Rihanna's new album goes platinum just one day after release but Billboard mag won't recongnize it!

Rihanna released her new album 'Anti' this week, first on Tidal and then on iTunes. And yesterday the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified it with Platinum status...but Billboard magazine refused to recognize the platinum status.

And here's why. As part of a $25million deal with Samsung, Anti became available as a free download on Jay Z's Tidal this week, making it to go platinum instantly...

The free download is the reason Billboard isn't interested. A Billboard spokesperson tells Digital Trends,

“Billboard has a well documented policy of not counting free albums towards the charts.”
Physical copies of the album will go on sale Feb 5th.

ELDEE DA DON STORMS NIGERIA

It seems YBNL boss, Olamide’s wish will be granted after he publicly announced that he badly wished to have a song with singer, Eldee Da Don, who had announced some months back that he is retiring from music.

Eldee had long ego left the shores of the country to stay with his family abroad while pursuing other business but he never stopped hopping on some beats once a while.

Now the singer is back to the country as he has been gracing some interview programmes while friends have been coming around to meet with him.

With his presence in the country, he might want to honour Olamide’s request while Young John the wicked producer will have to cook up some nice beats to sooth Eldee.

NEMA confirms 4 dead in another Lagos boat mishap

The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) says four passengers lost their lives in another boat mishap in Lagos on Saturday morning.

According to NEMA, the accident occurred at Badore in Eti-Osa Local Government Area of the state at about 10.00 a.m.

The South-West spokesman for the agency, Mr Ibrahim Farinloye, disclosed this on Saturday in a statement obtained by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

He, however, said 13 passengers were rescued.

He said the boat with 17 passengers on board capsized at Badore.
“The incident occurred at about 10.00 this morning.

“The boat with 17 people on board which was coming from Ijede capsized at Badore.

“Four people died while 13 others were rescued,’’ he said.

Dr Bandele Onimode, the South-West Zonal Coordinator of the agency, also confirmed that 13 passengers were rescued with help from some agencies.

Onimole lauded the Lagos State Waterways Authority, National Inland Waterways Authority, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency and Marine Police for the rescue efforts.

Boko Haram terrorists now disguise as mad people – DHQ

Colonel Rabe Abubakar has warned Nigerians of new Boko Haram tactics.

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has warned Nigerians that Boko Haram terrorists are now using a new tactic in launching successful suicide bombings in the country.

According to a statement made by Brigadier General Rabe Abubakar, the DHQ spokesperson, on Saturday, January 30, the militants have now switched to disguising as mad people to infiltrate locations.

“It has come to the notice of the Defence Headquarters that Boko Haram, in their desperation to cause colossal havoc, have now devised a new method where they dress like mad persons to gain unsuspecting access to public areas to detonate bombs.

“The two male suicide bombers, dressed like mad women and carried out suicide bomb attack in Gombi , Adamawa State, is instructive in this direction. Five people lost their lives and several others were wounded in the heinous attack by these ungodly people.

“The Defence Headquarters therefore urges our fellow good citizens across the country to be wary of mad persons approaching markets, public places or crowded areas so as to nip this ugly trend in the bud,” the statement read in part.

Abubakar called on Nigerians to be security conscious at all times and report any suspicious person or object to security agencies for prompt action.

Earlier this month, the DHQ warned people that Boko Haram insurgents hide explosive devices in fruits and vegetables which they hawk in carts and wheelbarrows in markets and crowded places in the northeast.

According to the military, the aim of the terrorists is to disguise as fruits and vegetable vendors to gain ample room to detonate the explosives.

Nigeria to benefit from $200bn foreign investment

A group of international investors, under the aegis of Greenstone Capital International Africa and Tacnero Global, have disclosed plans to invest $200bn in five African countries, including Nigeria.

The group’s legal adviser, Greg Anumenechi, said in a statement on Thursday that the investors’ target sectors were agriculture, aviation, medicals, solid minerals, marine, power and petroleum.

According to him, the investment plan tagged: AMPLE, will also be extended into real estate, industrial, Information Technology, parks, education and the development of Nigeria’s version of the Silicon Valley.

To benefit alongside Nigeria in the $200bn investment plan are Ghana, Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia and South Africa.

Anumenechi explained that the foreign investors planned to warehouse the bulk of the fund in a consortium of banks as proof of funds for government-related concession capital projects in Nigeria.

Already, he said the investors had succeeded in getting the approval for a Silicon Valley university in Lagos State, adding that they were also investing in the development of alternative energy for the entire country in addition to building an ultra-modern modular refinery for oil and gas development.

Anumenechi said, “It is expected that the injection of such massive funds into Nigeria and the other African countries for business development will generate over two million employment opportunities in Africa, with Nigeria taking the chunk because of its enormous potential.

“Some of the projects already earmarked and approved for Nigeria include the construction of massive housing schemes in Festac and Ibeju-Lekki areas of Lagos; agriculture development projects in Osun and Ogun states; an international airline and a world-class pharmaceutical industry also in Osun State.”

Concern as Zika virus spreads alarmingly

There are currently 31 people in the U.S. who have been diagnosed with the Zika virus, including three pregnant women – two in Illinois and one in New York.

Those infected are spread across 11 states and Washington, D.C., according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. All of those infected contracted the virus outside of the U.S. before returning, according to health officials.

Another woman in Hawaii is believed to have had the Zika virus after her infant was born with the associated birth defect called microcephaly – characterised by an abnormally small head and brain, which can lead to developmental delays. The birth defect has been associated with the virus in Brazil, where more than 4,000 children have been diagnosed with the condition.

Houston Woman Recounts Zika Infection
A Houston woman described what it was like to be infected with the Zika virus during a trip to El Salvador over Christmas.

Lizzie Morales told ABC’s Houston station KTRK-TV that she spent a week experiencing the extreme fatigue, nausea and a large rash that covered her body.

“You have no strength or energy to sit down. You just want to lay down and sleep,” she told KTRK-TV.
Morales said she had fatigue for a week and nausea towards the end of her virus.

“Christmas Eve, I was scratching. My chest, bumps on my lips, eyes, ears,” she said.

Origin of Zika Virus Outbreak in Brazil May Be Linked to Major Sporting Events
Scientists have traced the Zika virus spreading through the Western Hemisphere to a strain from French Polynesia. The virus was first confirmed in this hemisphere in Brazil last May, but quickly spread leading to more than 1 million estimated cases in Brazil by the end of 2015.

In a research paper, scientists said the outbreak might have been linked to major sporting events that brought together thousands of people across the globe to Brazil. This revelation raises concern over the safety of athletes at the forthcoming Olympics game scheduled to hold this year in Brazil.

“It is very likely an infected traveler from French Polynesia that traveled to Brazil was likely the source of the Brazilian invasion,” Dr. Peter Armbruster, professor of biology at Georgetown University, who was not involved in that study, told ABC News. “Whether it is someone associated with the [World Cup], we do not know for sure.”

Where Is the Zika Virus Outbreak Happening?
The virus has been reported in Africa, South Asia and Polynesia but now it’s also being found in Central and South America.

An outbreak of the disease in Brazil lead to an alert by the Pan American Health Organisation last May. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have issued a travel alert for 24 countries and territories where the virus transmission is ongoing.

Those countries and territories are: Brazil, Colombia, El Salvador, French Guiana, Guatemala, Haiti, Honduras, Martinique, Mexico, Panama, Paraguay, Suriname, Venezuela, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands, Dominican Republic, Barbados, Bolivia, Ecuador, Guadeloupe, Saint Martin, Guyana, Cape Verde and Samoa.

What Does the Virus Do?
Common symptoms of the Zika virus include fever, rash, joint pain and conjunctivitis, according to the CDC. Approximately one in five people infected with the virus show symptoms. Severe complications from the virus that require hospitalisation are rare, according to the CDC.

The virus has also been associated with a rise of microcephaly birth defect cases.

The CDC is also investigating if a rare paralysis syndrome called Guillain-Barre is related to the virus. The syndrome is an immunological reaction that can also occur after other viral or bacterial infections.

Virus Spreading Explosively
The Zika virus is “spreading explosively” in the Americas, the head of the World Health Organisation (WHO) said Thursday, as the global health body warned that it expected up to four million cases of the disease.

WHO chief Margaret Chan called for an emergency meeting on February 1 on the outbreak of the virus, which has been blamed for the birth defect microcephaly, a condition that causes babies to be born with an abnormally small head.

“The level of alarm is extremely high,” Chan said, adding that the meeting of WHO’s Emergency Committee on Monday will seek to determine if the outbreak qualifies as an international public health emergency.

The virus “is now spreading explosively,” in the Americas, where 23 countries and territories have reported cases, the WHO chief said.
Marcos Espinal, the head of communicable diseases and health analysis at the WHO’s Americas office, said the region should expect “three to four million cases” of Zika, without proving a timeframe for the outbreak to ramp up to that level.

Following its initial discovery in a monkey in Uganda’s Zika forest in 1947, the disease “slumbered” and “occasionally caused a mild disease of low concern,” in humans, Chan said.

“The situation today is dramatically different.”

Chan highlighted the growing concern over Zika’s possible link to microcephaly and a neurological disorder called Guillain-Barre syndrome.

“A causal relationship between Zika virus infection and birth malformations and neurological syndromes has not yet been established, but is strongly suspected,” Chan said.

The emergency meeting will seek advice on the severity of the outbreak and what response measures might be taken.

It will also aim to identify priority areas for urgent research, Chan said, after US President Barack Obama called for swift action, including better diagnostic tests as well as the development of vaccines and treatments.

Espinal warned that Zika “will go everywhere the mosquito is.”
“We should assume that. We should not wait for it to spread,” he said.

Drawing a contrast with Ebola, Espinal stressed that Zika needs a carrier to spread and that controlling the mosquito was therefore crucial to controlling the outbreak.

WHO has previously said that it expects Zika to spread to every country in the Americas except Canada and Chile.

Brazil has been the country hardest hit so far, and concerns are growing about this summer’s Olympics, which is likely to attract hundreds of thousands of visitors to host city Rio de Janeiro in August.

Zika originated in Africa and also exists in Asia and the Pacific, but has not been associated with microcephaly there. It first came to prominence in Brazil in October.
Microcephaly can cause brain damage or death in babies.

In Brazil, cases of microcephaly have surged from 163 a year on average to more than 3,718 suspected cases since the outbreak, according to the health ministry.

Colombia, Ecuador, El Salvador and Jamaica have warned women to avoid getting pregnant for the time being.

Easy Ways To Make Your Shoes More Comfortable

Follow these simple steps to DIY your way to more comfortable shoes and say bye-bye to blisters

THERE’S nothing quite like a new pair of shoes! That is, until you spend half a day in them and find yourself slipping all over the place, aching and blistered. We’ve got three simple tricks to wear your shoes in quickly, so you’ll be fashionably comfortable in no time.

Expand The Toe With Ice
There’s no need to head to the shoemaker when the toes of your leather shoes are too tight. All you need is ice. As the freezing water expands, so will your shoes.

Materials you need: Ziploc baggie, leather shoe and water

. Pour about 1 ½ cups of water into a Ziploc baggie and seal it up.

. Drop a corner of the plastic bag into the toe of your shoe, so that the toe is filled with water.

. Place the shoe with the baggie full of water into the freezer and leave it overnight.

. When the water is frozen, remove the plastic bag from the toe of the shoe and dry off the shoe if damp.

. Place the shoe on your foot while it is still cold, and let the warmth of your foot shape the shoe as it dries.

Create No-slip Soles
The sole of a new leather shoe can often be a slippery one. Here’s a way to get a grip, quickly.

Materials you need: Sandpaper and shoe

. Scuff up the soles of your new shoes with sandpaper to create a rough surface that grips.

There is no need to scuff too much. You simply want to texturise the smooth surface.

Try these tips and your feet will be thanking you!
