House of Reps to investigate alleged NAPIMS $260m Oil Contract

The House of Representatives yesterday Feb. 24th directed its Committees on Petroleum Upstream and Public Procurement to investigate an alleged $260 million dollars oil contract awarded by the National Petroleum Investment Management Services (NAPIMS), a subsidiary of the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC.

This directive followed a debate on a motion raised by Rep. Gabriel Kolawole (Akoko South East/South West Federal Constituency, Ondo State – APC). Hon Kolawole said that NAPIMS, granted approval for Esso Exploration, a subsidiary of Exxon Mobile to award four single source contracts for projects in Exxon Mobil’s Usan Deep water project at the total sum of $260 million without a tendering process.

Thye further explained that NAPIMS had, through three memoranda dated October 13, 2014, February 10, 2015 and April 16, 2015, single handedly nominated four companies to execute the contracts  without approval from both the Board of the NNPC and its Group Executive Committee (GEC).

The joint committees have been given a period of 4 weeks to investigate the matter and report back to the House.

Pope: wealth and power are good, but only when used to serve

On Wednesday Pope Francis cautioned that unless wealth and power are put at the service of society, especially the poor, they risk becoming instruments of corruption, private interests and various forms of abuse.

“Wealth and power are realities which can be good and useful for the common good, if they are put at the service of the poor and of everyone, with justice and charity,” the Pope said Feb. 24.

However, when they are instead lived “as a privilege with egoism and power, as too often happens, they are transformed into instruments of corruption and death.”

Pope Francis spoke to pilgrims gathered in St. Peter’s Square for his Wednesday general audience, which he dedicated to his ongoing catechesis on mercy in scripture.
In his speech, the Pope noted that throughout scripture, stories are told about different prophets, kings and men who are at the top of the ladder, as well as the “arrogance and abuses” they frequently commit.

Turning to the story of Naboth in the First Book of Kings, who was killed for refusing to sell his vineyard to the king Ahab, Francis used the passage as the center of his reflections.

While the king’s initial offer to purchase the vineyard seemed legitimate and even generous, properties in Israel were considered inalienable, Francis noted, explaining that since Naboth’s land was considered a sacred gift from God to be guarded and preserved, he refused to sell it.

Ahab reacted with “bitterness and outrage” and was offended because “he is the king, he is powerful! He feels belittled in his sovereign authority, and frustrated in his ability to satisfy his desire for possession,” the Pope said.

He noted that as a result, Ahab’s wife Jezebel, who was involved with cults and had killed several prophets, writes letters in the king’s name to the nobles and elders asking them to accuse Naboth of cursing God and the king, and to stone him.

“This is how the story ends: Naboth dies and the king can take possession of his vineyard,” Francis observed, explaining that this isn’t just “a story of the past, it's a story of today.”
It’s the story, he said, “of the powerful who, in order to get more money, exploit the poor, exploit people; it's the story of the trafficking of persons, of slave labor, of poor people who work in black with the minimum, it's the story of corrupt politicians who always want more and more and more.”

This, Francis continued, where authority is exercised with no justice, mercy or respect for life. “And this is what brings the thirst for power: it becomes greed and wants to possess everything.”

Pope Francis pointed to Jesus’ declaration to the apostles in the Gospel of Matthew that “whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave.”
He cautioned that when the dimension of service is lost, “power becomes arrogance, domination and abuse. This is exactly what happens in the episode of the vineyard of Naboth.”

God, however, is greater than the evil and “dirty games” of humanity, he said, noting that in his mercy the Lord sends the prophet Elijah to help Ahab convert.

Although God saw the king’s crime, “he knocks at the heart of Ahab. And the king, placed in front of his sin, understands, humbles himself and asks forgiveness,” the Pope said, adding that it would be nice if the “the powerful exploiters of today” imitated the king’s gesture.

However, Francis cautioned that just because the Lord accepted Ahab’s penance, an innocent person was killed, which is an act that will continue to have “inevitable consequences.”

“The evil done in fact leaves its painful traces, and the story of mankind bears the wounds,” he said, but noted that God’s act of mercy shows us the main path that must be pursued.

Mercy can heal wounds and can change the course of history, the Pope said, and encouraged pilgrims to open their hearts to God’s mercy. He said that divine mercy “is stronger than man's sin,” and that the power of the true king, Jesus Christ, “is completely different” than that of the world.

“His throne is the Cross...His going to everyone, especially the weak, defeats the loneliness and fate of death which sin leads to.”

Man who killed his lover while using a cucumber as a sex toy during sex goes on trial

A German sales man, 46 year old Oliver Dietmann, who was having kinky sex with his lover, 46 year old Rica Varna is facing a 5 year prison sentence for her death.

Dietmann said he had met Rica in 2004 as just friends but that their relationship had become sexual in 2009. According to Daily Mail, Dietmann said during their sexual relationship, they had always used vegetables in place of sex toys, vegetables like cucumbers, carrots etc for sexual pleasures.

He added that he had invited Rica to his house on July 19th 2014 and admitted that they had drunk four bottles of wine between them and several glasses of schnapps.

The court in Mannheim where Dietmann is on trial had Rica's family, her Dad and sister, in court, listening to the explicit details of the day their sister/daughter died.
He said on that day, after he had pleasured Rica with a cucumber, he put it it in her mouth. But then he saw smoke coming from his kitchen and ran to the kitchen, forgetting the cucumber in Rica's mouth.

He said:
"I forgot that I had put a piece of meat on the stove for my dog. 'I ran to the kitchen, fed my dog and then went on to the balcony to smoke a cigarette.'
He said by the time he returned to the bedroom, Rica was unconscious.
He added:

'I tried to get the cucumber pieces out of her mouth,' he said, 'but they were so mushy I couldn't get any purchase at all.'
Medical experts during the trial said that the cucumber had gotten wedged in her throat, when he had left her unattended and that had cut off her air supply and plunged her into a coma.

A verdict in the case is due on Friday.

9 Signs You’re in very Bad Relationship (MUST READ)

9 signs you’re in very bad relationship

Being in a relationship means being with someone who loves you and cares for you. You might not need materialistic expression of that in form of gifts and dinners but the support always keeps a person going. However, if you are in a bad relationship, there is no benefit in that. Here are 9 signs of a relationship that is bringing you down:

9. No space.

He is suffocating you by constantly standing on your head. You cannot go out with your friends, you cannot be without him and you’ve to report to him for whatever you do. If you don’t have space, you will get sick of him sooner or later. So you might rethink what do you want to do in future.

8. You have lost your identity.

You have been fulfilling his demands for so long that you have forgotten that you are a person too. You cannot even change an apartment without his consent because it might be far away from his place. You can’t follow your dreams and ambitions because it is getting in the way of his dreams and goals.

7. You’re always tired.

Whether it is the love or the general chores, you are constantly being exhausted. There has come a point when you feel that you are no longer a person but a giving machine. You don’t deserve that. Cut yourself some slack and either share the responsibilities or leave him.

6. You doubt you’re both compatible.

You feel like you both are not even compatible. Your ideas don’t match or you both can’t seem to agree on most of the things. The constant fights and arguments are not what makes a relationship special. If you both are not compatible then there is no point of a relationship at all.

5. You are constantly asking yourself if you want this.

Do you want to stay committed now? Or you in for a long-term relationship? Do you realise that you will eventually get married and have children? If these questions are scaring you off then don’t waste the other person’s time. Don’t just flirt and pass time. Let them go.

4. You both have different priorities.

If you both have different priorities then it is possible that your relationship will not work out. You might have started realizing this by now. Understand that no matter how much you love each other, a lot of compromises will eventually break you both apart.

3. It doesn’t feel like love.

There are two things that can bring someone into a relationship. It can either be lust or love. Understand that. If the other person is in just to satisfy his needs then he can go and find a hooker. You don’t have to compromise on that.

2. The spark is gone.

It feels like you guys are an old married couple instead of young people in love. Things have become in such a way that you guys don’t even feel like a young couple among your friends. A young person in love is fresh, happy and over the moon. There’s this constant spark in your eyes. If your life is as dull as it always was, reassess!

1. You enjoy more with other people.

He is just boring. Nothing he does is fun. If his idea of fun is the Super Sunday Barclays Premier League game and you have zero interest in football, then don’t just with him and watch the game. If he cannot do the things you like with him and imposes his ideas on you, it’s time to part way.
Remember, there is no point in suffering out of the fear of unknown! Stay happy and spread happiness.

WAEC to Commence CBT Examination Mode Soon

WAEC to Commence CBT
The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) is considering migrating to the Computer-Based Test (CBT) mode of examinations for it examinations, the Registrar disclosed in Lagos.

The Registrar of council, Dr Iyi Uwadiae, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

According to him, the council is considering all variables available to ensure that the entire process is not messed up.

He, however, noted that the council was not in a hurry to migrate because the council basically conducts achievement tests and not selection tests.
“We have looked at the issue of CBT and found that this is not a selection test, where one can deal with paper and pencil.

“With that, you can easily migrate to CBT, but for an achievement test where you train people to become engineers, medical doctors and others, there will be need for practical experience.

“So, they do not just train them practically in the class, they equally need to be tested on theory.
“Again this background, therefore, we are collaborating with other examination bodies and experts outside Nigeria to ensure that when we start, we will not mess up the entire process.
“And what is expected of the candidates can still be achieved,’’ he said.
Uwadiae noted that the council was being cautious in getting it done because there were many things involved.

“We are not in a hurry to move in there but with time, we are going to migrate into it and start with the objective tests.
“We have to still do the practical aspect because we want to be sure that all schools are on the same level.

“They must be on the same level in terms of learning and all other aspects so that we can be able to have confidence on the reliability of the continuous assessment and practicals, which their teachers will give us.
“For now, we cannot say what we get from these teachers are reliable as we insist on continuous assessment.
“We need to go to these schools and match them against any standard tests,’’ the registrar said.

On the persistent poor performance of candidates, Uwadiae said the issue was not peculiar to Nigeria alone.
He noted that effective teaching and learning were no longer taking place in schools, coupled with the issue of dearth of infrastructure.
According to him, students seldom stay in the classrooms; they spend more time on the internet and do not read and all that.
He explained that such students were not expected to perform miracles during examinations.

“We compare our standards with that of other examination bodies in Nigeria and internationally and so we cannot lower our standards.
“Our examinations are taken by candidates of five different countries and it is the same examination.
“We have our own internal mechanism, as well as a very functional research outfit.
“For every examination, we do a research to find out why candidates perform poorly and if after this, we still have some doubts, we do what is called post item analysis.
“Invariably we find out that our items are not bad.
“The teachers are the ones who set the questions, moderate and mark them; we only collate and release results as adjudged by the experts,’’ the council boss added. (NAN)

BREAKING NEWS: EFCC arrests former PDP acting chairman- Uche Secondus

The immediate past acting Chairman of PDP, Uche Secondus, has been arrested by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC. A statement by PDP's national legal adviser, Victor Kwon, says Secondus is being accused of illegally receiving a number of buses and demands that the buses be returned. The statement in part reads;

“The oppressive and unfair treatments against its key leaders by the Federal Government. The party alerts the nation that the arrest and detention of its Deputy National Chairman, Prince Uche Secondus by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) is part of the grand script by the APC-led Federal Government to decimate the opposition,”. The statement alleged that there were plans by EFCC to “arrest and detain the Deputy Senate President, Senator Ike Ekweremadu, Senate Minority Leader, Senator Godswill Akpabio and other leaders of the party on imaginary charges. Indeed, intelligence available to the party shows that the Federal Government, using its various agencies, is bent on destroying any opposition to the ruling party as all indications show that the government is more interested in humiliating the PDP than fighting corruption'.
