Buhari Expresses Hopes From Meeting With Obama.

President Muhammadu Buhari on July 8 has listed his
expectations from the meeting with American President
Barack Obama.
Nigeria’s leader hopes that his forthcoming meeting with
American president will further fortify relationship between
Nigeria and the United States of America.
According to Femi Adesina, the presidential spokesman,
Buhari spoke at a meeting with the US Deputy Secretary of
State, Anthony J. Blinken, inside the Aso Rock in Abuja.
The president said his talks with Obama would also give
impulsion to his government’s efforts to get over the
challenge of insurgency.
Buhari said he was also seeking greater support from the US
for the Multinational Joint Task Force being organised
against Boko Haram.
The president noted that Nigeria and other Gulf of Guinea
nations will also greet more collaboration from the US to
intensify maritime security in the Gulf and curb crude oil
theft.
On his own turn, Blinken sympathized with Nigeria’s leader
and all Nigerians over the recent loss of lives in terrorist
attacks.
Blinken said he was certain that President Buhari’s election
will further spread out the frontiers of the existing
relationship between Nigeria and the United States.
He assured Buhari that American administration will be
ready to discuss all matters put forward by the Nigerian
government during Buhari’s visit to Washington DC.

It should be noted that U.S. President will host Nigerian
President Muhammadu Buhari at the White House on July

Abacha’s Personal Doctor Shed Light On How He Really Died

Professor Sadiq Suleiman Wali was General Sani Abacha’s personal doctor. Professor Wali spoke to the press, revealing the details of Abacha’s sudden death seventeen years after his mysterious demise.
Abacha’s Personal Doctor Shed Light On How He Really Died

Sani Abacha’s sudden death caused lots of rumours
An event in 1998 has changed the Nigerian history. By June 1998 Sani Abacha had ruled Nigeria for almost five years. Isolated by the West, Abacha had promised democratic election and a transition to the civilian rule by October 1998, but with just months to go the country’s five licensed political parties all nominated general Abacha as their candidate for president, his rule looked set to continue.

Professor Sadiq Suleiman Wali was General Sani Abacha’s personal doctor. Professor Wali describes Abacha as “a quiet person, calm person. He could be really firm on some issues, but normally he didn’t talk much.

Professor Wali has served as physician to the three previous Nigerian heads of state after being reluctantly recruited to that role in the early 1980-s. He considered himself politically neutral and lived outside the sprawling heavily guarded presidential complex known as Aso Rock in the capital Abuja. But he was a fixture in the presidential entourage.
Professor Wali says Abacha’s health was OK just before his death. “Abacha was generally healthy though he had some health issues, he was treated, he’s responded [to that treatment] very well. He didn’t have any heart-related diseases at that time.

On the 7 of June, 1998  Wali’d been with Abacha, as he hosted the Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat and all seemed well. The next morning General Sani Abacha was due to fly to the OAU summit being held in Burkina-Faso and professor Wali was due to go with him.
Professor Wali recounts that “around 6 am I had a phone call from his security officers, and they said, “please come, come to the villa, come urgently!”  Before I even could get ready, they came and picked me. I had no idea what it all was about.
The car carrying the doctor sped towards the presidential villa through a special entrance – a shortcut which only the president was allowed to use.

The doctor realised something was seriously wrong.
I arrived then I saw chief security there and he said “doctor come in, please, come in!” We all rushed and I just saw the president. There was another doctor who came earlier, resuscitating him. Abacha was in the sitting room. He was on the couch. He was in his normal work clothes. I didn’t panic. I’ve seen a lot of serious problems before in my practice, but to affect him was very tough, definitely. I joined and we did as much as we could to resuscitate him. But I realised that he was dead because he was firming. We just continued resuscitation and even injected some things, but it didn’t work.

After 40 minutes trying to resuscitate the stricken General Professor Wali declared that General Abacha had died. “I said, sorry – there’s nothing we can do”.
There was no immediate public announcement, in the country prone to coups Abacha’s head of security first increased the guard around the presidential complex and then called the heads of the armed forces to gather to decide on the replacement.
Immediately the security officer took over, and he invited all the service chiefs to come to Abuja, by then most of them were based in Lagos.” says doctor Wali.
When the service chiefs arrived, some of them asked to see the body to pay their respect to their former leader.

They wanted to make sure, that he is dead. And some of them were crying” – tells Wali.
Professor informed the family of what have happened. Obviously, the sudden death of an apparently healthy head of state raised a few questions.
Professor Wali was determined that there should be an autopsy to find out what caused the sudden heart attack. After much deliberating, the family declined, preferring the quick burial in line with Islamic tradition. But the doctor was determined to find some clues as to what have happened.

I still try to take some samples of blood and urine and hair and things like that, just thinking for the future chemical tests,” Professor Wali said, adding that “it’s very difficult to say [whether he died of natural causes]. What I can see. The blood test we did, has shown some raised cardiac enzymes [proteins that are released into the blood by dying heart muscles].That’s why we thought maybe it was cardiac attack.”

Every Nigerian has his own theory about what happened to General Abacha. There are rumours that he has been poisoned, or that he spent a night entertaining young ladies. Professor Wali conmented on those rumours that “when I entered [Abacha’s premises], there were no ladies. It might be true but I did not see them. Concerning the poison, as I said no post-mortem has been done, so I couldn’t assure whether he was poisoned or it was a heart attack.

While the generals deliberated on who would take over, plans were made to take Abacha’s body in his hometown of Kano later that day. It was decided to finally tell the public what had happened.  But the mystery around Abacha’s death still remains seventeen years after his sudden and unexpected demise.
Earlier Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, Chief Security Officer (CSO) of General Sani Abacha, who was Nigeria’s military Head of State from November 1993 to June 1998, told the press his own version of Sani Abacha’s last day.

Brain Damage, Heart Disease: Harmful Effects of Alcohol

Alcohol consumption varies from person to person; still,
there are people who do know not their limit or the
effects on their health.
Here are 10 facts you need to know about alcohol
consumption
According to the U.S. Dietary Guidelines, “safe” drinking for
women is limited to 1 drink per day and 2 drinks per day for
men.
There are no significant differences between someone who
drinks ‘safely’ and someone who never drinks. In some
cases, there’s strong evidence to suggest that moderate wine
consumption could actually benefit the heart.
People tend to handle and control the amount of alcohol
consumption differently. When you stay within the healthy
drinking limits, you are at a low risk for alcohol-related
health problems down the line.
Heavy drinking is more pronounced among young people
who tend to go on competitive binges. Young people are
advised not to go beyond five drinks for men and four for
women within two hours.
Alcohol slows down the pace of the neurotransmitters in
your brain that are critical for proper body responses and
even moods.
Heavy drinking increases the incidence of sexual assault,
violence and self-harm.
Drinking too much alcohol can also increase your risk for
certain cancers like mouth and breast. Regular heavy
drinking also increases the risk for some alcohol
dependence.
Regular binge drinking can damage the frontal cortex and
areas of the brain involved in executive functions and
decision making.
Long term drinking can also hurt your heart muscles making
them unable to contract properly. It can also harm liver,
pancreas and immune system function. Heavy drinking can
prevent the protective white blood cells in your body to
attack bacterial invaders like they’re supposed to.
Abstaining from alcohol over several months to a year may
allow structural brain changes to partially correct.
Abstinence also can help reverse negative effects on thinking
skills, including problem solving, memory, and attention..

Nigeria Has World's 3rd Highest IDPs After Iraq & Syria

The chairman of the National Human Rights
Commission, Prof Chidi Odinkalu, has revealed that
Nigeria comes after war-torn Syria and Iraq, with the
number of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) put at
almost a million.
He gave the figure on Monday, July 6, during a national
conference organised by the United Nations Millennium
Campaign (UNMC), the MDGs Office and the Open Society
Initiative for West Africa (OSIWA) with the theme, ‘Good
Governance Beyond 2015: Setting Agenda for Inclusive and
Sustainable Development in an Era of Change.’

Odinkalu, who attributed the development to the insurgency
ravaging the Northern part of the country, said the violence
has weakened the state and its institutions.
He quoted the Internal Displacement Monitoring Centre
(IDMC) Global Overview of 2014 which reads: “Boko Haram’s
ruthless campaign to establish an independent Islamic state
in North-eastern Nigeria also drove new significant
displacements.
“It was responsible for displacing more than three-quarters
of at least 975,300 people in the country during the year,
while many others fled inter-communal violence in the
Middle Belt region.”
The IDMC report revealed that as at the end of 2014, about
38 million people around the world were forced to leave
their homes as a result of armed conflicts and generalised
violence. He said these people are living in displacement,
around the borders of their own country. He said 11 million
new people were displaced from the beginning of the year.
He said no fewer than 30,000 people are displaced daily.
The report further reads: “Never in the last 10 years of
IDMC’s global reporting, from the peak of the Darfur crisis in
2004 have we reported such a high estimate for the number
of people newly displaced in a year. Today, there are almost
twice as many IDPs as there are refugees worldwide.”
Earlier on, the executive director of OSIWA, Abdul Tejan-
Cole, stated that the MDGs, which will end in September,
2015, would be replaced by the signing of the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs), by all the nations of the world
during a meeting on a new development agenda in New
York.
He said: “Nigeria has made very impressive progress with
the MDGs but the story of the MDGs is an unfinished
business because we still have issues like HIV, illiteracy,
hunger, sanitation and more. We are going to transit these
development issues to the next agenda.
“All the stakeholders are here and we shall be talking and
strategising on how we can lay the structural, institutional
and legal framework for the early implementation of the
SDGs.”
Odinkalu observed that the MDGs and likewise, the wider
project of development are founded on the beliefs of
human rights, human dignity and equality.
Meanwhile, in a response to the latest Boko Haram
bombings in mosques and churches in the northern region,
the Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Arase, has directed
all Commissioners of Police in the country to beef up
security at all worship centres..

5 ways on How to Improve your IQ

1. Minimize Television Watching – This is a hard sell.
People love vegetating in front of the television, myself
included more often than I’d like. The problem is watching
television doesn’t use your mental capacity OR allow it to
recharge. It’s like having the energy sapped out of a muscle
without the health benefits of exercise.
Don’t you feel drained after a couple hours of TV? Your
eyes are sore and tired from being focused on the light box
for so long. You don’t even have the energy to read a book.
When you feel like relaxing, try reading a book instead. If
you’re too tired, listen to some music. When you’re with
your friends or family, leave the tube off and have a
conversation. All of these things use your mind more than
television and allow you to relax.

2. Exercise – I used to think that I’d learn more by not
exercising and using the time to read a book instead. But I
realized that time spent exercising always leads to greater
learning because it improves productivity during the time
afterwards. Using your body clears your head and creates a
wave of energy. Afterwards, you feel invigorated and can
concentrate more easily.

3. Read Challenging Books – Many people like to read
popular suspense fiction, but generally these books aren’t
mentally stimulating. If you want to improve your thinking
and writing ability you should read books that make you
focus. Reading a classic novel can change your view of the
world and will make you think in more precise, elegant
English. Don’t be afraid to look up a word if you don’t know
it, and don’t be afraid of dense passages. Take your time,
re-read when necessary, and you’ll soon grow accustomed
to the author’s style.
Once you get used to reading challenging books, I think
you’ll find that you aren’t tempted to go back to page-
turners. The challenge of learning new ideas is far more
exciting than any tacky suspense-thriller.

4. Early to Bed, Early to Rise – Nothing makes it harder to
concentrate than sleep deprivation. You’ll be most
rejuvenated if you go to bed early and don’t sleep more
than 8 hours. If you stay up late and compensate by
sleeping late, you’ll wake up lethargic and have trouble
focusing. In my experience the early morning hours are the
most tranquil and productive. Waking up early gives you
more productive hours and maximizes your mental acuity
all day.
If you have the opportunity, take 10-20 minute naps when
you are hit with a wave of drowsiness. Anything longer will
make you lethargic, but a short nap will refresh you.

5. Take Time to Reflect – Often our lives get so hectic that
we become overwhelmed without even realizing it. It
becomes difficult to concentrate because nagging thoughts
keep interrupting. Spending some time alone in reflection
gives you a chance organize your thoughts and prioritize
your responsibilities. Afterwards, you’ll have a better
understanding of what’s important and what isn’t. The
unimportant stuff won’t bother you anymore and your
mind will feel less encumbered.
I’m not saying you need to sit on the floor cross-legged and
chant ‘ommm’. Anything that allows a bit of prolonged
solitude will do. One of my personal favorites is taking a
solitary walk. Someone famous said, “All the best ideas
occur while walking.” I think he was on to something.
Experiment to find the activity that works best for you.
Conclusion – I hope you aren’t disappointed that none of
the techniques I’ve proposed are revolutionary. But simple,
unexciting answers are often the most valid. The challenge
is having the will to adhere to them. If you succeed in
following these 5 tips, you’ll be rewarded with increased
mental acuity and retention of knowledge.

Corruption Is Why Govs Can't Pay Salaries – Saraki

The Senate President, Bukola Saraki has blamed
the inability of some state governors to meet the duties
of their workers and the entire citizens to the issue of
corruption .
Saraki stated this on Monday during a courtesy visit from
top officials of the Independent Corrupt Practices
Commission (ICPC) led by the Chairman of the agency, Ekpo
Nta.
The senate president complained that the level of corruption
in Nigeria had taken a dangerous aspect to the extent that
the three levels of government were finding it difficult to pay
salaries and provide basic social infrastructure.
Saraki said the 8th Senate has a no tolerance level for
corruption, adding that corruption is truly affecting the
national development of the country.
He said: “The cost of corruption on our national life is
beyond financial cost. You see in some states now that they
are not paying salaries, it had led to poor funding of the
education and health sectors and it’s affecting cost of
governance and failure of public institutions and
infrastructure.”
He pledged that the eight senate would work closely with the
ICPC and other anti graft agencies to fight the scourge.
The chairman ICPC in his response said the Act that
established the agency, was the first Act of parliament that
addressed corruption directly and that the United Nations
convention against corruption came four years later in 2004.
In a related development, President Muhammadu Buhari
has approved a comprehensive relief package valued at
over N400bn to put an end to the lingering crisis of unpaid
workers salaries in the country..
