Rapper Nicki Minaj is going to produce an ABC Family series about her life, the network said on Tuesday.
The as-yet-untitled show will follow Minaj’s arrival in the U.S. from Trinidad and Tobago with her family, her experience growing up in Queens in the 1990s and her evolution as a rapper.
“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said Minaj, who will be executive producer of the series, according to Deadline. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”
The show will be written by Sex Tape screenwriter Kate Angelo. The pilot will be filmed this winter. “Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” said Karey Burke, ABC Family’s EVP of programming and development. “We’re beyond thrilled to bring her one-of-a-kind story to our channel. Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”
