Senate President seeks renewed dedication of workers

President of the Senate, Dr. Bukola Saraki, on Sunday urged Nigerian workers to be more committed in their service to the nation, especially at this time of economic strain.

This is contained in a statement signed by Yusuph Olaniyonu, Special Adviser, Media and Publicity to the President of the Senate.
According to the statement, Saraki says that the growth and development of Nigeria depends on how much support workers give to government's policies, programmes and projects.

He commended Nigerian workers and the organised labour movement in the country for their contributions to the nation's economic growth and overall development.
He said from the pre-independence era till now, the labour movement had provided the backbone for the survival of the country.
He reiterated his promise that the Senate would continue to partner with the leadership of the organized labour in the country to address issues of national importance.

``No doubt we are not in the best of times as a nation but with cooperation, dedication and perseverance we can turn our economy around for good.

``The contribution of every Nigerian worker is key to the realisation of this dream.
``This is why I urge you to remain steadfast and faithful to the efforts being made by the present administration to revive the economy and put Nigeria on the path of growth,” he said.

He also prayed that the economic recovery programmes of President Buhari would soon bring prosperity to all workers and the entire citizenry.

"TeeBillz and Tiwa Savage, una fall my hand no be small" - Charly Boy writes

Charly Boy says he usually stays away from making comments on people's private lives but he had to make an exception in Tiwa and TeeBillz's case. Read what he wrote below...
"I must confess that my heart breaks a little each time I hear/read about celebrities who self distruct because they couldn't handle Fame or the ones whose marriages are falling apart, because they don't know how to hold it down. Its sad, especially if they are amongst stars that I admire and love" he writes.
Commenting on people's private lives is a no go area for me. But when celebrities wash their dirty linen in public I owe my reading fans to comment on trending news and issues. TeeBillz and Tiwa Savage una fall my hand no be small.
Una no know say MUTUAL RESPECT IS NON-NEGOTIABLE for marriage, why yeye una self for public like this.
Una no know say competition na for business no be for marriage what's the bullshit
Haba, una no just try.
I know that artiste/celebrities are more fragile than normal people. However they must understand that they are role models to millions of people, so no matter how deep you are hurting, you need to always come out strong. Celebs must understand that their private life is their private life and they must keep it to themselves. It will earn them more respect that way.
I know that people stay married because they want to not because the door is locked.
Biko keep your shit to yourselves, keep private private.
No marriage can escape bad weather even my own, I dey sometimes see Oba for the matter but like I say "marriage is not about being compatible but how couples deal with their incompatibility. Make I no hear una problems for loudspeakers again, joor.
AreaFada done talk him own."

Bishop weds 109 couples in Nassarawa State (PHOTO)

Most Rev. Mathew Audu, the Bishop of the Catholic Diocese of Lafia, Nasarawa State, on Saturday in Masaka joined 109 couples in a mass wedding in the state.

Speaking during his third pastoral visit to St. Martin`s Catholic Church, Masaka, Audu appealed to relatives of the new couples to allow them to build their marriages and not interfere in their private lives.
“As newly wedded couples, you must love each other just as Christ Jesus loved the church and died to set souls free,” the priest said.
“You must respect each other’s feelings; care for each other, share views and reason together in peace and unity.
“You must not allow a third party to come into your matter; always invite God to intervene in your case.
“Ensure that you are coordinated in all your dealings and make the word of God your standard, your pillar, your faith and your hope.
“If you can keep these entire commandments, your marriage will be perfect and other couples will want to copy from you,” he said.

Coming soon: Making babies... without sperm?

Advances in technology, like in vitro fertilization and surrogacy, have opened up whole new ways for people to reproduce and start families. Now, Dr. Arathi Prasad, a writer with a PhD in mammalian cell cycle biology, says the parent of the future may not even require any assistance at all from a partner — spouse, surrogate, sperm donor, or otherwise. In her book, Like a Virgin: How Science is Redesigning the Rules of Sex, Prasad describes the "ultimate solo parents" of tomorrow, who are able to use their own stem cells to produce the eggs and sperm necessary for offspring — all on their own.

Here's what you should know:

How would this work?

It all revolves around stem cells — the
malleable, early-stage cells that can be coaxed into other living parts, including skin, vital organs, and sperm and egg cells. According to Prasad, women could theoretically eliminate the need for sex and sperm during the baby-making process. Instead, a woman "could use her own stem cells and an artificial Y chromosome to produce healthy new eggs and sperm at any age," says Kira Cochrane at iol ,
creating a "pseudo-sperm" that would fertilize an egg to create an embryo. A mother wouldn't even need to carry the fetus in her own body; instead, her child-to-be could gestate in an artificial womb.

Couldn't men do the same thing?

They could, at least in theory. Such a development would allow gay couples to have children created from their own DNA, or single men to become parents just as easily as women. This kind of breakthrough could be a "great biological and social equalizer," writes Prasad . Men and women could have equal clout in the parenting process from the very beginning. Traditional parenting roles would ultimately have to be reassessed.

Wouldn't that mean the offspring are clones of their parents?

Science fiction might make that sound like it'd be the case, but it's actually not. "Every time you create an egg there's a shuffling of the DNA," says Prasad . That means each child will be slightly different, and it's the same reason why siblings "don't tend to look the same."

What about natural processes like breast milk production?

Prasad believes that all the biological experiences an expectant mother goes through could be recreated with technology. "The body is a machine," she says . Hormone therapy could be used to induce milk production in the body — even for males. Another bonus: Smoking, drinking, and other self-destructive behavior would no longer be dangerous biological factors for producing children. "The whole idea of nature being fantastic — it's not," says Prasad. "There are situations where it's not healthy [in the womb], and babies would be better off outside."

What kind of breakthroughs point to this one day being possible?

Previous studies conducted on animals have found it possible to create healthy new eggs forged from bone marrow. The same goes for sperm. Prasad envisions these kinds of futuristic conception methods being possible within the next 40 or so years after all the ethical, technological, and regulatory hurdles are out of the way. It's not really a question of "if" when it comes to this kind of technology, notes Prasad — but "when."

“I went to Israel in 2015 on a trip packaged by Dynax Travels. It was my first time there but I never felt I was away from home or in a strange place. The Dynax team took care of every little detail of the trip which included feeding, transportation, hotel reservation, room selection, and more. They obviously had a good rapport with the tour guide. The whole trip was so smooth and refreshing. The Dynax travel team are truly professionals with travels and tours.” …Omotee

“Visiting Israel for me was a great encounter. I had heard several stories and read a lot about Jerusalem, so I looked forward to a visit that will change my whole Christian experience. We were 58 women in total lead by Rev Mrs Funke Felix Adejumo. We had one person join us from Australia, three persons from the US and two from the UK. We flew into Israel from Tel Aviv.
Our tour guide was simply fantastic. We visited a lot of places which included the western wall also known as the Wailing Wall. Had the opportunity of visiting the house of Simon the tanner, the mount of olives, mount camel, the empty tomb of Jesus to mention but a few.
The boat cruise on the Sea of Galilee was an unforgettable experience. The Dead Sea was also a beautiful encounter.
We had opportunity to gather every evening to pray although we prayed at every site visited.
Israel indeed is a really a place to visit as the bible comes alive.
I also remember the baptism experience at the river Jordan. The crown of it all is the JP ceremony where everyone was decorated with lapel pins as Jerusalem pilgrims .The food also was fantastic” …Rachel Kayode-Adele.

“My trip to Israel was indeed a dream come true for I had always wanted to visit the holy land. It brought the bible alive to me as I could easily relate to the stories since I am kinesthetic in nature (a feeler ). I came to understand why the fig tree was cursed and much more. The visit to every site was awesome especially at Simon the tanner's house... oh! I can't forget it was awesome.
The food and hospitality of the people was splendid! Especially on Sabbath (friday). It was like a big wedding or feast with all kinds of delicacies and drinks(you don't want to miss it).
I loved the language and picked some words like boker tov (good morning ) toda raba (thank you very much) and not to forget the famous shalom that means hello, welcome and goodbye. I can't forget the song that we were taught by our tour guide. My son even sings it now (the peace song) wow! I could go on and on but one needs to..... how do they say a taste of the pudding is in the eating LOL.
All of these experiences were made possible by Dynax travels n tours the organization was par excellence indeed I had a great time and would recommend it to anyone. Still smiling from the experience” …Joan Kpandei.

Enugu killings: Security agencies tactically withdrew from Nimbo – Catholic Bishop

The Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Prof. Godfrey Onah, Friday, slammed security agencies over the mass murder carried out by Fulani herdsmen at Nimbo community in Enugu State.

Bishop Onah, who addressed journalists in Nsukka maintained that the killings could had been averted but for the “tactical withdrawal of security agencies from the community.”
“The most painful of the Nimbo attack is that it was announced, expected and executed in broad daylight without any inhibition.
“The security tactically withdrew, shortly before the attack and when they returned to the community, there was no attempt to pursue and arrest the herdsmen who carried out the attack.
“For now, nobody can say the exact number of people killed in Nimbo as those who were badly wounded are still dying and dead bodies are being recovered”, he said.
The Bishop urged the Federal Government to arrest the perpetrators and their sponsors and also disarm all those who carried rifle in public without permission.
“We appreciate President Muhammadu Buhari’s directive on security operatives to go after herdsmen that commit crime in some communities. We wish the directive will be carried to the letter and promptly before the situation gets out of hand.

“Protection of lives and property is the primary responsibility of any government, as act of governance will lose its meaning without the guarantee of safety of citizens.
“If nothing serious is done to call the Fulani herdsmen to order, by the time Buhari wins his war against corruption there will be no one left for him to govern,” he added.
Bishop Onah expressed fear that the attack on Nimbo might result into acute food shortage in the state.

“Nimbo is one of the food baskets and now that many people in the area are homeless, very soon the state may face the problem of acute food shortage”, he said.
He, however, urged the people of Nsukka not to engage in any form of reprisal attack.
“Besides, we should not give the security agencies any excuse to add to our woes as they are sure to respond rapidly to any perceived form of aggression on our part.
“Reprisal attack is not the answer, as it is wrong, unlawful and un-Christian; we should patiently wait for government solution in the face of this provocation”, he said.

The Bishop said the Catholic Diocese of Nsukka was mourning for the death of her children and the pains of the displaced.
“We are living in fears as no one knows when the militant herdsmen will strike again.
“The diocese has directed that prayers be offered in all churches next Sunday for the attack in Nimbo community as well as pray against such attack again in the state.
“As good Christians, like our Lord Jesus Christ, we should pray for those who persecute and kill us”, he said.

He commended Governor Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi of Enugu State and Sen Chukwuka Utazi, the senator representing Enugu North district, for their efforts in attending to the injured and the displaced people.
