5 ways to meet Mr Right in Lagos

A lot of female visitors who storm Lagos have romance at the back of their minds as they hope to meet the guy that would sweep them off their feet during their stay. Unfortunately, while single men are literally everywhere in the city, meeting quality single guys can be an arduous task. Everyone seems to be so busy, and the ones you manage to meet at bars and club may not exactly be what you would consider “quality”.
Truth is, finding eligible men in Lagos could be an elusive game if they are at a loss as to where to meet them. Jovago.com, Africa’s largest online hotel booking portal comes to the rescue with   top 5 ways girls in Lagos who are serious about taking their destiny can meet quality eligible men.
unspecified1
Get your blood pumping at the gym
If you have a gym in your hotel or a sport center around you, take advantage of it. Most of the men in Lagos are fitness conscious and they like to spend quality time at the gym. Basically, you would be killing two birds with one stone: you get to exercise your body, get your blood flowing, and also create opportunities to run into the love of your life!
Most of the men you will meet at the gym would be attractive and responsible as their presence at the gym already shows that they value their health. And do not forget to go for an attractive sports gear as opposed to the normal sweat pants and T-shirt.

Attend weddings
Anyone who lives in Lagos can attest to the fact that wedding are the number one place to meet single quality guys. Forget the lewd assumption that single men at weddings just want to get laid, if you keep that in mind, you will not make progress. Most of the men actually come to wedding to look out for the girls who rush out for the bouquet when the bride throws it to the crowd, that way they know they already stand a chance.
Do not deny any invitation to a wedding, especially when it is a friend or someone of good reputation. Just ensure you look great, keep a smile and look approachable, dance like your life depends on it, and of course, fight for that bouquet when you see it high up in the air.

Go to church
Rather than sit in your hotel room or place of accommodation on the Sunday while visiting, why not get up, get dressed and head out to church? You never know who you would meet and what better way to meet a quality single guy than coming across him in the presence of the lord? There is none better than a man who has high regard for God and stays committed to his religion. There is a higher chance of things working out with him, as most of the single men in church are in search of opportunities for serious relationships. The bonus is that you get to meet someone who shares the same faith and moral grounding as well. Luckily, there are a number of churches around Lagos that you visit.
Attractive couple having fun together at the beach
Take a stroll at a private beach
Put meeting the perfect single guy on the side, visiting the private beaches or resorts in Lagos can be a rewarding experience on its own. From La Campagne Tropicana to  Kampe Ikare, Atican beach  or just Oniru beach, there are boundless opportunities to run into eligible men.
There are basically three kinds of guys you will see at the beach: those who are there alone, those with their group of male friend (their behavior will mark them out as single) and those who visit with their baes, girlfriends or wives. The first two are your best bet. Do not feel too shy to approach them and a strike up a conversation…most love stories begin with a few rods spoken.

Make your location visible online
A lot of people in Lagos meet their boyfriends and husbands online via social media apps like Instagram, Facebook or Snapchat Instamessage. In fact, this is the latest method of meeting single men in the city. Social media apps give users opportunities to find others with similar interests close to them. And so, unless your location is visible it might be difficult for guys in the area to see you and hit you up. Make your location visible the moment your feet touch the shores of Lagos and stay online.
If you do not have accounts on any of the social media platforms, search for online dating sites, there are some exclusive to Nigeria and even Lagos.  You can check out profiles and photographs and connect with whoever appeals to you.

5 Snapchat tricks every Nigerian should know

Nigerians have proven that Snapchat is indeed addictive! The moment you find anyone with their nose in their phone these days, he or she is most probably checking their feeds and uploading snaps. A user can send any of the “snaps” or images created on the app to friends, including their own personal touch, which delete themselves after a couple of hours.

While the app can create a lot fun, it however has a complex user interface which makes it very hard to use, and as such, so many users are unaware of more than half of the things they could do with it.

For users looking to graduate from the basic level of just sending photos & videos to friends, Jovago.com, Africa’s No.1 online hotel booking site has made a list of 5 cool tricks that will ensure users make the most out of the app and even impress their friends.

Add music to your snaps

Unknown to a lot of users, the Snapchat app allows the inclusion of music to videos taken with the app and it is a very easy process. You do not need to play the music in the background while making the video as you may not get the sound quality you desire. All you need to do is play the song you want in your video through a music player app on your smartphone, and while the song is playing, record a video on Snapchat. Magical!
Resize Emoji characters
Sometimes, you want to enlarge an Emoji on your screen or make it smaller. To achieve that, all you need to do is select the one you want to use; next, hit the "T" symbol in the upper right corner; then, using two fingers preferably your index finger and your thumb, zoom in and out of the Emojis. The process of zooming in or out determined how much bigger or smaller you make it eventually.
Switch between cameras while filming
This is a trick that you certainly cannot achieve on other social media apps. Rather than capture your film all from one point of view, you can actually create videos of your face and your POV by swapping between front-facing and rear cameras during your snaps. This does not only make the filming process super fun, it makes the snap very engaging for viewers

See the views your story

The whole point of recording snaps is so people can view it and maybe make their comment, so, naturally, every user will want to know how many views they have per snap, as well discover the identity of the people who made the views. While it seems like there is no option to achieve the latter, it pretty simple. All you need to do is go to the “Stories” tab, available one swipe away from the home page.  A tap on “My Story” reveals an eyeball with a number next to it. Tap on that eyeball and you'll get a drop-down list with the names of all your followers who have viewed it.

Combine two filters in one snap
Every single person on the social media will attest to the fact that filters are the best! Filters can literally transform a look or view and make it much more appealing. Generally, filters make the Snapchat experience  much more exciting, so imagine how much more fun you can have using two filters at once? It is possible!  You can actually use an image filter along with one of the data label filters that are available. All you need to is apply the first filter on a snap, then hold one finger on the display while using another finger to choose between the other filters. It is not tedious at all.

Kano-bound train derails, kills 2

A passenger train that departed Lagos for Kano derailed at Jebba in the early hours of Saturday, leaving at least two dead and many passengers injured, PREMIUM TIMES has learnt.
The train left Lagos at 12:00 noon on Friday with dozens of passengers and consignments, a survivor said.
The survivor who spoke with PREMIUM TIMES on Saturday afternoon said the crash occurred after the train suffered brake failure at Jebba Train Station shortly after 7 a.m.
The survivor, who asked that his identity be protected, said the accident claimed at least four lives with undetermined number of injured commuters currently undergoing treatment at various emergency facilities in the town.
“The train left Lagos yesterday and crashed in Jebba this morning around 7 a.m. as it was trying to stop for those of us coming to Jebba,” the survivor said. “It was due to brakes failure.”
Officials of the Federal Road Safety Commission, FRSC, who responded to the emergency said two persons were confirmed dead after detached coaches from the train fell on passengers.
Bisi Kazeem, FRSC’s Head of Media Relations, told PREMIUM TIMES the train was conveying goods to Kano, but had few passengers on-board.
“The accident occurred this morning near Jebba Paper Mill and we can confirm that two people, unfortunately, lost their lives and three people were injured,” Mr. Kazeem said. “The train is used more as a cargo train, but it had some travellers inside.”
Mr. Kazeem further stated that road safety officials and police worked together to rescue trapped passengers and evacuate the injured to the hospital.
“With the support of the police, we were able to get those who were trapped out alive and took those who survived injuries to the hospital.”

Drake joins Forbes list of top 5 richest hip-hop stars

Rapper Aubrey “Drake” Graham became the newest member of The Forbes five club of hip-hop’s wealthiest artist on Monday with a net worth of 60 million dollars, said Forbes.

The annual list had regularly included rap artistes Bryan “Birdman” Williams, Andre “Dr. Dre” Young, Shawn “Jay Z” Carter, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson and Sean “Diddy” Combs.

Due to the mismanagement of funds which resulted in a bankruptcy last summer, 50 Cent was superseded by Drake, who had increased his net worth through touring, music releases and business deals with Nike, Sprite and Apple.

Drake’s forth studio album ‘’views’’, a Toronto native who goes by his middle name, sold an estimated 630,000 copies on its April 29 release date, according to Vibe Magazine.

With each album selling at 13.99 dollars exclusively on iTunes, the 29-year-old made about 800,000 dollars that night on release.
Business mogul and rap artist Diddy continued to hold the number one title with a net worth of 750 million dollars.

Thanks to his agreement with Diageo’s Circo vodka, stakes in his music television network Revolt, his clothing line Sean John and more.

Dr Dre followed with 710 million dollars, then Jay Z in third place with 610 million dollars and finally Birdman, who came fourth with 110 million dollars.

While his net worth was small in comparison to his fellow club members, Drake was quickly climbing the ranks, earning some 150 million dollars to date before taxes and spending, Forbes said.

The business magazine analyzes artistes’ past earnings, values their current holdings and talks to industry specialists to determine which hip-hop star makes it on the list.
Combined together, Forbes disclosed that, all five artists are worth 2.2 billion dollars. (Reuters\NAN)

With Akwa Ibom hospital, no govt-sponsored foreign treatment for Nigerians from 2017 — Minister

The Federal Government says it will partner with the Akwa Ibom Government on the operations of Ibom Specialist Hospital, Uyo, to stop Nigerians from seeking medical treatment abroad.
The Minister of Health, Prof. Isaac Adewole, made this promise on Saturday in Uyo while inspecting facilities at the Akwa Ibom government’s owned Ibom Specialist Hospital.
Mr. Adewole noted that with facilities at Ibom Specialist Hospital, medical tourism abroad can be reversed.
“Visiting the hospital complex today is an eye opener, there is no such complex like this anywhere in Nigeria,” the minister said.
He announced that with the proposed partnership, no Nigerian would be allowed to go abroad for treatment on government sponsorship from Jan. 2017.
“We will partner to make sure that it works and reverses medical tourism. People from Ghana and Togo can come to Nigeria for medical treatment.
“We will start using this facility, with this facility, no Nigerian will be allowed to go abroad for treatment,” Mr. Adewole said.
The minister warned medical doctors to desist from running a syndicate of sending people abroad for treatment for pecuniary interest.
Mr. Adewole, however, said that individuals could go abroad on their own expenses if they so wish but not on government sponsorship.
The minister said the state owned Diagnostic Centre at Ikot Ekpene would be converted to Lassa Fever Diagnostic Centre.
He commended the state government for constructing the Emergency Operation Centre (EOC) at Ikot Ekpene to help reduce the pressure on the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital (UUTH).
Earlier, the minister and his entourage had paid a courtesy visit on the state governor, Udom Emmanuel, at Government House.
The governor had appealed for assistance from the Federal Government to make the state a healthcare tourism destination in Nigeria.
Mr. Emmanuel said the state government had invested much in the health sector and would like the Federal Government to help boost the patronage of the Ibom Specialist Hospital.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that this was the maiden visit of the minister to Akwa Ibom since his appointment last October. (NAN)

Buhari to travel to London for anti-corruption summit

President Muhammadu Buhari will Tuesday travel to London to participate in the international Anti-Corruption Summit which will be held in the British capital on Thursday.
President Buhari will play a “prominent part” in the summit which will be hosted by Prime Minister David Cameron of Great Britain with many other Heads of State and Government in attendance, a statement on Saturday signed by presidential spokesperson, Femi Adesina, said.
President Buhari will, ahead of the summit’s opening, deliver a keynote address titled: “Why We Must Tackle Corruption Together” at a pre-summit conference of development partners, the Commonwealth Enterprise and Investment Council, Transparency International and other civil society groups on Wednesday.
“The president is one of the world leaders scheduled to speak at the opening session of the Anti-Corruption Summit with others, including Prime Minister Cameron and the President of the World Bank, Dr. Jim Yong Kim.
“Thereafter, President Buhari will join other participating heads of State and Government at special plenary sessions on Exposing Corruption, Tackling Corruption and Driving out Corruption.
“In his address to the summit and interactions with other participating leaders, President Buhari will urge the international community to move faster on the dismantling of safe havens for the proceeds of corruption and the return of stolen funds and assets to their countries of origin.
“The President will also reaffirm his administration’s unwavering commitment to the fight against corruption and the Federal Government’s readiness to partner with international agencies and other countries to identify, apprehend and punish corrupt public officials.
“President Buhari’s delegation to the Summit will include the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Alhaji Abubakar Malami and the acting Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Mr. Ibrahim Magu.
“Before returning to Abuja on Friday, May 13, 2016, the President is expected to have a separate meeting with Prime Minister Cameron to discuss ongoing Nigeria-Britain collaboration in the war against corruption and terrorism, as well as other issues, including trade and economic relations between both countries,” the statement said.

Catholic Bishops to Buhari: Build ranches in cattle-rearing states, declare attackers insurgents

The Catholic Bishops Conference of Nigeria has asked the Federal Government to focus on building cattle ranches in states where cattle rearing is prevalent.
A delegation of the CBCN, led by its president, Ignatius Kaigama, stated this during a meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at the presidential villa in Abuja.
In an address, delivered by Mr. Kaigama, the Catholic Bishop of Jos Arch Diocese, the CBCN called on Mr. Buhari to investigate the recent attacks by herdsmen in Agatu, Benue State; Nimbo community in Umuchigbo, Enugu State, and parts of Delta as well as Nasarawa States, among others and declare the perpetrators of the attacks, insurgents.
“Cattle ranches should be created in states known for cattle breeding, with adequate water and fodder provided and nurtured.
“Farmland for root crops and other plants should be protected for their specific products in states known for such.
“This will reduce or eliminate clashes stemming from trespassing,” Mr. Kaigama said.
The CBCN leader charged the Federal Government to focus on disarming herdsmen, saying that the perpetrators of violence should not be allowed to force Nigerians to live in perpetual fear of their follow citizens.
“The fact that armed attacks and wanton killings have become a national threat, it should be declared an insurgency and treated as such, with the aim of dislodging the insurgents from occupied communities by the security and military operatives.
“Our people cannot continue to live in perpetual fear of attacks by fellow Nigerians with criminal intent,” the Bishop said.
The CBCN commended the president’s resolve to deal with the problem, and called for serious approach towards the proposed investigation.
“Happily, we understand that you have ordered some investigations into the Agatu and Nimbo killings.
“The Agatu killings, the Nimbo killings and many other killings in Benue, Taraba, Nassarawa, Ondo, Edo, Delta and elsewhere should be seriously investigated, with the perpetrators unmasked and decisively dealt with.
“For a more permanent peace between herdsmen and farmers in our country, some streamlining is necessary for the good of the cattle rearers in the North and for the welfare of farmers in the South and elsewhere in Nigeria,” Mr. Kaigama stated.
Mr. Kaigama also called on the president to continue the war against terror, as the law requires, and noted that the high rate of success in the battle against corruption is great relief for well meaning Nigerians.
“We commend your efforts in the fight against Boko Haram and against corruption. We encourage that justice be done according to the rule of law, with no sacred cows to be spared.
“These two monsters which you are tackling pretty well have threatened to destabilize Nigeria and to cripple our national growth and development. Although many people have been killed, many others rendered homeless and are without adequate means of livelihood, we commend you for being quite successful so far in repelling the insurgence from decimating Nigeria by halting its further advance,” the Bishops stated.
The Bishops also called on the Federal Government to increase support for missionary schools as a way of improving Nigeria’s educational sector.

PDP set to win all 36 states in 2019 – Governor

The opposition Peoples Democratic Party is set to prevail nationwide over the ruling All Progressives Congress in the 2019 general elections, Delta State Governor, Ifeanyi Okowa, has said.
The governor, who said the PDP was getting stronger all over the country, spoke at Owa, Ika North-East local government area of Delta State, while addressing PDP faithful after the local government congress in the area.
“We are confident that going into the future, we will win all the states of the federation,” Mr. Okowa said.
“We must continue to build consensus, we must be able to build friendship and ensure that every voice is heard; we have always won elections in Delta State but we cannot go to sleep.”

Mr. Okowa added, “I congratulate the chairman and those who were elected into the executive committee of the party at the local government areas, including the national delegates.
“I must thank our party leaders because what we witnessed today, shows unity and strength; we had very peaceful congresses not only in Ika North-East but the 25 local government areas of Delta State.
“We have engaged in the process of reconciliation and building consensus and the peace we are enjoying in our party today is a product of hard work.
“Because we worked hard, we had a peaceful congress and we have seen a wonderful showing that we love ourselves and the consensus we have built is good for us.”
Declaring the result of the congress in the local government, the PDP Returning Officer in the local government, Chux Nwaebuni, thanked the people for their orderly conduct which he said produced peaceful elections.
According to the result he declared, Godwin Ogadi was re-elected chairman, with Johnbull Miti elected deputy chairman.
