Korede Bello: My new song “Somebody Great” Is a Prophesy To Inspire People To Greatness

Korede Bello, the rave of the moment in the music industry, has said that his new song entitled “Somebody Great’’, is a prophesy to inspire people to greatness. Bello told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos on Friday that he wrote the song to make people visualise success in their minds and then work hard to achieve it.

The new song currently enjoys massive airplay on radio just like the first single, entitled “Godwin’’. Cue in audio

“ (It’s) about the people, how we were born into this world and we don’t know how the journey will go and how one love will take us from nobody to somebody.

”How I one day hoped that my voice would unite people and stop bombing and fighting and tribulations.

“That my voice would command authority; it’s not just me, it’s about alleviating people from oppression and mental poverty.

“You can be somebody great from nobody to
somebody, you can be anything you want to be: have love for God, love for people, one love.

“But also one of the reasons why I wrote that song is for people to see themselves as great.

“Because before you can be somebody great, you need to first see it in your mind and you need to prophesy it to yourself, you need to say it to yourself.

“And I guess, those are one of the privileges of being a musician because you can put things out there in a melodic form that can change people’s lives forever.

“The song is more like a prophesy for everybody that listens to it to be able to command authority; command respect and most of all, have mental wealth.’’

Korede also told NAN that the song was about his personal struggles, and how he triumphed to become a star from nothing.

NAN reports that Korede Bello has a contractual
agreement with Don Jazzy’s Marvin Records alongside Tiwa Savage, Reekado Banks, D’ija and Dr Sid.

Flood Washes Snakes into Communities in Plateau State

The massive flooding in Plateau have washed snakes from far distances into farms and residences in Pankshin/Kanke/Kannam Federal Constituency, according to Rep. Timothy Golu.
Golu, who represents the area in the House of Representatives, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), in Jos on Sunday that “all manner of snakes” had taken over his constituency.

“The floods have pushed snakes into my constituency. They move around openly and snake bites have become very common there.
“As the waters pushed them, some snakes climbed trees; others entered holes while some just held unto any straw . All of them later descended into residences and farms where they have been wreaking havoc,” he said.

He said that the commonest species were black
mamba and carpet viper. He said that the people used to travel to a snake clinic in Zamko, in Langtang Local Government, but there were no more drugs in the facility.

“The drugs are very expensive and purchasing them had been dificult for the proprietor of the clinic because it was always difficult or outrightly impossible for the patients to pay,” he said. Golu advised the federal and statd governments to take over the production of local drugs to help the generally rural populace that had been the victims of the menace. He said that farmers were being advised to use hand gloves and rain boots at the farms to minimise the effect of such bites, but lamented that many hardly heed the counsel. The lawmaker said that some of the victims had often preferred orthodox therapy, but observed that such
therapy had its side effects, with some victims
succeedding and surviving, while others usually die.

Golu asked the federal government to resuscitate the production of anti-snake venom, so as to ensure massive quantities that would be accessible and available to the people.

“The best step will be to get the snakes’ poison from the affected areas, so that the anti-snake venom will work effectively,” he said.
Golu claimed that 26 states were at the risk of snake bites, and called for concerted efforts to rid the society of the reptiles.

Rapper Nicki Minaj to Produce ABC Comedy Series About Her Life

Rapper Nicki Minaj is going to produce an ABC Family series about her life, the network said on Tuesday.

The as-yet-untitled show will follow Minaj’s arrival in the U.S. from Trinidad and Tobago with her family, her experience growing up in Queens in the 1990s and her evolution as a rapper.

“This is one of the more unique adventures I’ve ever embarked on,” said Minaj, who will be executive producer of the series, according to Deadline. “I couldn’t be more proud and excited to team up with an amazing group of people to give the world something really special.”

The show will be written by Sex Tape screenwriter Kate Angelo. The pilot will be filmed this winter. “Nicki Minaj is a force to be reckoned with at everything she touches,” said Karey Burke, ABC Family’s EVP of programming and development. “We’re beyond thrilled to bring her one-of-a-kind story to our channel. Nicki is an international superstar, yet not everyone knows how inspiring and hilarious her true story is, and we can’t wait to share it with the world.”

2016 budget’ll encourage economic diversification – Buhari

President Muhammadu Buhari on Monday promised that the 2016 budget being prepared by his administration would be specially designed to encourage the diversification of the nation’s economy.

He said new policies and measures that would move the economy away from the current dependence on the oil and gas sector would be introduced. The President, however, did not disclose the specific policies and
measures.

According to a statement by his Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, Buhari spoke while receiving the President of the Movement of the Enterprises of France, Mr. Pierre
Gattaz, and a delegation of French investors at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
The President made the disclosure just as the French investors sought assurances from Buhari on the safety of their planned investments in Nigeria Shehu quoted Buhari as saying that policies being evolved by his administration to boost domestic manufacturing and attract greater investment to Nigeria’s agricultural and mining sectors would be given full effect in the 2016 budget.

The President urged Gattaz and the French trade mission, which included over 50 companies with interest in manufacturing, agriculture, infrastructure development and other areas, to return to Nigeria again next year in order to take full advantage of the new
policies. He also assured the French investors that under his leadership, Nigeria would not fall short of international standards in the protection of foreign investments and the repatriation of returns on such investments.

The President agreed that domestic security and the inflow of foreign investment were intrinsically linked. He, therefore, told his guests, whose visit to Nigeria is a follow-up to his recent trip to Paris, that the Federal Government was taking necessary measures to overcome the present security challenges in the country.

Buhari said, “Our government came into office at a time when many people had abandoned the country’s manufacturing, agricultural and mining sectors. “We are doing our best to encourage diversification into these sectors, which can employ a lot of people, and we will welcome your support in this regard.

“Ultimately, reducing unemployment will also help to improve security, because unemployment and insecurity are inseparable.”

The President said Nigeria would welcome more French investments to its power sector because the availability of steady power supply would lead to the reopening of closed factories and the creation of more jobs.

He also assured the delegation that his administration was tackling corruption with vigour in order to ensure greater probity in the management of national resources.

The MEDEF President, who spoke on behalf of the French investors, sought assurances from Buhari on the safety of their planned investments in Nigeria and the easing of bureaucratic bottlenecks.

Coal miners embark on strike

The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), which organised the strike, said last week that it would begin from 1800 local time (1600 GMT). About 30,000 workers could take part.

South African coal miners began a strike on Sunday after wage talks collapsed last week, disrupting the sector that produces the country's electricity and exports coal to Europe and Asia.
The National Union of Mineworkers (NUM), which organised the strike, said last week that it would begin from 1800 local time (1600 GMT). About 30,000 workers could take part.

"The strike has just started. As expected our workers have downed tools," NUM spokesman Livhuwani Mammburu told Reuters.

Two smaller unions which mostly represent skilled workers and supervisors accepted the coal companies' offers last week.NUM's arch rival,
the Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU), has not accepted the offer but its membership levels are small.
The Chamber of Mines, which represents Glencore, Anglo American Coal and Exxaro, said last week that the coal producers had raised their offer to increase wages by up to 8.5 percent for the lowest-paid workers, from 8 percent previously. South Africa's inflation rate is 4.6 percent.

Liverpool Sack Manager, Brendan Rodgers

The Liverpool  Football Club manager, Brendan Rodgers has been sacked. This is coming on the heels of his team’s 1-1 draw against Everton in the Merseyside derby which left them in tenth position and six places away from the top spot.

The former Swansea coach who guided the team to second place two seasons ago, could not re-enact the form that saw Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge mesmerise the Premier League with stunning goals.

A statement released by the club on sunday stated: “We would like to place on record our sincere thanks to Brendan Rodgers for the significant contribution he has made to the club and express our gratitude for his hard work and commitment.

“All of us have experienced some wonderful moments with Brendan as manager and we are confident he will enjoy a long career in the game.
“Although this has been a difficult decision, we believe it provides us with the best opportunity for success on the pitch. Ambition and winning are at the heart of what we want to bring to Liverpool and we believe this change gives us the best opportunity to deliver it.

“The search for a new manager is underway and we hope to make an appointment in a decisive and timely manner.”

Meanwhile, rumours are rife that Jurgen Klopp, the former Borussia Dortmund manager, has signed a three- year deal with the Reds to replace the departed Rodgers.

Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has expressed his sadness with the sudden sack of the former Liverpool boss, stating that he is always sad when any manager is sacked.
“He will get a new club soon,” Wenger added. This news is also coming following reports that 68- year-old Dick Advocaat, has resigned from his position as Sunderland’s manager following his team’s failure to win a match in the EPL this season.

Nigeria is a blessed nation, but we can only make lasting Impact on the world if we appreciate our culture and make our tourist sites attractive to the world.

The Coordinator of Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Otunba Gani Adams, has said that the celebration of Olokun Festival will promote tourism and cultural integration in the country.

Adams, who is also the initiator of Olokun Festival, said that the ceremony was mainly to showcase the cultural values and tradition of the Yoruba.

The coordinator said the celebration had provided an opportunity for prominent people and dignitaries to come to Nigeria from every part of the world.

"Tourists and adventurers annually come from across the globe to Nigeria to witness and see for themselves the beauty inherent in the Yoruba culture.

"As a foremost institution poised to promote the Yoruba culture, Olokun Festival Foundation under my leadership, is determined to set the pace for cultural integration and tourism development in Nigeria.

“Nigeria is a blessed nation, but we can only make lasting impact on the world if we appreciate our culture and make our tourist sites attractive to the world,"

Adams said.

God's dream for creation; The union of a man and woman, Pope says

Pope Francis formally opened the synod of bishops Sunday, telling participants that the union between a man and woman is the foundation of God’s plan for the family, and a solution to the many forms of loneliness in today’s world.

“This is God’s dream for his beloved creation: to see it fulfilled in the loving union between a man and a woman, rejoicing in their shared journey, fruitful in their mutual gift of self,” the Pope said in his opening Mass for the Synod of Bishops.

He explained that this plan is the same one presented in the day’s Gospel for Mark, when Jesus says “From the beginning of creation, ‘God made them male and female.’” “For this reason a man shall leave his father and mother and be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh. So they are no longer two but one flesh.” Pope Francis’ comments were made during his Oct. 4 Mass marking the official opening of this year’s Ordinary Synod of Bishops on the
Family. Set to last from Oct. 4-25, this year’s synod follows the theme

“The vocation and mission of the family in the Church and the modern world,” and follows last year’s extraordinary synod on the family, which focused on pastoral challenges regarding family life. In his homily, Francis noted how the first reading from Genesis, which recounts the story of creation, speaks to us of Adam’s experience of solitude before the creation of Eve.
Although Adam was given dominion over the garden and the other creatures, he “felt alone, because there was not found a helper fit for him. He was lonely.”

The Pope then pointed to several forms of loneliness in modern society, and said that despite living in a globalized world filled with
mansions and skyscrapers, the warmth within families today is diminishing.
While people have great ambitions and many different forms of entertainment, they have little time or freedom to enjoy them, he noted.

“There is a deep and growing interior emptiness,” he said, adding that “the number of people who feel lonely keeps growing, as does the number of those who are caught up in selfishness gloominess, destructive violence and slavery to pleasure and money.”

Like Adam, the world today experiences power but also vulnerability and loneliness, Francis observed, explaining that this fits the image of the modern family.

“People are less and less serious about building a solid and fruitful relationship of love. Love which is lasting, faithful, conscientious, stable and fruitful is increasingly looked down upon, viewed as a quaint relic of the past,” he said.

“It would seem that the most advanced societies are the very ones which have the lowest birth-rates and the highest percentages of abortion, divorce, suicide, and social and environmental pollution.” Pope Francis then noted how God was pained by Adam’s loneliness when he said that “it is not good that the man should be alone,” and created a suitable partner for him. God’s words, the Pope said, “show that God did not create us to live in sorrow or to be alone. He made men and women for happiness, to share their journey with someone who complements them…to love and to be loved, and to see their love bear fruit in children.”

Francis referred to how in the Gospel, Jesus was questioned about divorce by the crowd, who practiced and established it as an “inviolable fact,” and wanted to trap him. Jesus responds in “a straightforward and unexpected way” by bringing everything back to the beginning of creation, he said. By doing this, Jesus teaches us “that God blesses human love, that it is he who joins the hearts of two people who love one another, he who joins them in unity and indissolubility.”

Turning to the role of the family, the Pope said that Jesus’ command to “let not man put asunder” what God himself has joined is an exhortation to believers “to overcome every form of individualism and legalism which conceals a narrow self- centeredness and a fear of accepting the true meaning of the couple and of human sexuality in God’s plan.”

Pope Francis explained that for God, “marriage is not some adolescent utopia, but a dream without which his creatures will be doomed to
solitude! Indeed, being afraid to accept this plan paralyzes the human heart.”

Paradoxically, there are many people who ridicule this plan while continuing to be attracted to true, steadfast and faithful love, he said. “We see people chase after fleeting loves while dreaming of true love; they chase after carnal pleasures but desire total self- giving.”

Quoting a text by Benedict XVI while he was still Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger, Pope Francis said that in Genesis, “forbidden pleasures lost their attraction at the very moment they stopped being forbidden.”
“Even if they are pushed to the extreme and endlessly renewed, they prove dull, for they are finite realities, whereas we thirst for
the infinite, he observed.

Francis then said the Church is called to carry out her mission regarding family life in fidelity, truth and love. In fidelity to her master, the Church is called to defend faithful love and encourage families whose married life reveals of God’s own love, he said.

The Church is also called to defend “the sacredness of life, of every life; in defending the unity and indissolubility of the conjugal bond.”
He said the Church’s mission must be carried out in truth, which doesn’t change with passing fads or popular opinions. Truth, the Pope said, “protects individuals and humanity as a whole from the temptation of self-centeredness and from turning fruitful love into sterile selfishness, faithful union into temporary bonds.”

Finally, Pope Francis said that for the Church to carry out her mission in charity doesn’t mean pointing fingers or judging others, but rather implies being conscious of her duty to seek out and care for wounded couples “with the balm of acceptance and mercy.”

Quoting a speech of St. John Paul II from 1978, the Pope stressed that “error and evil must always be condemned and opposed; but the man who falls or who errs must be understood and loved.” The Church, he said, “must search out these persons, welcome and accompany them, for a Church with closed doors betrays herself
and her mission, and, instead of being a bridge, becomes a roadblock.”

Pope Francis closed his homily by asking the Lord to accompany and guide the Church and the synod fathers during the upcoming discussions, and entrusted the gathering to intercession of Mary and her “most chaste spouse,” St. Joseph.

French floods: 19 feared dead after storms sweep French Riviera

Violent storms and flooding send water cascading through Antibes, Cannes and Nice, inundating a retirement home and killing three people inside

Nineteen people are feared dead after violent storms and severe flooding swept the French Riviera, including three people who drowned in a retirement home after a river broke its banks.
Heavy flooding along the Côte d’Azur on Saturday saw the river Brague burst its banks close to the city of Antibes, flooding a home for elderly people.

The French president, François Hollande, confirmed at least 16 people had died and three were missing. The interior ministry said earlier in the morning there was little hope of finding the missing people alive.

“It’s not over,” Hollande said as he arrived at the flooded retirement home and met emergency service workers. “The toll is not yet finalised. In times like this, we must be fast, efficient and coordinated.” He warned locals to take care on
local roads, which are covered with slippery mud.
At least seven people drowned after their cars became trapped in underground car parks, according to rescue teams in Mandelieu-la Napoule, with the commune’s mayor, Henri
Leroy, warning more bodies may be found. “It’s apocalyptic,” he told Agence France-Presse. “The parking was half-emptied but there are thousands of vehicles. There could be more bodies.”

Three people drowned when their car became stuck in rising waters inside a narrow tunnel near Vallauris Golfe-Juan,authorities said.

A woman in her 60s is reported to have died in the street in Cannes when huge storms hit the region on Saturday. Water and debris coursed down roads in the festival town and in the neighbouring city of Nice. Another victim was found dead at a campsite in Antibes, according to officials.

More than 17cm (6.7in) of rain fell on the Cannes region in two hours, radio France Bleu Azur reported.

Obama declares state of emergency in South Carolina over floods Guardian journalist Stuart Dredge, attending the MIPJunior television conference in Cannes, said the venue for the event had been flooded. He said he had walked knee-deep in water on his way home on Saturday night after watching the England-Australia Rugby World Cup match.

“By half time, the street outside was running with water, and the main Rue d’Antibes road in Cannes was between ankle and knee-deep at its lower points,” he said.
“The crossroads were the most dangerous parts: the water really was pouring down from the higher ground with strong currents – and a fair few people walking home had been drinking, so their balance would have been a bit impaired
already.”

Dredge said he did not see anyone fall into the water, although some moped drivers needed assistance. “This morning, there are a few cars that have clearly been swept along and deposited leaning against railings. When I got home the power was out in my building, but it came back on again shortly before midnight.

“I think Cannes probably got off lightly comparably. It was a hairy walk home, but I didn’t feel in true danger,” he added.

“Some cars were carried off into the sea,” said Cannes’ mayor, David Lisnard, describing water levels reaching halfway up car doors and trees left uprooted on the city’s main street.

“We have rescued a lot of people, and we must now be vigilant against looting,” he added, announcing that an emergency plan to mobilise police, emergency responders and municipal services. British journalist Sarah Kovandzich said she was in Le Crillon bar a few streets back from the seafront when she and her companions saw water running past the door.

“I’ve never seen anything like it in Cannes,” she said. “The water started to seep into the bar, then we were up to our ankles, people were putting their feet up on the chairs. Outside, you could see plant pots and flowers just being carried along the road by the water.” Kovandzich said the walk home was daunting because the flooding had removed manhole covers. “You couldn’t immediately see where the holes might be because of the flowing water.”

The power was out in her apartment and water was dripping through the ceiling, she said.
One social media user compared the scenes in Cannes on Sunday morning to the zombie TV series The Walking Dead ,

posting pictures of several damaged cars.
France’s interior minister, Bernard Cazeneuve, was also due to visit the area on Sunday morning to inspect rescue efforts, his spokesman said.

Hollande thanked rescuers and politicians for their work, praising the “solidarity of the nation” and offering condolences to the victims’ families, while the prime minister, Manuel Valls, spoke of his “deep emotion” on hearing of the deaths.

The Elysée palace announced on Sunday that victims of the flooding will receive help from the state under a French law that gives compensation to victims of natural disasters. A tweet from the president’s office said it would be paid within three months.
The areas worst hit by flooding were also the hardest to access, officials said, raising fears the death toll could rise. About 27,000 homes remained without power early on Sunday, 14,000 of them in Cannes.

French rail company SNCF said about a dozen trains carrying hundreds of people had to be halted for safety reasons, while roads around Antibes were also flooded, according to French emergency services. Train services are still cancelled between Toulon and Nice, a spokesman said on Sunday , adding that further delays are likely. “Campsites are under water, and two helicopters are circling to ensure the public’s security, as some people are stuck on the roof of their caravans,” said a spokeswoman for the fire brigade.

Up to 500 tourists, including several Britons and Danes, sought shelter overnight at Nice airport, while a Nice versus Nantes football match was interrupted by the downpours. French weather forecasters said the worst storms had now
passed over the French mainland and were heading for the Italian coast.

More than 120 people are staying in temporary shelters in Cannes, according to city authorities. Donations for those who have lost belongings in the floods are being organised in an emergency drive by French charity Secours Populaire.
