts of the city, dependent on others for everything he needed,” the pontiff said, explaining that sin has the same effect: “it impoverishes and isolates us.”

The blindness of sin leads us little by little to concentrate on what is superficial and to be indifferent to others, he said, noting that there are many temptations which have the power “to cloud the heart’s vision and to make it myopic!”

The Pope admitted that it is easy to be misguided, but cautioned that when we give into the temptation of only looking at ourselves, “we become blind, lifeless and self-centered, devoid of joy and true freedom.”

Jesus, however, passes by us and stops to listen in the same way that he did in the Gospel, the Pope said, explaining that like Bartimaeus, “our hearts race, because we realize that the Light is gazing upon us...which invites us to come out of our dark blindness.”

The closeness of Jesus makes us realize that something is missing when we are far away from him, Pope Francis said, adding that it is the presence of God which makes us feel the need for salvation and which “begins the healing of our heart.”

However, Francis lamented that there are always people like those in the Gospel who don’t want to stop when they see someone else suffering. These people, he said, prefer “to silence and rebuke the person in need who is only a nuisance.”

Francis said that by brushing these people off, we not only keep ourselves far from the Lord, but others as well. He prayed that everyone would realize that “we are all begging for God’s love, and not allow ourselves to miss the Lord as he passes by.”

The Pope then turned to role of pastors in the confessional, saying they are called in a special way “to hear the cry, perhaps hidden, of all those who wish to encounter the Lord.”

He encouraged them to re-examine behaviors that can get in the way of helping others draw close to Jesus, and to ask themselves if they are putting schedules, programs and regulations ahead of the desire for forgiveness.

Touching on the topic of God’s tenderness, the Pope said pastors must “certainly not water down the demands of the Gospel,” but at the same time they can’t risk “frustrating the desire of the sinner to be reconciled with the Father,” he said.

“We have been sent to inspire courage, to support and to lead others to Jesus,” he said, adding that their ministry “is one of accompaniment, so that the encounter with the Lord may be personal and intimate” and without fear.

Pope Francis concluded by noting how at the end of the Gospel, Bartimaeus immediately received his sight after speaking with Jesus, and then followed him.

When we draw near to Jesus like Bartimaeus did, “we too see once more the light which enables us to look to the future with confidence,” and which gives us the strength and courage to move forward, he said.

Francis encouraged attendees to follow Jesus “as faithful disciples,” so that they help everyone they meet to have the same experience of joy in receiving God’s his merciful love.
After “the embrace of the Father, the forgiveness of the Father,” in confession, the Pope told attendees to “celebrate in our hearts, because he is celebrating.”

‘How we kidnapped the 3 school girls,’ Suspects

The kidnappers of three abducted schoolgirls of Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary in Ikorodu, Lagos, have revealed how they carried out the opearation.

You will recall that the girls were abducted at gun point from their school On February 29, 2016.

One of the suspects, Mr. Arigidi, who spoke to newsmen, said “We went to Maya bridge to enter canoe and went to the school around 8 p.m.

“After we gained entrance into the school, we took away three girls and we took them to our hideout. But along the line, we had disagreement between ourselves and I was actually the one that started it. I told other members of the gang that what we have done is not good and that I don’t like it.

“I know that security in Lagos State is now tight and I was telling others that there was no way we would get away with this kind of job considering the level of security in the state.”

Adding that “Three days after I ran away, operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) then arrested me somewhere in Majidun and that was how I told them how we planned the attack.”

Agiri also said “One thing I will like to say is that if not for the fact that I was arrested, they would not have seen the girls because I was the one that revealed everything to the police.”
Reports say the girls have since regained their freedom.

DSP faces dismissal over marked N24K bribe in Cross Rivers

According to a report by Punch Newspaper, unknown to DSP Ekong, an Assistant Inspector General prepared the marked notes to nab the 'corrupt officers' in the force.
It was reported that DSP Ekong and his team had unlawfully arrested and detained a certain.

Ottobong Inyang and demanded N250, 000 as bribe for his bail.
The report further revealed that Inyang was arrested on February 19, 2016 for alleged armed robbery and car theft and was detained at the state Police Command headquarters in Calabar but was released on February 21, 2016 after paying N50, 000 to Ekong.

It was gathered that Inyang was arrested for alleged armed robbery and car theft shortly after he bought a Volkswagen Passat from a car shop along IBB Way by Eta-Agbor roundabout in Calabar.

However, the car dealer wasn't detained, thus, Inyang paid a sum of N50, 000 before he secured his freedom on February 21, 2016 but was asked to bring the balance by February 22 or he would be rearrested.

On regaining his freedom, Inyang immediately got a legal team that approached AIG Adisa Bolanta, to formally lay the complaints.
AIG Bolanta then marked N24, 000 himself and gave it as part of the balance to be handed to Ekong and this led to the arrest of Ekong and his team.

The AIG, it was reliably gathered, had ordered an orderly room trial and dismissal of the affected policemen if found guilty.

President Buhari’s Interview with Al Jazeera is a MUST WATCH! Talks ForEx for Nigerian Students Abroad, Biafra, Boko Haram & More

President Muhammadu Buhari recently sat with Martine Dennis of Al Jazeera in Qatar for an in-depth interview.
The journalist was up-to-date on the Nigerian economy and politics, and asked him the burning questions affecting everyday Nigerians.
 BIGGIEBLOG

On Falling Oil Prices
“We were unable to diversify our economy, hence we are much more disadvantaged by the lower oil prices.”

Nigeria in the Organization of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC)
“Nigeria will make the necessary sacrifice to remain in OPEC.”

On Biafra
“At least two millions Nigerians were killed in the Biafra war. And for somebody to wake up maybe they weren’t born. Looking for Biafra after two millions people were killed, they are joking with the security and Nigeria won’t tolerate Biafra.”

Devaluing the Naira
Nigeria “virtually imports everything, from rice to toothpicks”, it cannot afford to devalue its currency.
“If it is against our national interest, why can’t we go against the IMF advice?”
ForEx for Nigerian Students Schooling Abroad (from the 9 minute mark)

Martine: “What about those who are slightly more privileged like yourself? You’ve got children studying abroad. There are parents in Nigeria with kids in universities and schools abroad, who are now facing the possibility of having to pull their kids out. They can actually no longer afford to pay for school fees?”

Buhari: “If the country cannot afford it, so be it.”

Martine: “But your children will continue their studies, no doubt?”

Buhari: “Those who can afford it, can still afford it. But for those who can’t, Nigeria cannot afford to allocate foreign exchange for those who decided to train their children outside the country. We can’t just afford it.”

Martine: “So it’s tough luck.”

Buhari: “Well, that’s the true situation we are in.”

On Boko Haram
Al Jazeera reports, “Buhari’s election campaign rode on pledges to root out corruption and quash the armed group Boko Haram. Yet, Boko Haram remains active in many areas of Nigeria, seemingly able to strike at will.
He explains why he believes the security of his country is best served by being part of the Saudi-led Islamic anti-terrorism coalition announced in December 2015.”
