Tupac Shakur’s mum, Afeni Shakur is dead

Afeni Shakur Davis, mother of late rap legend Tupac Shakur who was the subject of one of his most iconic songs and who oversaw his posthumous legacy, died today at age 69.
According to NY Daily News, Marin County deputies responded to Shakur’s home in Sausalito, Calif., Monday night after she suffered a possible cardiac arrest, the sheriff’s office said Tuesday morning. She was taken to a local hospital and died just before 10:30 p.m.
Shakur, born Alice Faye Williams, changed her name when she moved to New York City and joined the Black Panther movement. She and other party members were arrested in 1969 and charged with conspiracy to bomb multiple, busy city landmarks.
In May 1971, she was acquitted on all charges — and she gave birth to Tupac just one month later.
She was the subject of his 1995 song “Dear Mama,” in which Tupac detailed his childhood struggles and respect for his mother.
“There’s no way I can pay you back/But the plan is to show you that I understand/You are appreciated,” he rapped.

After her son’s 1996 shooting death, Shakur took over the late rapper’s estate, which reportedly earns about $900,000 each year.
Earlier this year, she filed for divorce from her husband of 12 years, Gust Davis, and was allegedly in a legal battle over the fortune, TMZ reported. Davis demanded half of the monthly $20,000 Shakur took home every month.
In 2014, Shakur co-produced “Holler If Ya Hear Me,” a Broadway jukebox musical featuring her son’s works.
A movie about Tupac’s life, “All Eyez on Me,” is set for release in November, with Danai Gurira cast as Shakur. Shakur served as an executive producer for the film.
The Marin County Sheriff’s Coroner’s Office will lead the investigation to determine the cause and manner of Shakur’s death.

Yemi Alade sets her eyes on Grammys, talks about “Mama Africa”

Yemi Alade is currently regarded as Africa’s queen, with two albums to her name, a string of international releases, and performances across the continent.


She recently did release her sophomore album “Mama Africa” , which contains the songs ‘ Ferarri’ , and ‘ Nagode’ , with the deluxe edition already out.
Yemi visited Pulse Nigeria for an interview on the album, her career, and also broader subjects regarding the concept of competition among female artistes in the Nigerian music industry, and many more.

On her switch in style after ‘ Johnny’ :


“Yes I agree that there was a switch from before ‘Johnny’ to that point in time after I released ‘Johnny’, But it wasn’t intentional…We didn’t see it coming, we didn’t plan it. It all started from the hairstyle, then it transcened into the attire, and it manifested itself in my delivery and attitude on-screen.”


On the concept of Nigeria having a throne for female musicians: There are several thrones. If there are thrones for guys, then there are thrones for females. But sincerely, there is only a galaxy of stars. There’s really no throne…he throne belongs to whoever is your favorite at that time.



On her music lacking diversity: People have the right to their opinions, and I definitely know that I’m in an industry where everybody wants their opinion to be heard. The least I can do is sometimes listen, and sometimes do me. If I had been listening all the time, I don’t think I would even get half way to where I am now. I probably would have quit music a long time ago. Because you even have lizards that have opinions too. If you ask the Lizard next door, the lizard would want to talk. You can’t understand their language, but they want to talk. So opinions are opinions, that’s all.



On Making ‘Grammy’ Music: A lot of people ask me “When are we going to go to the Grammys?…”Will you start making Grammy music?”

I ask them, ‘Did Justin Bieber have to change his sound to African music for you people to put it on your playlist? Mba (no). The Miriam Makeba and Angelique Kidjo that we are all referring to, if we listen to their music, it’s just about very African. It’s because they are African, that’s why they are special where they are outside the country…


You cannot lose yourself trying to find what you don’t have. I’m definitely the kind of person that doesn’t like to be in the box, so I don’t say no to any genre of music. I’m just going to go with the flow, and definitely be God’s grace we just will get the Grammy. But I’m trying to be an example of any other person by myself.

EFCC arrests Adamawa Chief of Staff over N2.88billion

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has arrested the Chief of Staff to Gov.Muhammadu Umaru Jibrilla, Abdurrahman Abba Jimeta, over his alleged involvement in N2.88 billion scam.
According to Leadership Newspapers, Jimeta who also served as chief of staff to former Governor Murtala Nyako, used his position to get some contracts and divert some of the state funds.
He is being investigated for his alleged involvement in a scam amounting to over N2.88 billion for the renovation of Yola International Hotel that was awarded during Murtala Nyako’s administration.
The contract for the project had been reviewed almost three times while payment were categorized into nine installments where the government then paid up to N2.664 billion leaving a balance of N204 million.
The EFCC operatives upon arrival in the state, sealed off some properties belonging to Jimeta located along Karewa road opposite Bekaji housing estate.

Police offer N5million reward for info on kidnapped former Minister

The Ogun State Police Command has offered N5 million reward to anyone with information on the kidnapped former Minister of State for Education, Senator Iyabo Anisulowo who was abducted at her farm in Sawonjo/Iganokoto area of the state last week.


A statement signed and released today by the state command’s spokesman, Muyiwa Adejobi, asked the informant to either contact the state Police Commissioner, Abdulmajid Ali; the spokesman, Adejobi or the officer in charge of Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS), Gbenga Megbope.




“The Ogun State Police Command has offered N5 million reward to any informant(s) who has useful information for the police on the kidnap of Senator Iyabo Anisulowo. The Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Abdulmajid Ali, made this declaration on Monday in Abeokuta after a security meeting with some officers of the command and security chiefs. Other security chiefs at the meeting included the Commander 35 Artillery Brigade, Nigerian Army, Alamala, Abeokuta, Brig. Gen. S. Danwalis and Director, Department of State Service, Ogun State, Kabir Sanni. The Commissioner of Police appeals to the public for support by providing useful information that can assist in the rescue of the kidnapped victim. Anyone with reliable information can get across to the Commissioner of Police Ogun State, CP Abdulmajid Ali, on 09020911911; PPRO Ogun State, DSP Muyiwa Adejobi on 08081774631; officer in charge of SARS, CSP Gbenga Megbope on 08081766937, or any security agency around. Military Arrests Killer Of General Shuwa

The officials of Nigerian military intelligence have arrested a suspected killer of Major General Mohammed Shuwa (Rtd).
Mohammed Shuwa was murdered in his residence in Maiduguri, Borno State by suspected Boko Haram sect on November 2, 2012.
The retired military officer was the first General Officer Commanding of the Nigerian Army's 1st Division. He also commanded the Nigerian Army's 1st Division during the Nigerian Civil War.
The Army spokesperson, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman confirmed that the suspect will be paraded in Kano where he was arrested.

Troops Capture Boko Haram Terrorists Hiding in Foxholes and Dug Outs

The Nigerian Military has disclosed that troops have cleared four villages of Boko Haram terrorists hiding in foxholes and dug outs.


The statement by its Acting Director Army Public Relations, Colonel Sani Kukasheka Usman also said that the troops recovered 300 cattle rustled by the terrorists from Fulani Herdsmen among other items.

In compliance with the military high command’s directive which is to ensure that all villages and towns are cleared of remnants of Boko Haram terrorists, troops of 22 Brigade Garrison in Operation LAFIYA DOLE, on Sunday, May 1st 2016 cleared 4 villages of Boko Haram terrorists hiding in the area.
The terrorists hibernating in Cinga, Mallum Maja, Bosuma and Murye villages, were armed with dangerous weapons and have been terrorizing the communities. During the operations 3 Boko Haram terrorists were killed, while 9 of them who tried hiding in foxholes and dug outs were identified and captured alive.
Items recovered from them include 9 Dane guns, 3 machetes, 1 bow with arrows, 6 motor cycles used by the Boko Haram terrorists to ferry slaughtered cow meats to Boko Haram terrorists hideouts were recovered and burnt.
Other items recovered include 1 tricycle, 4 x Tiger Generators and 1 solar panel. The troops also recovered 300 cattle rustled by the Boko Haram terrorists from Fulani herdsmen and handed over to their rightful owners.
Similarly, 400 persons held hostage by the terrorists were rescued and set free.
It is gratifying to state that we have not sustain any casualty to own troops and equipment and troops morale remain very high.

Police Allegedly Torture 19- yr-old Boy To Death In Lagos

A 19 - year -old boy identified as Gafar Ayoola , who resided at 16 , Bridge Road , Otto , Ebute Metta in Lagos Mainland , had been allegedly tortured to death while in detention at Denton Police Station, Lagos.
Vanguard gathered that Gafar Ayoola , who was a barber at Okoafo , Badagry Area , was arrested Friday morning by a policeman attached to Denton Divisional Police station , Oyingbo, on his way to board a cab to his work place . It was learned that when news of Gafar ’s arrest got to his parents, they stormed the station demanding to know why he was arrested, but the policemen on duty denied having any suspect with that name in their custody .

According to his father , Sulaiman Ayoola , “ he was arrested by one of the officers at Denton police station named Taye .
When the news got to us , we went to the police station but the officers on duty lied that they did not see or know the reason behind Gafar ’ s arrest . “ However, this morning (Saturday ) at the police station , one of the police officers was trying to pacify us by disclosing that Gafar was rushed to Dunik Hospital at Kano Street by Bola in Ebute Metta (East ) where he breathed his last

University students have decided the celebrate May Day on a more significant note by stripping n*ked and dipping into the ocean. The May Day swim is an annual tradition dozens take part in, which is said to bring good luck before their end-of-year exams.
