NNPC Mega Station In Lafia Begins Sale Of Kerosene

The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) mega station in Lafia, Nasarawa State, north central Nigeria, has commenced the sale of Dual Purpose Kerosene (DPK) after over two months of unavailability of the product.

The Station Manager, Zubairu Bala, said that the last time the product was supplied was in November 2015.

He confirmed the increase in price from 50 Naira to 83 Naira per litre, following the removal of subsidy on kerosene by the Federal Government.

Mr Bala appealed to the Federal Government to make the supply of the product constant as the demand is increasing by the day.

While some of their customers appealed that the government should reduce the price of the product to alleviate their sufferings, others said the price is not as important as government making the product available always.

Mr Zubairu gave the assurance that the sale will continue until the available product is finished.

Experts warn Nigerians on abuse of data privacy

The President/Chairman Governing Council of the Institute of Information Management (IIM) Africa, Dr. oyedokun Oyewole, and the chairman Data and Knowledge Information Privacy Protection Initiative(DKIPP), Tokunbo Smith, have warned general public to desist from perpetuating abuse of data privacy in the country.

This in collaboration with other experts drawn from the legal, health, religious, educational and information management and other disciplines, in commemoration of this year’s Data Privacy Day (DPD), unanimously agreed on the need for speedy passage of the Information Privacy Act lying at the the National Assembly for close to a decade.

The Data Privacy Day was made to raise awareness internationally to discuss solutions for, the growing problem of data privacy vulnerabilities.

In his keynote address at the occasion held in Lagos, Oyewole, said it is essential for business leaders and other stakeholders to understand the full risk potential of data privacy threats and how to address these issues.

He recalled that in response to the increasing levels of data breaches and the global importance of privacy and data security, in 2010 the Online Trust Alliance (OTA) and dozens of global organizations embraced Data Privacy Day as Data Privacy & Protection Day, emphasizing the need to look at the long-term impact to consumers’ data collection, use and protection practices.

The IIM-Africa’s Chairman said, “The art of technological advancement is embraced by all nations including developing countries. Today, the world has become a global village where people share information at the same time but in different parts of the world over the internet.

Unfortunately, a developing country like Nigeria venture into such technology without understanding the implications and the legal frameworks under which those technologies function, considering the fast pace at which technology keeps evolving while the legal pace remains predominantly slow.

“In recent years, the number of African countries which have enacted privacy frameworks or are planning data protection laws has vastly increased. Currently, 14 African countries have privacy framework laws and some sort of data protection authorities in place”.

Meanwhile, seven African countries have data protection bills in place: Nigeria, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Niger, Tanzania, and Uganda.

“Nigeria has two Data Protection related bills (one dated 2008 and the other 2010) yet, neither has been passed into law”, he lamented.

Speaking specifically with regards to ‘Issues, Challenges and Opportunities’ in data privacy, the keynote speaker said, “Businesses and their customers’ alike collect, store and transmit vast amounts of information electronically, and they want to believe that this information is secure. At the customer level, the concern for data privacy should stimulate laws and regulations aimed at addressing those issues including what information can be collected and maintained, how the information should be stored, how and where information can be transmitted, and required actions in the event of a security breach.

5 Ways to Be a Good Husband

Ways to Be a Good Husband

A lot of women complain how good husbands are a myth. Women always think that they are the ones who compromise and make effort in a marriage. Perhaps these generalizations affect the way people react to one another a lot. To make sure you wife doesn’t say this, a few practical steps can be taken. You do not have to shower her with rose petals every morning or give her massages to make sure she says that. Just do a few of the following, and watch the magic:
  1. Give her a love session every day.

This is perhaps my secret way to maintain a healthy relationship. No matter how busy or occupied the two of you are, take out at least 15-20 minutes for each other every day. It could be any time of the day. I prefer it before sleeping though. Spend time with your wife. Give her all your attention. Talk to her, hear about her day and pamper her. When she goes to sleep happy, she will have an even better day in the morning.

  1. Let go of fights and arguments.

My father used to say that if a married couple tell you that they do not fight, they are lying. When two people are together, it is impossible for them to stay so without disagreeing over something. There are always conflicts and arguments. This does not mean that the two people keep fighting and screaming at each other all the time. However, a normal level of fights are okay as long as you let go of them. Do not keep grudges in your heart and do not say hurtful things to each other while you are angry. This makes you a good husband and keeps the marriage healthy.

  1. Do not bring your work matters to home.

Some men carry all their work load home. They consider it an obligation to remind their wives of the hard work they do all day long. Along with that, the bad moods that come with the work, such as issues with other colleagues or the bosses, come back home too. To be a good husband, keep a check on that. When you come back home, come in a good mood. Even if you are mad, put that face aside. You can rant to your wife later, but when she hasn’t seen you the whole day, she wants to see you with smile at least.

  1. Pay attention to her issues.

Whether she stays at home or goes to work, you have to listen to her. She wants to tell you about her day. She wants to discuss her activities with you. Most men tend to assume that if she is a house wife, she will not have anything interesting to say. They get annoyed at their milkman or laundry stories. A good husband will not care about whether his wife was at an interesting warzone, or at home – he will just want to hear her out to make her feel wanted.

  1. Give her an equal share of the house affairs.

Some men tend to divide the house affairs assuming that the cleanliness affairs go to her while the finances stay with him. If you want to be a good husband, keep her informed of all the matters at home. Keep her informed about how you are paying the bills, what are you saving and how are the other activities of the house carried out. Most women only know that they have to call their husbands during sanitation problems or when they need a carpenter, because the husband maintains such contacts. Do not force her to do such jobs – if she doesn’t want to – but at least keep her well informed about how these things work.
