EFCC seizes $1million cash from Badeh’s Abuja home

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) says it  found $1 million cash in one of the Abuja houses owned by embattled former Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief Marshal Alex Badeh. According to The Nation, the money was found hidden in one of the rooms in a mansion owned by the former military chief.

Badeh's trial for allegedly diverting N3.97 billion belonging to the Nigerian Air Force(NAF) will commence today March 7th at an Abuja High Court.

A top source in EFCC said:
“Apart from NAF funds, investigation confirmed that Badeh diverted funds meant for procurement of arms to Bureau De Change. We have interacted with some Bureau De Change operators. When we searched his mansion at 6, Ogun River Street in Maitama District in Abuja, $1million raw cash was found in one of the rooms. Our operatives made sure that the search of the house was conducted in the presence of Badeh’s neighbours who can attest to the discovery. We ensured that these neighbours witnessed our operation. Badeh has a case to answer on diversion of funds voted for arms procurement. I cannot tell you whether or not he will face separate charges on the $1million".

Fulani herdsmen actions more deadly than B'Haram – CAN

http://benue.info/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/wpid-benue-clash.jpg

The actions of Fulani herdsmen have been described as more devastating than Boko Haram following the continued killing of Nigerians in cities and villages.

This position was made by the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN), after a meeting by the Southeast zone of the group in Enugu, on Sunday, March 6.

According to the Christian body, it was high time the government took decisive action towards curbing the menace of the Fulani herdsmen, Today.ng reports.

Referring to the recent killing of hundreds of villagers in Agatu, Benue state, the South East CAN said it was surprised that the herdsmen were murderously attacking communities with AK47 riffles while security agencies looked the other way.

The actions of Fulani herdsmen have been described as more devastating than Boko Haram by CAN following the continued killing of Nigerians in cities and villages

Most Rev. Prof. David Eberechukwu, the president of CAN in the zone and Dr. Ajujungwa Josephthe, the national chairman, Christian Enlightenment and Welfare Organization (CEWO) in a statement said: “Where do herdsmen get AK47 guns they carry and does it mean that both the police and the Army are not seeing them?”

“It has been a great burden on the church in the East with regards to the attack by Fulani herdsmen on every part of the six geo-political zones in the country, with much emphasis on the southern Nigeria and the North central zones.

“The attacks of the Fulani herdsmen on the innocent citizens of this country have become a nightmare on their host communities. The incessant rapes and murder of peace loving Nigerians is highly condemnable.
“We condemn the idea of grazing fields and ask the sponsors of such bill to desist from it. This is clearly importation of terrorists into the nation and peace will elude the entire country.”

“We urge the National Assembly never to pass such bill as we call on the federal government to come to the aid of the terrorized communities, where the herdsmen have created more problems than the Boko Haram.
“We advocate the building of ranches, which will in turn provide schools, hospitals and employment to the teeming unemployed youths. This is what is obtainable in developed countries.

“We also call on the State Governors to protect the communities under such threat and also strengthen community policing through the traditional rulers.”

Naij.com had reported days back that Agatu local government area was under attack by over 300 militants, a development which was reported to have erupted following the Senate south rerun election in the state.

It was gathered that at least 300 persons were confirmed dead following the siege on Agatu local government area of Benue state.

Afcon: Siasia axes three players from camp

Coach Samson Siasia has barred defender Segun Oduduwa and midfielders Stanley Dimgba and Usman Mohammed from showing up at the Bolton White Apartments camp of the Super Eagles, after they reported late to the camp of the U-23 team without an earlier permission.

“We cannot have those three in camp anymore,” Siasia started . This is very serious business, and only serious –minded persons can be involved. They reported late to the camp of the U-23 team, so they cannot be tolerated in the camp of the senior team.

“I have said it over the past few days that the right mentality would count big among the traits we are looking for in the players to feature against Egypt.”

Oduduwa and Mohammed were in the U-23 squad that won the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations in Senegal in December 2015, while Dimgba has trained with the team and the Eagles B previously.

The Super Eagles’ new boss is known to be a disciplinarian. He threw out star midfielder Kingsley Sokari and talented forward Daniel Etor from his squad to the Africa U-23 Cup of Nations after the duo opted to play for their club, Enyimba FC, in a final NPFL season game in Lagos in November 2015, against his instructions.

The exclusion of the trio means only 40 players are now in contention for shirts in the 2017 Africa Cup of Nations double-header against Egypt, with 19 home boys to train for two weeks before the arrival of 21 overseas-based players on the week of the first game in Kaduna.

Wow! What a world.

God did not create us to remain crushed by sin, Pope says

Leading his annual penitential service on Friday, Pope Francis told attendees to stand tall and be open to forgiveness, and not to let themselves remain under the heavy burden of sin.

“Let us cast off...all that prevents us from racing towards him, unafraid of leaving behind those things which make us feel safe and to which we are attached,” the Pope said March 4.
He told attendees not to “remain sedentary, but let us get up and find our spiritual worth again, our dignity as loved sons and daughters who stand before the Lord so that we can be seen by him, forgiven and recreated.”

Pointing to the word “recreated,” Francis said it arrives to the heart of each person present, because it’s a reminder of what God said when he created man: “Rise! God has created us to stand. Arise.”
The Pope’s homily was part of the annual “24 Hours for the Lord” event, which takes place the fourth Friday and Saturday of Lent inside St. Peter’s Basilica.

A worldwide initiative led by Pope Francis, the event points to confession as a primary way to experience God's merciful embrace. It was launched in 2014 under the auspices of the Pontifical Council for the Promotion of the New Evangelization.

Cardinals, bishops, priests and religious are invited by the Vatican to participate in the event by gathering around the Altar of the Confession inside the basilica.

As part of the penitential service, Pope Francis went to confession himself before administering the sacrament himself to a number of individuals.

Following the service in the Vatican, Churches throughout Rome will remain open for 24 hours to give pilgrims the opportunity to go to Confession and take part in Eucharistic Adoration.

In his homily, the Pope focused on the Gospel passage from Mark Chapter 10, in which a blind man named Bartimaeus hears that Jesus is passing by and calls out to him. As those around try to silence him, Bartimaeus cries out even louder.

Jesus hears him, stops and asks his disciples to bring Bartimaeus to him. When Bartimaeus arrives and asks to receive his sight, Jesus heals him immediately.

Pope Francis said the passage “has great symbolic value for our lives,” since each person finds themselves in the place of Bartimaeus.

“His blindness led him to poverty and to living on the outskirts of the city, dependent on others for everything he needed,” the pontiff said, explaining that sin has the same effect: “it impoverishes and isolates us.”

The blindness of sin leads us little by little to concentrate on what is superficial and to be indifferent to others, he said, noting that there are many temptations which have the power “to cloud the heart’s vision and to make it myopic!”

The Pope admitted that it is easy to be misguided, but cautioned that when we give into the temptation of only looking at ourselves, “we become blind, lifeless and self-centered, devoid of joy and true freedom.”

Jesus, however, passes by us and stops to listen in the same way that he did in the Gospel, the Pope said, explaining that like Bartimaeus, “our hearts race, because we realize that the Light is gazing upon us...which invites us to come out of our dark blindness.”

The closeness of Jesus makes us realize that something is missing when we are far away from him, Pope Francis said, adding that it is the presence of God which makes us feel the need for salvation and which “begins the healing of our heart.”

However, Francis lamented that there are always people like those in the Gospel who don’t want to stop when they see someone else suffering. These people, he said, prefer “to silence and rebuke the person in need who is only a nuisance.”

Francis said that by brushing these people off, we not only keep ourselves far from the Lord, but others as well. He prayed that everyone would realize that “we are all begging for God’s love, and not allow ourselves to miss the Lord as he passes by.”

The Pope then turned to role of pastors in the confessional, saying they are called in a special way “to hear the cry, perhaps hidden, of all those who wish to encounter the Lord.”

He encouraged them to re-examine behaviors that can get in the way of helping others draw close to Jesus, and to ask themselves if they are putting schedules, programs and regulations ahead of the desire for forgiveness.

Touching on the topic of God’s tenderness, the Pope said pastors must “certainly not water down the demands of the Gospel,” but at the same time they can’t risk “frustrating the desire of the sinner to be reconciled with the Father,” he said.

“We have been sent to inspire courage, to support and to lead others to Jesus,” he said, adding that their ministry “is one of accompaniment, so that the encounter with the Lord may be personal and intimate” and without fear.

Pope Francis concluded by noting how at the end of the Gospel, Bartimaeus immediately received his sight after speaking with Jesus, and then followed him.

When we draw near to Jesus like Bartimaeus did, “we too see once more the light which enables us to look to the future with confidence,” and which gives us the strength and courage to move forward, he said.

Francis encouraged attendees to follow Jesus “as faithful disciples,” so that they help everyone they meet to have the same experience of joy in receiving God’s his merciful love.
After “the embrace of the Father, the forgiveness of the Father,” in confession, the Pope told attendees to “celebrate in our hearts, because he is celebrating.”

‘How we kidnapped the 3 school girls,’ Suspects

The kidnappers of three abducted schoolgirls of Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary in Ikorodu, Lagos, have revealed how they carried out the opearation.

You will recall that the girls were abducted at gun point from their school On February 29, 2016.

One of the suspects, Mr. Arigidi, who spoke to newsmen, said “We went to Maya bridge to enter canoe and went to the school around 8 p.m.

“After we gained entrance into the school, we took away three girls and we took them to our hideout. But along the line, we had disagreement between ourselves and I was actually the one that started it. I told other members of the gang that what we have done is not good and that I don’t like it.

“I know that security in Lagos State is now tight and I was telling others that there was no way we would get away with this kind of job considering the level of security in the state.”

Adding that “Three days after I ran away, operatives of the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) then arrested me somewhere in Majidun and that was how I told them how we planned the attack.”

Agiri also said “One thing I will like to say is that if not for the fact that I was arrested, they would not have seen the girls because I was the one that revealed everything to the police.”
Reports say the girls have since regained their freedom.
