Even if I have to leave the Presidency tomorrow, I want Nigerians to remember that I respect them- Buhari

President Buhari today said even if he leaves office tomorrow, he wants Nigerians to remember him as a leader who respected them. Buhari said this while speaking at the National Economic Committee meeting of APC in Abuja today March 24th. Buhari made the remark while speaking on the recent acts of violence during some elections particularly that of Rivers state where 7 people including a corps member was killed ;

“Of course, the leadership of INEC has been changed, but I appeal to the leadership of the military, security agents and INEC that what I want Nigerians to remember me for, even if I have to leave the Presidency tomorrow is that I respect them. I want all Nigerians to believe and hold their PVC as personal entitlement as Nigerians and use it the way the like, and vote for whoever they like at which ever election. If they voluntarily sold it, it is part of their right and so, let them sell it and remain at home and not participate in any election. But let the law enforcement agencies give them the confidence that nobody will come out and stop them from exercising their fundamental right. I think that more Nigerians are killed or killed themselves in Rivers than in any particular state. At this stage of our political development, to remain brutal is shameful and as a government, I promise we will do something by the next general election.”he said

Girls Trip
easter_travel_001_360nobs
Are you and your girls going on a fun weekend? Maybe to another city or even out of the country? Well first thing you need is money and a lot if it. When it comes to clothes you need to think about where exactly you’ll be going and make selections based on that. If you will end up partying all through, get club dresses and shoes; block heels are my personal pick for a wild night out.

Baecation (Vacation with Bae )
easter_travel_004_360nobs
If you and your beau decide to spend some private time this break you need some essentials. You could just get a suite and spend the weekend there or you could travel and have a look around a new city. Either ways you will need a wax before time and if you don’t have sexy night wears and underwear you should go shopping and get protection too. If you can book a couple spa day or select an exciting restaurant for dinner, you should surprise bae with that.

Seeing the family
easter_travel_007_360nobs
With work every other day you might finally be chanced to see the family over the holidays. No one should go home empty handed. If your family stays in another city or country be ready to shop and go home baring gifts. Also try and pack decent clothes for outing with your parents and something really nice for church.

Solo Trip

You might just be tired of everything and actually want to relax by yourself this break. No judgements here; just be sure to pack smartly, if you can’t afford an exotic trip abroad you can visit any state in Nigeria. Calabar is a great place to visit with great food and tourist attraction. While travelling be sure to have money on you and in your credit/debit card. Your luggage should be as smart as possible, and you need to take your toiletries, basic round neck, pair of jeans and a camera (If you have one).

Event Trip

Empower women and you empower the world, Vatican tells UN

Credit: UnSplash.

If diplomacy and policy-making are to be successful, all women – including those who are often left out of the conversation – must have a voice in the process, a Holy See representative told the United Nations.

“Empowering women means creating the conditions necessary for them to flourish, in full acceptance of and in accordance with their natural genius as women, and in harmonious complementarity with the gifts of men,” Archbishop Bernardito Auza, Permanent Observer of the Holy See to the United Nations, said March 18.
“Empowering women and girls will greatly help the world community not to leave anyone behind, and their empowerment will empower us all,” he said.

He gave his remarks during the deliberations of the 60th Session of the Commission on the Status of Women of the United Nations. This session's focus was “Women's Empowerment and the Link to Sustainable Development.”

Archbishop Auza focused on the idea that “no one will be left behind” as found in the commitment of the Member States in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

Women, he said, must be recognized for their "vital role ... in preventive diplomacy, mediation, peacekeeping and peace-building processes, as well as their growing presence in policy-making bodies and advocacy groups."

However, elderly women, mothers, and pre-born girls, the archbishop said, are especially vulnerable to sex-based discrimination.

Instead of being seen as critical policy priorities, elderly women's needs are frequently overlooked leading these women to feel “unwanted and, in some cases, leaving them vulnerable to the pressures of assisted suicide.”

“An exaggerated focus on economic productivity and the decline of family values are leaving elderly women even farther behind,” he said.
Elderly women should be made to “feel welcome and productive in their own way” by making their wisdom available for the whole of society, Archbishop Auza said.

In a similar way, he said, mothers face discrimination when their “essential contribution to the development of society through motherhood is not adequately acknowledged, appreciated, advanced and defended.” This prejudice, oftentimes by way of cultural and legal pressures, forces women to choose between a career and motherhood.

On behalf of his delegation, Archbishop Auza said he wanted to thank “all women who have raised generations of responsible daughters and sons.”
Girls in the womb also face discrimination, even before they have the chance to be born.
Abortion and in-vitro fertilization have been used to “selectively eliminate girls, leading to unnatural sex-ratio-at-birth disparities” causing a deficit of more than 160 million girls compared to boys, he said.

After addressing the concerns of these groups of women, Archbishop Auza emphasized the importance of ensuring access to education and healthcare for women and girls, which he called indispensable.

He pointed out that the Catholic Church, “through its vast network of 250,000 schools, 23,500 clinics and hospitals, 16,000 homes for the elderly and those with special needs,” the majority of which are located in developing nations and areas of conflict, is the “largest education and health provider in the world.”

Women’s healthcare must be provided “in accord with their feminine humanity and dignity,” he said, adding that it “would be contradictory to seek to empower women while suppressing their natural potentialities.”

Women in need should not only be the beneficiaries of aid, but they should "above all ... be empowered to become dignified agents of their own development and important drivers of sustainable development."

$2.1b Arms Deals: Anxiety In Jonathan’s Camp Over Likely Arrest Of More Suspects

There is unease in the camp of ex-President Goodluck Jonathan following fears of more arrests of suspects over the $2.1billion phoney arms deals.

There were indications last night that more former Ministers in Jonathan’s cabinet and some former public officers might be picked up by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
The EFCC has also traced more than N8billion curious withdrawals from the Central Bank of Nigeria to Villa Coded account tagged Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) Research Library.
About N3.425billion of the N8billion was withdrawn for “special purposes” after the 2015 presidential election.
Investigation by our correspondent revealed that the anti-graft agency might arrest more suspects over the mismanagement of arms funds because of fresh clues.
It was learnt that some of the suspects, who have “sneaked out” of the country, might be declared wanted.
One of the affected ex-public officers is alleged to have used the arms cash to rent an apartment in posh Asokoro District in Abuja for his girlfriend at N26million per year.
The said officer was alleged to have paid N78million for three years, besides the agency fee.
A source, who spoke in confidence, said: “The ongoing investigation has led to the uncovering of looting of funds meant for arms procurement.
“Some ex-ministers in ex-President Jonathan’s cabinet and a few public officers will certainly be arrested to explain their roles in the alleged diversion of the funds.
“Both the Presidential Committee on Procurement in the Armed Forces and the EFCC are collaborating on these latest cases.
“One of the former office holders under probe allegedly blew N78million to rent an apartment in Asokoro District for his girlfriend/ mistress at N26million per annum. We have located the house; we will soon interact with the landlord.”
It was also gathered that one of the breakthroughs of the EFCC is how over N8billion was withdrawn from the CBN through Villa Coded Account for political patronage under “special purposes”.
About N3.425billion of the N8billion was blown on suspicious purposes after the 2015 presidential election.
The breakdown of withdrawals is as follows:
  • N2,683, 620, 263.00 released on March 30, 2015 to MEA Research Library
  • From ONSA Account Number 1014199287, about N350million was remitted  to African Cable Television Limited on April 17, 2015;
  • N392, 428, 880 debited Account number 0142861012 for transfer to MEA Research Library on May 6, 2015
  • N5,554, 332, 420.04 withdrawn from CBN on  February 3, 2014 through account 0142861012 for MEA Research Library
  • N18.066million transferred to MEA Research Library Account 0020142861012 on July 21, 2014 for security operation for Osun election
Another source said: “Even from the outset, the payment schedule was strange. The nation has only Ministry of Foreign Affairs. The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) was last used by the Federal Government during the military era, which ended on May 29, 1999.
“So, we will unmask those behind the operation of the Presidential Villa Coded Account and the beneficiaries of these funds.”
There was however unease in Jonathan’s camp following the decision of most of the suspects to hide under the guise of acting on the “instructions of the ex-President”.
A source in Jonathan’s camp said: “Some loyalists of Jonathan are of the opinion that all those invited by the EFCC should go and account for their activities in office.
“The suspects said they either acted on Jonathan’s instructions or ran errands for him. They said they cannot be held accountable for the directives of the Commander-In-Chief.
“But Jonathan has maintained silence and I think he is waiting for the right time to talk after the Presidential Committee and EFCC might have completed their investigations.
”As a matter of fact, one of the ex-ministers implicated in the arms deals in ONSA has been advised by the ex-President to return to respond to enquiries from the EFCC.”

Brussels Attacks Update: Status Of Two Attackers Unknown

Belgian authorities have reported that the status of two of the five terrorists responsible for Tuesday’s attacks remains unknown.

Two terrorists bombed the metro station on Tuesday, which claimed at least 20 victims. Khalid el-Bakraoui died in the suicide attack, but authorities believe a second man was involved in the blast.
Surveillance footage shows a man holding a large bag at the station, but it is unclear as to whether or not he was among the 20 killed in that explosion or if he remains at large.
Najim Laachraoui and Ibrahim el-Bakraoui, who were behind the Brussels airport attack that killed 11 people, have been confirmed dead. However, a third unidentified suspect is believed to be at large. His image was captured using video surveillance, but the picture is too grainy to ascertain his identity.
Authorities have reported that the el-Bakraoui brothers helped plan the Paris attacks that killed 130 people last November. One of the brothers reportedly rented an apartment belonging to Salah Abdeslam, who was arrested on March 18 in Brussels for his involvement in the Paris attacks.
Najim Laachraoui, the suspected bomb-maker and an alleged Islamic State recruiter, was also linked to the Paris attacks. His DNA was found on explosives belts in Paris and at a Brussels apartment used as a safe house for the late Salah Abdeslam.
A senior Belgian counterterrorism official suspects that Abdeslam would have taken part in the Brussels attacks had he not been arrested just days before.

NEMA DG Calls For More Medical Personnel In IDP Camps

The Director General of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Sani Sidi, has called for an increase in medical personnel at internally displaced persons (IDP) camps in the northeast.

Mr. Sidi made the announcement after leading a team of health policy specialists and clinicians in health needs assessments and strategy appraisals at IDP camps throughout Maiduguri, Borno State.
The Director General observed that Bakasi camp, which accommodates 11,819 IDPs, had recorded 27 new births as well as 3,393 outpatient consultations in the month of February, but currently has only one medical doctor and a few health professionals the ground.
He appealed to volunteer doctors who are willing to be deployed to camps in liberated communities to come forward and join the doctors on the ground, promising that adequate security and incentives would be provided.
The Director General noted that medical supplies and medications are also needed at the camps.
Common health problems identified in some of the IDP camps include hypertension, diabetes mellitus, eye problems, malaria, peptic ulcer disease, and malnutrition.
