7 Ways to Deal With Negative Thoughts

Most of us spend a lot of time inside our own mind — worrying about the future, replaying events in the past, and generally focusing on the parts of life that leave us dissatisfied. While common, negative or unwanted thoughts can prevent you from enjoying experiences, distract you from focusing on what's important, and drain your energy. They can also make you feel anxious and depressed.

The good news is that with dedicated practice, you can replace negative thinking patterns with thoughts that actually help. This can make a huge difference in your day-to-day happiness and comfort.
Try these 7 ways to manage (and decrease) your negative thoughts:

1. Recognize thought distortions. Our minds have clever and persistent ways of convincing us of something that isn't really true. These inaccurate thoughts reinforce negative thinking. If you can recognize them, you can learn to challenge them. Here are four common thought distortions:
Black and white thinking. Seeing everything as one way or another, without any in between.
Personalizing. Assuming you are to blame for anything that goes wrong, like thinking someone did not smile at you because you did something to upset her. (It's more likely that person is having a hard day and her mood had nothing to do with you.)
Filter thinking. Choosing to see only the negative side of a situation.
Catastrophizing . Assuming the worst possible outcome is going to happen.

2. Challenge negative thoughts. Whenever you have a distorted thought, stop and evaluate whether it is accurate. Think about how you would respond if a friend spoke about herself that way. You would probably offer a good rebuttal to his or her negative view. Apply the same logic to your own thoughts. Ask yourself if you are assuming the worst will happen or blaming yourself for something that has not gone the way you wanted. And then think about other possible outcomes or reasons that something turned out differently than you hoped.

3. Take a break from negative thoughts. It is possible to learn how to separate from negative thoughts. One way to do this is to allow yourself a certain amount of time (maybe five minutes) with the thought. Then take a break from focusing on it and move on with your day.

4. Release judgment. We all judge ourselves and others, usually unconsciously. Constantly comparing ourselves to other people or comparing our lives to some ideal breeds dissatisfaction. When you are able to let go of judgment (not easy, but possible), you will likely feel more at ease. Some ways to take a break from judgmental thoughts include recognizing your own reaction, observing it, and then letting it go. Another helpful technique is to "positive judge." When you notice you are negatively judging a person, yourself, or a situation, look for a positive quality, too.

5. Practice gratitude. Research shows that feeling grateful has a big impact on your levels of positivity and happiness. Even when you are experiencing a challenging time in your life, you can usually find things (even small things) to be grateful for. Noticing the things that are going well and making you feel happy will keep you in touch with them. Keeping a gratitude journal and writing a few things in it every day is one easy and effective way to do this.

6. Focus on your strengths. It's human
nature to dwell on the negative and overlook the positive. The more you can practice focusing on your strengths and not dwelling on mistakes you've made, the easier it will be to feel positive about yourself and the direction your life is taking. If you find yourself thinking harsh thoughts about your personality or actions, take a moment to stop and think about something you like about yourself.

7. Seek out professional support if you are unable to manage your thoughts or find they are interfering with your ability to meet your daily responsibilities or enjoy life. Counseling and therapy can help you weather life changes, reduce emotional suffering and experience self-growth.

NBA star discharged from hospital, heads home with ex-wife

Odom, 35, has been showing slight signs of improvement ever since he came to on Friday, Oct. 16, but a source said he has a long battle ahead of him. Before he opened his eyes and spoke, he'd been unconscious for nearly three full days.

According to Us , the insider said:
"He's still getting better little by little. The doctors are starting to talk about plans for what happens when he gets out and that's how rehab came up, but he still has a ways to go."
Khloe Kardashian and her mother, Kris Jenner , arranged for him to receive further care in L.A., in part "so they can all be closer to him," the source said. He was picked up by helicopter on Monday evening.

"It's all baby steps, very slow. Everything is going very slow," the insider added. "He's talking more. He's very slowly improving. It's going to be a struggle."

The Sixth Man of the Year winner has the support of family and friends including his ex Liza Morales , their kids, Destiny and Lamar Jr. , his ex-teammate Kobe Bryant, and Khloe's many siblings -- ever since he was first hospitalized last week. So he won't be facing it alone.
Khloe, in particular, has hardly left the athlete's side. Though the two split in 2013, they're not yet legally divorced, and the Keeping Up With the Kardashians star has never fully lost touch with her ex.

"Khloe is committed to staying with him," the source said "It's a slow process, but Khloe is there every step of the way...It's all been so draining and emotional."

How Can Stomach Vacuuming Help Build Flat Abs?

Crunches, push-up, squats can require time, effort and determination. However, now everyone’s doing a simpler and safer ab exercise: stomach vacuuming. Let’s have a look at the concept of stomach vacuuming.

WHAT IS STOMACH VACUUMING?
Stomach vacuuming is a breathing exercise, that activates and strengthens the transverse abdominis – your deepest abdominal muscle, by simply contracting it. If you do this right, it can help reduce lower back pain and improve your posture. Known as the “abdominal drawing-in maneuver” in clinical settings, stomach vacuuming isn’t necessarily novel: Because it focuses on breathing mechanics, it’s a pillar of yoga and Pilates.

Work on an empty stomach, while you’re still in bed. Roll onto your back with your knees bent and your feet flat on the mattress. Next, take a deep exhale and pull your belly button in toward your spine. The closer you get, the greater the contraction and intensity. Hold this position for 15 seconds to start, progress and try holding it up to 60 seconds, taking small breaths as needed. Repeat this about three to five times. To make the move harder, try it on your hands and knees, sitting straight up in a chair (No back or arm rests!), or on a Swiss ball.

Once you get a hang of this exercise, you could do it whenever you find time, sitting or standing.
If practiced on a regular basis with a controlled diet and basic workout session, you’ll start seeing and feeling the benefits just in a few weeks!

Kaymu Nigeria launch Zero Rated Data Mobile App

Kaymu Nigeria , an online marketplace has announced a partnership with telecoms giant, MTN Nigeria to launch free data access to its customers using its zero rated mobile data app.
The zero rated mobile app enables Kaymu’s current and prospective buyers and sellers on the MTN network to carry out business activities without incurring any data costs.

“The decision to zero-rate data usage on the Kaymu mobile app is part of our strategic intent of offering a distinct customer experience and enhancing current marketplace community,” Kaymu’s MD, Sefik Bagdadioglu said in a press release made available to TechLoy.

The partnership would further deepen Internet penetration in the country and also ensure customers have access to the over 300 products listed on Kaymu’s marketplace, which is regularly scanned for prohibited products and malicious activities, thereby ensuring the platform is safe for business.

The mobile app is available to Android, Blackberry and iOS smartphone users.
Rocket Internet Group-backed Kaymu, founded in 2013 and known as Nigeria’s equivalent of eBay/Taobao, provides localized customer-to-customer (C2C) and business-to-customer (B2C) products to millions of customers in Africa, Asia and Europe.

Imo, Kebbi, Sokoto: Endless website rebuilding projects

Sokoto, Kebbi and Imo state governments have yet to unveil their new websites months after they commenced upgrading work on them.
Findings on Monday showed that websites of the three state governments were still suspended just as their operators said they were undergoing an upgrading process.

The PUNCH had reported that the Katsina, Sokoto, Imo and Kebbi state governments suspended their official portals to have them rebuilt to meet interactive communication needs of the public.

When our correspondent visited sokotostate.gov.ng , the official site of the Sokoto State Government, on Monday, it was left frozen with a message – “We are working hard to improve our website and we will be ready to launch in one week and three days’ time.”

In September, the same message was found on the blank digital space. Back then, the state government said the reconstruction, which was still in progress on Monday, would take a week and two days.

The Kebbi State Government also announced on its suspended site that it would launch its site soon as what it had were sampled pages of what its developer was working on. As of Monday, the notice was still displayed on the almost-blur portal.

“ Kebbistate.com is dedicated to the development of Kebbi State. We will, work as a team, make Kebbi State greater. Please check back regularly for updates. We hope to help in raising political awareness concerning what it means to be a Kebbian . After all, we are all in this together.

“Together, we can ensure better life for future generations of Kebbians . Equally, you can inform your computer-literate friends and associates to check the website regularly and email us their names and phone numbers, as we embark on a project to compile names, phone numbers and email addresses of all our indigenes, who are passionately and actively working for Kebbi State’s development,” the government noted.

Katsina State Government was among states in the North-West that had earlier put up their sites for reconstruction. As of Monday, its katsina.gov.ng could not be traced on the cyberspace much less viewing its current status. The site may have been taken down after a report on its dormant status.

In the South-East, the Imo State Government, in August, also suspended its domain – imostate.gov.ng – to have it upgraded.
As of Monday evening, a message displayed on the inactive site said it would be unveiled in seven hours’ time.

The state government said it was carrying out some maintenance to improve the performance of the site. It called on interested visitors to drop a message via a dialogue box provided on the demobilised site.

There have not been improvements on the performances of state government-operated digital platforms. From South-West to North-West and South-East to North-East, the story is almost the same. State governments’ platforms are either abandoned completely or not regularly updated.

A few states are, in worse cases, not linked to functional websites. For instance, Kaduna and Zamfara state governments have no functional web presence.

The digital status of the Kaduna State Government, especially, contradicts Governor Nasir el-Rufai’s soaring social media profile.
With 670,000 Twitter followers, el-Rufai is currently the most-followed Nigerian politician on the networking platform. The governor surpasses, for instance, President Muhammadu Buhari’s combined followers on
@NGRPresident and @MBuhri .
On Facebook as well, el-Rufai’s verified account is active and highly-rated in terms of visibility. His Facebook followers are over 500, 000. His just-unveiled official
Twitter page – @GovKaduna – is also gaining relevance by the day; it has over 8,000 users to its credit already.
In the South-South, the Edo State Government also operates an obscure website. Just like Governor Adams Oshiomhole, the state government does not have a page on any social media site. Its website, apart from the historical facts it contains, is rarely updated.
