'It was not a serious issue,' Police says

Following reports of an explosion in a beer parlour along L & K Road, in Oworonsoki area of Lagos, the police has issued an official statement.
Sun Newspaper reports that the Lagos State Commis sioner of Police, Mr Fatai Owoseni however said "it was not a serious issue as people were made to believe. Lagos did not record any explosion today as being erroneously
circulated. Rather it was a minor fire incident that occurred at L&K bus stop Oworo road where a wine shop went up in flames caused by a leaking refrigerator gas cylinder. No causality was recorded."

Adding that “People were just panicking because of the loud bang. We have to quickly deploy Anti Bomb Squad to the Place just to assure the people that we are always ready incase of any eventuality. It was a minor incident. It was not explosive from bomb. The Police have taken over the Place to forestall hoodlums from hijacking the situation to unleash mayhem on innocent citizens. I want everybody not to panic but to go about their normal duties as the Police are always on ground incase of any eventuality. Once again, it was not a bomb explosion but from a refrigerator’s cylinder.”

Top 10 New Artistes Whose Songs Gave Them Fame In 2015

In a year which has been dominated with the rise of many new artistes, it is almost impossible to shorten the list of Songs which ‘blew up’ certain new artistes this year but then this list is close to as perfect as it can get when it comes to mentioning the top 10 songs which blew up this
year from new artistes.

1. Katapot – With the respectable success of Chop Am in 2014, Reekado Banks needed to make a strong statement in 2015 and this song which was alleged to be a beef for Wande Coal and D’Banj with its unique video was the perfect tune to ‘Catapult’ him into the upper echelons of
the Nigerian new school hitmakers.

2. Sade – AdekunleGold of YBNL was shot into the limelight as the 3rd YBNL act to have successfully ‘blown’ in the 2nd quarter of the year with his rendition of Sade, a cover version done on a One Direction song.

3. Awww – Di’Ja Of The Mavin Group dropped this Classic alternative tune which had a unique video and early this year the buzz it got was enough to make her stand out as her own individual and get her much popularity amongst
music lovers.

4. Godwin – A street anthem and one of the few songs in Nigerian history that could be used in any church to praise God as well as (sadly) rocked to in any Club, Godwin was an infectious tune which successfully carved Korede Bello
his own niche in the Music Industry.

5. Woju – A song which had a great buzz within the first quarter of the year, Woju was the song which finally brought G-worldwide’s frontliner Kiss Daniels into the limelight. A remix with Davido and Tiwa Savage further cemented his place up there.

6. Laye – Yet another offering from Kiss Daniels which further showed him not just as a One Hit wonder but as an act that can successfully “mess with the same sound”(Raba pun intended) and create two different hits. These 2 songs shot New School act Kiss Daniels into the
limelight.

7. German Juice – Having already created buzz for herself in 2014 with Don’t Break My Heart , Cynthia Morgan succesfully cemented her place as a force to reckon with in the new school nigerian music industry with this fast paced patois-sung tune and it did her music C.V the best.

8. Jamb Question – The first new female face to be known this year was Simi and although Tiff was her first song this year to give her some buzz, Jamb Question was the final stroke of the racket to win her the points of ‘blowing up’ in the Music industry. With a title that became a
phrase on the lips of the streets, Simi definitely has to thank this tune for her fame this year.

9. Illegal – Pepenazi is a new school artiste who has been behind the scenes for sometime now but this year he released certain songs which started creating some good buzz for him as well as his cameos in most YBNL videos. Low and Fifemayo were starters but Illegal is the tune
which took his name to the streets and finally put him at his highest point in the limelight.

10. Mosquito Killer This tune is easily hated or easily danced to. Pasuma’s prodigy Small Doctor became the rave of the streets especially in Lagos with this anthem and is now one of the recognizable faces of Nigerian New School Music.

Ministerial Nominees Screening Should Be Stopped - Lawyer

Barr. Deji Enisenyin, an Abeokuta-based legal practitioner, has approached a federal high court in the Ogun state capital, seeking to stop the screening of the ministerial nominees of President Muhammadu Buhari by the Senate next week.

In an originating summons in a case, suit number FHC/AB/CS/76/15, filed before the court, the lawyer is asking for a declaration that Bukola Saraki, the Senate president, cannot present for screening the names submitted to him by President Buhari.

The defendants in the case are the Senate president, the president of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, the National Assembly and the attorney general of the federation. They were joined as first, second, third and fourth defendants.

The legal practitioner is also seeking for a declaration that the first defendant cannot consider the names submitted by President Buhari for violating constitutional provisions.

Quoting from sections 147 (1) (6) of the 1999 constitution, the lawmaker said the offices to be held by the nominees were not included in the names forwarded.

Other reliefs, as contained in the summons, a copy of which was obtained by a Naij.com’s correspondent, read:

“An injunction restraining the 1st defendant and other members of the Senate from screening or going ahead with the screening of the names forwarded to the 1st Defendant by 2nd Defendant on the 30th of September, 2015.

“An order restraining the 1st defendant and other members of the Senate from according any recognition whatsoever to the list of names submitted to the Senate President by the 2nd defendant in defiance with the provision of the relevant provisions of the 1999 constitution.

“An order restraining the 2nd defendant from giving any effect to the names submitted by him to the 1st defendant on the 30th of September, 2015, having not complied with the provisions of the 1999 constitution of FRI.

“A declaration that the names of 21 persons forwarded by the 2nd defendant to the 1st defendant on the 30th of September, 2015, without indicating the offices which the nominees are to hold is unconstitutional, ultra vires, null and void.”

In a 15-paragraph affidavit in the support of the motion, the lawyer opined that the Senate can only screen the nominees, when the offices for which they were nominated are forwarded along with their names.

He explained that granting the application would be in the interest of justice as such would not be prejudicial to the defendants.

Meanwhile, on Friday, October 9, all the 21 ministerial nominees got invitations from the Department of State Security Service for ‘security checks’.

The top focus is to check the authenticity of the candidate’s educational background, as President Buhari has reportedly promised to drop those ministerial nominees who present fake certificates.

According to The Nation, Abdulrahman Dambazzau, Amina Mohammed, Audu Ogbeh, Kayode Fayemi, Musa Ibeto, Ogbonnaya Onu, Suleiman Adamu and several other candidates were spotted completing the checks.

Private Universities Became More Avaliable To Nigerians - VC

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has made private universities attractive to more Nigerians, a Vice Chancellor of Lead City University, Ibadan, has said.
The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Vice Chancellor Jide Owoeye expressed delight that the sustained redistribution efforts championed by the Registrar of JAMB, Dibu Ojerinde, had led to the renewed interest of applicants in private universities.
“For the first time, students who normally go to public universities have now been convinced to seek admission into private universities,” the don, who is also the chairman of the university’s governing council, said.
“We now have a lot of students who ordinarily do not think they can afford private universities coming in. There is a lot of ignorance among parents and students because application to JAMB is not application to one choice,” he added.
Owoeye also said that “anyone who has passed and made the cut-off mark can walk into a university, either public or private, and seek for admission.”
“JAMB has made this known to the students,” Owoeye claimed.
He also said Lead City University will soon unveil a scholarship and bursary scheme as part of initiatives to mark its tenth anniversary.
Owoeye, who said the formal inauguration of the scheme would hold during the institution’s graduation ceremony billed for December, added that the initiative was to celebrate “10 years of God’s faithfulness.”
“The reduction in fees as well as the scholarship and bursary we are giving is now offering an opportunity to such students to make a choice here. I can assure you that this is our tenth year and I am not aware of any other university under 10 years that has the infrastructure we have here, be it public or private,” he said.

Exclusive: Ycee The Jagaban Speaks On His Success

In less than a year in the music industry and with just a single, Condo dance hall cum indigenous rapper Ycee got two nominations at the just concluded Nigeria Entertainment Awards (NEA). His second single Jagaban has been nominated for the All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA)  coming up later this year. Ycee visited Naij.com offices recently where he divulged the secret to his success.

When did you start your music career?

Professionally I started music in 2012, between June and July, just before I got signed to my current label. In 2012 I was busy doing underground stuffs like freestyle, mix-tapes and all that. Along the line, my current CEO got some of my music. He listened to it and liked it, and he was just coming into entertainment at that time, so he approached me and said if I was serious about taking music as a career he would sign me on and push the music the way it should be done. Since that was basically what I was looking for at that time, I agreed. Since 2012 to this time, I have released quite a number of singles from Smile At Me Back to Pass Me and other songs. I took time off music when I gained admission into the University of Lagos.

So when did you come back into music?

I came back in 2015 and that made me look like a new entrant in music. I reentered the music industry with a single featuring Patoranking that was released earlier this year. Jagaban is my second single this year.

How did you manage to get Patoranking on your track?

Patoranking is like a brother to me. I have known him for some time now. As at the time the song was being produced, he was in the studio but I wasn’t there so when they started making the song and he heard it, they called me.

Going through the list of nominees at the just concluded NEA awards, I discovered you had two nominations based off of just one single. How did you do it?

I don’t know because it also came as a surprise to me. I think people love my song. When the song came out, it was something different from other collaborations. The song just spoke for itself; people say good music never hides. It got nominated for best collaboration and best video. The video itself, Clarence Peter killed it so I don’t think there was foul play anywhere.

After the NEA awards, you released a new single. Are we to expect another award nomination or awards this time around?

I got nominated for AFRIMA this year, Best Artist For Africa, so basically, that shows that this year has been all about elevation for me because if by the beginning of the year anyone had told me that your single will be doing this good, you will have this level of recognition, I would have found it hard to believe.

What would you say is your style of music, rap or R&B?

Generally, I do rap music; a lot of people know me as a rapper. But those who know me well know I don’t like to limit myself. I do dance hall, afro beat, and depending on my mood sometimes, I could do R&B. Jagaban is like me doing something outside my regular kind of songs. I love to explore, I don’t want to keep myself in a box and say I am a rapper, no.

In Jagaban, you sounded like two great indigenous rappers, Olamide and Phyno, how were you able to combine their style?

Well, I don’t know. When I recorded the song I just recorded it because the producer came up with the beat. With that kind of beat I just had to be aggressive. Judging from the texture of my voice and with the aggression that was in that song a lot of people likened me to Olamide. I am not saying it’s a bad thing, but that my work is being recognized one way or the other. Then Phyno, I think it’s because if the Igbo accent that is why a lot of people want to liken it to his style. Well, it wasn’t intentional. It was how I was feeling that day and the way I attacked the song.

The frustration and condemnation broke guys experience from people (ladies in particular) is synonymous to the way society treat a lunatic but the story changes for such guys when they move from grass to grace as friends, families and even enemies will want to have their share of national cake at all cost.

Their change in level will no doubt attract different category of ladies in which he will be seen as the new cash daddy in town to relief their financial woes but left to him, he will device ways to punish them which are as follows;

1. Wind up and lock his car doors when driving
I was fortunate to be among a group of ladies discussing men issue as one of them aired her annoyance towards a big boy who deliberately wind up and lock his car doors when she approached him for a lift. I cannot hold the laugh bursting from my mouth when I heard her silly story but one thing for sure is that if a guy with keke or okada offer her a lift, she will rain curse on his generation.

2. Dump them after exploring their kitty cat
For a guy who just hit jackpot after hustling, he verges into playboy mechanism by enticing ladies with money, harnessing their kitty cats and dump them like those sewage and refuse at ojota.

3. Treat ladies with disdain Owning to the insult rich dudes have received when they had nothing in the past, they unleash their venom on ladies by embarrassing them on date, speak ill words
during their visit, comparing them to jezebel, and fling them out of their apartment at midnight.

4. Save their numbers with horrible names
I was opportune to have access to my big brother’s phone and when I scrolled through his BBM and whatsapp contacts, I laughed out loud like someone in comedy house because of funny and horrible names like “Chopandquench”, “Thief”, “Gold digger”, etc he used in saving his several chicks.

5. Ignore ladies call
An adage says “where there is money, there is friend”. Once a Lady knows that the story of a broke guy has changed to laughter, she calls frequently which may run his phone battery death as no doubt he will have no choice than to ignore her calls or perhaps deletes her number.

I cannot but shake my head when ladies chase a rich dude in order to get his phone number, BlackBerry PIN and house address of which he may reject instantly. Meanwhile when he was a nobody seeking for their love, they see him
as a nonentity.

7. Stingy to broke and hungry ladies
The encroachment of broke and hungry ladies is more devastating than grasshoppers nesting on a farmland. Immediately a rich dude notice this attitude in a lady, he becomes very stingy in a way to pursue them.

This is an act these category of guys adopt since their feelings was played in the past like football as they use it as payback to ladies by making them fall in love and break their heart afterwards.
