“My administration is determined to achieve peace and security” Read President Buhari’s Easter Message

President Buhari
President Muhammadu Buhari, on Saturday, pledged that mass killings of innocent Nigerians, abductions and other criminal atrocities would soon become history in the country.
The president made the pledge in his Easter message to the nation.

He said that his administration was determined to achieve peace and security across the nation by ending the avoidable conflicts and crises that hindered national progress.
He said already the nation’s security apparatus were being reformed and empowered to win the war against terrorism and other criminal activities across the country.

He said that the unfortunate incidents in recent years where the blood of men, women and children are wantonly and callously shed in frequent orgies of criminal, political, ethnic and religious violence had become embarrassing and unacceptable.

“My administration is determined to achieve peace and security across our nation by ending the avoidable conflicts and crises that hinder our national progress.
“I ask for the support of all Nigerians in this regard. We must put a stop to politically motivated killings.

“Our communities must be made safe again for all inhabitants to live together in peace and harmony.
“Our armed forces, police and other security agencies are being progressively reformed, re-positioned and empowered to win the war against terrorism and make mass killings, abductions and other criminal atrocities things of the past in our beloved country.

“Let us all also play our parts as patriotic citizens and do all that we can to ensure that we make Nigeria a safer, more peaceful and happier place for its people and others,” he said.

The president, who rejoiced with Nigerians, especially Christian brothers and sisters, who were celebrating Easter, urged them to imbibe the essential message of Jesus Christ, who repeatedly urged his disciples and followers to “love one another as I have loved you.”

“As we celebrate Easter this year, I sincerely believe that it will serve our dear nation very well if we all imbibe this essential message of Jesus Christ and truly learn to love our countrymen and women as we love ourselves.

“Indeed, we will surely make faster progress towards the achievement of the peaceful, united, strong, progressive and prosperous country we all desire if, as a nation, we eschew all divisive, parochial, ethnic and religious sentiments and rivalries, and begin to live more harmoniously with our compatriots, as Jesus Christ and the founders of the world’s other great religions enjoined mankind.”
According to the president, faith, belief and the fulfilment of expectations are also key themes of the Easter celebration.

He urged Nigerians to continue to have faith in the future greatness of the nation and believe that the change his administration promised would surely come to fruition.
“That change, which we all yearn for, will certainly occur more rapidly if we all place the love of our country above selfish personal and group interests.”

Buhari reassured Nigerians that his administration would ensure that the 2016 budget recently passed by the National Assembly would be efficiently and successfully implemented to achieve the objective of faster economic growth and development.

While thanking Nigerians for their patience and understanding in the first ten months of his administration, Buhari assured that the Federal Government would continue to work “very hard to overcome the challenges he encountered on assumption of office.

“We are moving on with an unshaken resolve and determination to deliver on the mandate you gave us on March 28, last year. I wish you all happy Easter celebrations”

Governor Nasir El-Rufai Calls Egypt’s Equaliser Against Nigeria a Cheat

Nasir El-Rufai - July 2014 - BN News - BellaNaija.com 01

Gov. Nasir El-Rufai of Kaduna state, has said the Pharaohs of Egypt equaliser against the Super Eagles during the 2017 AFCON qualifier played at Ahmadu Bello Stadium on Friday was not in the spirit of fair play.

El-Rufai made the remark at a dinner he held in honour of the Super Eagles on Friday night at Sir Kashim Ibrahim House, Kaduna.
According to him, the centre referee ought to have detected that the Egyptian goal
scorer, Mohamed Salah was in the offside position.

The Super Eagles’ Oghenekaro Etebo scored the curtain raiser at the 60th minute of the match.
The governor said that the Eagles played an excellent game and assured them that Kaduna fans would always support them in all their matches played in the state capital.

“You played excellent football. You were in control 65 per cent of the time; but perhaps the god of football was not on our side today.”

“We have said to you that you will not lose a match in Kaduna and you have not lost.” he said.
El-Rufai said he had no doubt that the Eagles would beat the Egyptians on March 29 at their own soil in the return leg of the match.

Also speaking, the Minister of Sport and Youth Development, Solomon Dalong said though the Eagles drew 1-1 with the Egyptians, the match was not a total loss.

“Even if it was a loss, it is good to lose once in a while as no human is an angel and a loss once in a while makes one stronger to work harder.’’

He said that the Eagles did their best and should not worry of the last minute disappointment.
He said that the Nigerian players would not have left the stadium in one piece if the fans were satisfied with their performance, considering the crowd at the stadium.

The Minister concurred with the governor’s remark that the god of football was not on the side of the Eagles
He promised that the ministry would also always support the national team.

Dignitaries that attended the dinner included the President, Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinick, the interim coach of the national team, Samson Siasia and the team’s captain Mikel Obi.

Let yourselves be moved by hope, Pope says at Easter vigil

During the Easter Vigil, Pope Francis told attendees not to be overcome by sadness in the face of life’s difficulties, but to be open to hope, which is not the absence of problems, but is a gift from God when we allow him to enter our lives.
“We, like Peter and the women, cannot discover life by being sad, bereft of hope,” the Pope said March 26.
He urged the faithful not to “stay imprisoned within ourselves, but let us break open our sealed tombs to the Lord so that he may enter and grant us life. Let us give him the stones of our rancor and the boulders of our past, those heavy burdens of our weaknesses and falls.”
As we anticipate Jesus’ Resurrection from the dead, the first stone which must be moved aside is “the lack of hope which imprisons us within ourselves,” he said.
The Pope then prayed that the Lord would free us from the trap of being “Christians without hope, who live as if the Lord were not risen, as if our problems were the center of our lives.”
Pope Francis spoke to the thousands present inside St. Peter’s Basilica for the Easter Vigil, which is celebrated the night before Easter in anticipation of Jesus’ rising from the dead.
The vigil began in the atrium of the basilica with the traditional blessing of the fire and the preparation of the Easter candle. The Pope then led a procession with the lit candle to the main altar, where he continued with the rest of the Mass.
In the course of the celebration, Francis administered the Sacraments of Christian Initiation – Baptism, Confirmation and the Eucharist – to 12 newcomers in the Catholic Church, hailing from Italy, Albania, Cameroon, Korea, India and China.
Those being baptized included Yong Joon Lee, the Korean ambassador to Italy, and his wife Hee Kim.
In his homily, the Pope noted how the women in the Gospel, after going to anoint Jesus' body, had run to the disciples and told them about how they had found the tomb empty.
Peter and the others did not initially believe the women, yet Peter ran to the tomb anyway, he said.
“There was doubt in Peter’s heart, together with many other worries: sadness at the death of the beloved Master and disillusionment for having denied him three times during his Passion,” he said.
But still, something in Peter’s behavior had changed. Instead of staying sedentary and remaining at home with the others, Peter rose, refusing to succumb to the somber atmosphere in the days following Jesus’ death or to be overcome by his doubts.
Peter, the Pope said, “was not consumed by remorse, fear or the continuous gossip that leads nowhere.”
“He was looking for Jesus, not himself. He preferred the path of encounter and trust. And so, he got up, just as he was, and ran towards the tomb from where he would return amazed.”
This, Francis observed, “marked the beginning of Peter’s resurrection, the resurrection of his heart.” Without giving in to sadness or darkness, Peter “made room for hope: he allowed the light of God to enter into his heart, without smothering it.”
Like Peter, the women also had the same experience of awe when they went to Jesus' tomb with oil and met the angel, who told them that the Lord had risen, Francis said, adding that like them, we can't allow ourselves to be overcome by a lack of hope.
Pope Francis stressed that there will always be problems “both within and without,” which won’t go away. What’s important, he said, is to place them in the light of the Risen Lord, “and in a certain sense, to evangelize them.”
The resurrection of the Lord is “the foundation of our hope,” he said, clarifying that this hope is neither “mere optimism, nor a psychological attitude or desire to be courageous.”
Rather, he said, Christian hope “is a gift that God gives us if we come out of ourselves and open our hearts to him.”
Hope will never disappoint us because we have been given the Holy Spirit, the Pope said, noting that the Spirit doesn’t seek to make things look appealing or “remove evil with a magic wand.”
The Holy Spirit, he said, “pours into us the vitality of life, which is not the absence of problems, but the certainty of being loved and always forgiven by Christ, who for us has conquered sin, death and fear.”
Pope Francis emphasized that each person, after having met Jesus, is then sent out by him to proclaim the Easter message, and “to awaken and resurrect hope in hearts burdened by sadness, in those who struggle to find meaning in life.”
However, he cautioned that we shouldn’t proclaim ourselves, but must rather be “joyful servants of hope” who announce the Risen Lord through our lives and the ways in which we love.
“Otherwise we will be only an international organization full of followers and good rules, yet incapable of offering the hope for which the world longs,” he said.
Francis concluded his homily by telling attendees that their hope can be strengthened by following the angel’s advice to the women in the Gospel: “Remember what [Jesus] told you.” He urged them to always remember Jesus’ words and deeds, “otherwise we will lose hope.”
He urged everyone to “open our hearts to hope and go forth,” praying that the constant memory of Jesus’ works and words would be “the bright star which directs our steps in the ways of faith toward the Easter that will have no end.”
