As Ramadan begins Buhari, Saraki, Dogara sue for peace, security

As Nigerian Muslims join their counterparts from across the world in commencing the fasting in the Holy month of Ramadan, President Muhammadu Buhari has advised Muslims to use the period as a great opportunity to seek forgiveness and get closer to Allah through worship and good deeds during this period.
Also, President of the Senate, Bukola Saraki has urged Muslim faithful to use the period of this year’s Ramadan to pray for peace, security and God’s intervention in tackling the myriad socio-economic challenges confronting the n
On his part, House of Representatives Speaker, Yakubu Dogara, has appealed to Muslim faithfuls to use the f Ramadan to offer special intercessory prayers for peace and stability of the country and leaders at all levels.
In his message to mark the beginning of the 29 or 30 days fasting period, the president, speaking through his Special Media Assistant, Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, last night, said the month of Ramadan is a time of spiritual reawakening which demands not only abstention from food and drinks, but also all wrongdoing in their lives.
The president explained that he is always disturbed why people seek to make brisk profits by hiking food prices as soon as the month of Ramadan starts.
He assured that the government was working towards bringing relief to their lives through palliative measures and faithful implementation of the 2016 national budget.
In a statement to mark the commencement of this year’s Ramadan fasting season signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Yusuph Olaniyonu, Saraki thanked God for the grace to participate in another holy obligation as enjoined by the Holy Quran.
He said: “We have entered into another season of rededication to the worship of God and service to humanity. This is a major commandment to mankind and a season of sacrifice and forgiveness. I enjoin all Muslim faithful to rededicate themselves to the true ideals of Islam as a religion of peace.”
Dogara, in a statement issued by his spokesman, Turaki Hassan in Abuja on Sunday, said that the country is in dire need of special prayers in view of the present state of the economy and the security situation in the nation.
He said history has shown that no challenge is difficult for humanity to overcome once the people resolve to work together towards implementing solutions, and pray for God’s guidance and direction.
According to him, many societies and nations have passed through even more difficulties than ours, but they were able to surmount them. “Ours is no exception, and we too shall overcome,” he admonished

Face Care Tips: 6 Tips to Protect Your Face From Sun Damage

The skin on your face is most susceptible to sun damage. In fact, one study on the distribution of skin cancer found that the highest rate of skin cancer was on the face. Furthermore, exposure to UV radiation accounts for 80% of visible signs of skin aging according to a study carried out on 298 Caucasian women. This is why it is so important to protect the delicate skin on your face from the sun. To decrease your chances of skin cancer and premature aging, follow these seven tips:

1. Sunscreen

To decrease your chances of UV damage, it is important to wear sunscreen on a daily basis. There has been a recent scare regarding the chemical composition of sunscreens but realistically speaking, UV radiation is much more dangerous than any ingredient found in sunscreens. Darrell Rigel, M.D., clinical professor of dermatology at New York University claims that sunscreens lower one’s risk of skin cancer and that the benefits of wearing sunscreen outweigh any possible risks. In short, any sunscreen is safe sunscreen.

2. Lip balm

Most of us tend to forget that we also need to protect our lips from UV rays. The skin on our lips is very thin and susceptible to sun damage. The lips, along with the surrounding eye area show the first signs of aging. There are plenty of lip balms on the market that offer UV protection. Next time you plan to spend a weekend outdoors, make sure to carry a lip balm with SPF with you.

3. Watch for UV radiation

There are times of the year and day when UV radiation is at its peak. The commonly held belief is to avoid the sun between 10 am and 4 pm. However, one recent study found that for optimal synthesis of vitamin D and the least danger of melanoma was to spend time in the sun between 10 am and 1 pm. This, of course, contradicts our previously held beliefs about sun exposure. For this reason, Darrell Rigel, M.D recommends using your common sense when it comes to sun exposure. The winter months are when UV radiation is at its lowest, and if the day is cloudy and rainy, you’d naturally assume that the Sun’s rays are not as strong.

4. Don’t forget the ears, head, neck, and feet.

These happen to be the locations on our body commonly neglected when it comes to sun protection. A study on the distribution of melanoma found that men are at greater risk of developing melanoma in these areas because these areas are more often exposed to the sun in males than in females. If you are male, make sure to wear a hat and put sunscreen on your ears and the back of the neck. Also, don’t neglect your feet when applying sunscreen.

5. Sunglasses

Previously rare, ocular cancer has been rising at an alarming rate in recent years according to skincancer.org. Besides damaging your eyes and vision, the sun can also damage the delicate skin around your eyes which can lead to fine lines, wrinkles, and bags under the eyes. The skin around your eyes is the first to show the signs of aging because it is much thinner than the surrounding skin. You don’t have to worry about the price of sunglasses because even the inexpensive ones will offer you enough protection as observed in one study of 32 pairs of inexpensive sunglasses.

6. Reapply sunscreen

You shouldn’t rely solely on sunscreen to avoid sun damage. Sunscreens can significantly decrease the chances of sun damage, but they are imperfect. Sunscreens break down after some time or as in the case of physical sunblocks; they clump on the skin. For these reasons, sunscreens should be reapplied at least every 2 hours if you plan to spend the day in the sun.
The skin on your face is where the first signs of aging show. It is also the most common are where skin cancer occurs. While clothing offers a lot of protection to the skin on your body, you need to take other measures to protect your face from sun damage.

5 Proven Tips To Prevent Your Lips From Darkening

All women dream of having beautiful lips, with a delicate pink hue and impressive softness. However, due to some factors, the lip tissue can become darker in color and even suffer from uneven pigmentation. Among these factors, there are chronic smoking, excessive exposure to the sun and drinking staining beverages, such as coffee or tea. In the paragraphs below, we will present no less than five proven tips, destined to help you prevent your lips from darkening. Enjoy yourself while reading this article and do not hesitate to actually put this advice to good use.

#1 Lemon & honey mixture

If you are interested in giving your lips their natural, beautiful color, all you have to do is mix some fresh lemon juice with honey (in equal quantities). Apply the resulting mixture on your lips, maintaining it for about an hour. Then, rinse it off with lukewarm water. You can repeat the application as often as you want, as there are no associated risks or harmful side-effects to worry about. Everyone knows that lemon juice acts as a natural brightener while honey nourishes and moisturizes the lips. However, keep in mind that the lemon juice will make your lips sensitive to the action of the sun, so avoid going out immediately afterward.

#2 Glycerin

One of the main factors that contribute to the darkening process of the lips is the lack of moisture. Dehydration can cause the lips to appear darker than they really are, making the signs of aging more visible as well (such as the fine lines around the lips). Because of that, it is recommended to apply glycerin on your lips, right before going to bed. This natural remedy will prevent the loss of moisture during sleep, allowing your lips to look fantastic in the morning. Then, all you will have to do is apply one of the best lip plumpers and the rest of your makeup, being prepared for a truly awesome day.

#3 Water

We have already mentioned above that dehydration can cause your lips to appear darker than they actually are. It is not sufficient to resort to various remedies, hoping that they will take care of the dehydration problem. You should drink at least 8 glasses of water per day, in order to ensure that your body stays hydrated from within. In this way, your lips are going to return to their natural color, and you won’t have to worry about such problems anymore. Water is beneficial for the health of the skin in general; when you do not drink sufficient amounts, you run the risk of fine lines, wrinkles and other signs of aging becoming more visible.

#4 Beetroot massage

If you want beautiful lips, all you have to do is cut a beetroot into slices and place them in the fridge for a couple of minutes. Then, take a piece and massage your lips with it, for as long as you feel like. This natural remedy will restore your lips’ color, plus it will give them a soft texture. Now, you will no longer have to worry about the causes of chapped lips. The beetroot massage can hydrate your lips as well, helping them look better than ever. The good news is that you can repeat this application as often as you want; given the fact that we are talking about natural remedies, you do not have to be anxious about side-effects or allergic reactions.

#5 Exfoliating Scrub

Often, your lips have a darker color than normal, as an excessive quantity of dead cells has accumulated on the surface. You can improve the overall aspect of the lips, restoring their natural color, by applying a simple, homemade scrub. All you have to do is mix a little bit of honey with brown sugar, applying the resulting mixture to your lips. Perform a gentle massage using the scrub, in order to eliminate dead skin cells and expose a healthy layer. After a couple of minutes, rinse the mixture with lukewarm water and apply a natural lip balm. Repeat the process at least two times per week for the best results.

These are only a couple of suggestions on how you can improve the appearance of your lips, restoring their natural color. At the same time, it is recommended to avoid excessive sun exposure, as this can cause the lips to become darker and even increases the risk of skin cancer. It is also important to drink plenty of water, in order to stay hydrated and enjoy a healthy aspect of your lips (and skin in general). Avoid smoking and exposure to polluting factors, as these can cause the lips to darken as well. And, remember, whenever you are going out, you should use a lip balm with high SPF for protection purposes.

You cannot enjoy a dinner until you take a photo of the meal

A dinner is meant for two. However, there is always a third companion which is your phone. During your date, you cannot enjoy time out with your spouse without fiddling with your phone or taking photos of especially your meal. At the end of the day, you will realize that both of you don't really know much about each other aside from the food and other selfies you both took and post on each other's social media page.

You are always flirting online

It is easier to meet people online. Gone are the days when men only approach women in church or on the road. Today, there virtual relationships. It is not that these virtual relationship are important to you. You are just doing it for fun. Unknown to you, you spend more time flirting online than talking to your partner. Your relationship is heading into troubled to waters.

You share too many details about your relationship on social media

If you do not want to ruin your relationship, do not share anything about your relationship online. it is unethical as it is advisable keep all private matters private. Even your partner may not like the idea of publicizing your relationship on social media whether it is on twitter or Facebook.

Stalking each other

In a transparent and trustworthy relationship, you do not need to stalk each other. But, due  to your own insecurity, you become a detective overnight. You go as far as checking the pictures and profile of their partners online to satisfy your unfounded suspicion, and even track the phones and text messages of their partner. What will you

Rarely pay each other visits

Visiting or seeing each other often is another way to groom your relationship. However, due to instant messages and social media, you do not deem it necessary to check on your partner. BREAKING NEWS: FG scraps POST UTME (JAMB cut off mark set at 180)

The post Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examinations (UTME) for candidates seeking admission into higher institution has been scrapped by the federal government.

The federal government explained that all tertiary institutions were at liberty to conduct screening for candidates seeking admission into any school.

According to The Nation, Mallam Adamu Adamu, the minister of education, disclosed this on Thursday, June 2, in Abuja after declaring open the 2016 Combined Policy Meeting on Admissions to Universities, Polytechnics and other higher institutions in Nigeria.

Adamu, expressed confidence in the examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), adding that there was no need for other examination to be conducted by universities after JAMB.

He said: “As far as I am concerned the nation has confidence in what JAMB is doing. The universities should not be holding another examination and if the universities have any complain against JAMB let them bring it and then we address it.

“If JAMB is qualified enough to conduct tests and they have conducted test then there will be no need to conduct another test for students to gain admission.”

The minister of education has also asked JAMB to stop extra charges on several categories of changes on admissions such as the change of course, change of school and others.

Meanwhile, JAMB has pegged the cut off mark for admission for 2016 at 180.

The 180 cut off mark, applies to all universities and higher institutions in the country, including polytechnics, colleges of education, and others.

Prof. Dibu Ojerinde, JAMB’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, after a long debate with delegates from various institutions, said that no institution would go below the 180 cut-off set by the board.

About 9 months ago JAMB registrar had predicted that the post-UTME screening exercise would stop following the introduction of the Computer-Based Test (CBT).

Ojerinde said the reason for this is that the Computer Based mode of UTME had helped to completely eradicate examination malpractice.

Post-JAMB tests for applicants was introduced my many universities and polytechnic before they are offered admission, irrespective of whether they passed the JAMB examination, which has attracted its fair share of criticism as it was described as a means of extorting money from applicants.
