FG probes 11,000 ghost workers

Minister of Finance, Kemi Adeosun yesterday revealed that 11,000 potential ghost workers have been identified in the payroll of the Federal government and are now being investigated. Adeosun made the disclosure while speaking to state house correspondents after the Federal Executive Counsil meeting in Abuja.

According to Adeosun, this disclosure was made possible by the routine audit of all ministries, agencies and parastatals ordered by President Buhari.

This discovery comes after 23,000 ghost workers were discovered in February, saving the Federal government N2.29 Billion in salary
"On the issue of the ghost workers, of the 23,000 that we have removed from our payroll, we are now investigating another potential 11,000. Again we are using computer techniques to identify those who we need to investigate, so we are now looking at the second batch and as we resolve those cases we would inform you of the amount saved and the number of people removed”she said

Leaked: Names, addresses, family details of 22,000 ISIS members plus date of birth and next of kin

In what could be the biggest breakthrough in the fight against Terrorism, a cache of documents containing the personal information of 22,000 ISIS jihadists in Syria and Iraq has been retrieved by U.K intelligence chiefs after a disgruntled recruit stole the memory card of ISIS' leader.

In the documents, names, nationalities, addresses, telephone numbers, family contacts and even blood type of 22,000 recruits are found and also contains the details of at least 16 British fighters, including Birmingham hacker Junaid Hussain and Cardiff-born Reyaad Khan and British rapper Abdel Bary, a 26-year-old from London who joined ISIS in 2013 after visiting Libya, Egypt and Turkey.

Intelligence experts believe this is the biggest ISIS intelligence haul uncovered since the war against the terrorist group started.

Agency destroys expired raw materials of Guinness Nigeria

The National Agency For Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC) on Wednesday destroyed expired malt extract and glucose belonging to Guinness Nigeria Plc.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the destruction took place at a dump site at Otta, Ogun. A NAFDAC staff on site, who preferred anonymity, said, "this is a case which has been concluded."
Guinness has been given permission to destroy the expired raw materials belonging to them while we supervise.
"We have two products, the malt extracts in drums and glucose in packs. We have worked for three days and I still see us working till the next one week On the first day, we had a simulation test with a truck of each of the materials to see how the process would go.’’
On the quantity of raw materials to be destroyed, the staff said "each truck has 18 bags for the glucose and another truck of 72 drums of malt extract. We destroyed five trucks of malt extract yesterday, with each containing 72 drums of malt extract and 10 trailers of glucose with each containing 18 bags.
Today, we are here with five trucks of the drums of malt extract and 10 trailers of the bags of glucose and we have about 2,600 of the drums. Mr Ernest Abu, Manager at Guinness said "the exercise is based on a resolution between NAFDAC and Guinness. I am only on ground to ensure that the destruction goes according to acceptable safety standards.’’
NAFDAC had on Nov. 9, 2015, written a letter on 'Payment of Administrative Charges for Various Clandestine Violations’ to the Managing Director of Guinness Nigeria Plc.
The agency stated that the company had been involved in clandestine violations contrary to the rules, regulations and enactments of NAFDAC and consequently fined Guinness one billion naira.
The fine was for administrative charges for all the destruction carried out by the company without authorization and supervision of NAFDAC. The letter said some of the regulatory infractions included, "All the revalidation of expired products without authorisation and supervision of the agency.
It also included the "failure to secure the gates of the warehouse as it is permanently opened to intrusion and exposure to the elements and rodents which invariably affect the integrity of Guinness’ raw materials.
Others were the poor documentation record and noncompliance with conditions contained in the certificate of the re-validated malt extract. This required the storage of the items in cool and dry place and elimination of exposure to sunlight.
In view of the above, NAFDAC mandated Guinness to disclose all warehouses in the country and submit inventory level of the stock.
Other included the submission of a written voluntary consent of forfeiture for destruction of the expired and re-validated raw materials discovered in the warehouse. Also, the submission of a notarised undertaking to comply with all the guidelines, rules, regulations and enactments of the agency and to refrain from any future violations was required.
A source at NAFDAC had told NAN that the Investigation and Enforcement Directorate of NAFDAC had gone on site to inspect the warehouse in question and discovered acts that violated NAFDAC’s mandate.
The company was subsequently fined and told to comply within two weeks of receipt of the letter sent to them.
However, an investigation by NAN had revealed that the packs of most of the raw material in the warehouse inspected by NAFDAC were covered by dust and some of the packs of sugar were torn and open.
Some blue barrels of the malt extract had expired best before/due dates of 04/2015 and 06/2015 while some barrels had white papers on them with an `extend to’ dates that were not approved by NAFDAC. In reaction, management of Guinness Nigeria had issued a release saying that they were not aware of their infringements.
"The management of Guinness Nigeria does not fully understand the basis for the computation of the administrative charges or the particular regulations alleged to have been infringed.
"We are in discussions with NAFDAC with a view to gaining better clarity on the issue and hopefully have it resolved. We remain committed to working with NAFDAC and other regulatory authorities. This is in furtherance of our responsibility to produce and market quality products and look forward to being able to resolve the issue working in partnership with NAFDAC’’, the statement had said.

Late Minister James Ocholi’s Driver Faces Prosecution

James Ocholi
James Ocholi’s driver faces prosecution – The driver of the late Minister of State for Labour, James Ocholi may face prosecution for his role in the fatal accident, according to Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) Babachir David.

James Ocholi’s driver faces prosecution: The car after the accident
The FRSC had revealed that the driver, James Elegbede, didn’t have a valid driver’s license, and David stated that his fate would be determined after the FRSC submitted its final report.

“As to the issue of whether we would prosecute the driver, yes, Nigeria is not short of laws; the problem is that Nigerians find it very difficult to obey the laws,” David said in a statement.
“There is a speed limit in place and so if anybody chooses not to obey the traffic laws, of course, it is subject to prosecution by the agencies concerned. But as to this particular incident, I think we will leave it until the final report of the investigation comes out.
The SGF also addressed reports made by Ocholi’s uncle that there may have be foul play involved in Ocholi’s death.
He added: “But, of course, as we say, accident is accident and nobody goes out deliberately to summersault and die, but as to allegations you claimed from the family, we are not aware and anybody who has anything to the contrary – that they didn’t die in an accident – is free to report to the law enforcement agencies who will appropriately take it up.”
He also revealed that the Ocholi’s surviving children had been given automatic employment, following the loss of their parents.

“The government decided to give employment to the children of the late minister because he was the breadwinner and the children are now orphans. On the other hand, the driver survived and the government is taking care of their medical bills at the National Hospital and they are also government workers as some of them are policemen, SSS operatives and others.
“So they are on salary and are treated free, but God forbids that had any of them suffered the same fate as those who died, the President would have willingly included them on the list of beneficiaries,” Lawal said.

The former military Head of State, Gen. Yakubu Gowon, retd has finally admitted to fathering a child with the late public relations expert, Princess Edith Ike Okongwu, courtesy a DNA test.

According to Vanguard Newspaper, Gowon, upon the report of a conclusive DNA test, acknowledged that he was the Father of Musa, who returned to Nigeria last year ending, after spending about 23 years in a United States prison.

In the 60s, Gowon and Okongwu were very close friends, however, there was a legal dispute concerning the paternity of Musa which dragged all the way to the Supreme Court in which Okongwu won.
The victory was, however, short-lived following the arrest of Musa by United States law enforcement officials in Dallas on the charge of importing heroin into that country.
The young Musa was sentenced to 27 years in prison and was only released last November on compassionate ground and good behaviour.
On Wednesday, in an acknowledgment statement issued by Gen. Gowon on Musa, he said:
“Following years of doubts and speculation, a DNA test was recently conducted to ascertain the paternity of Musa Gowon, who recently returned to the country.
”The results of the tests were conclusive, and they confirm his paternity. We, the family, are working to assist in his rehabilitation following a very difficult period in his life.
”As we look forward to the future with faith in God, we request that our privacy be respected.”
