Lagos State Govt begins integrity tests on Lekki Gardens buildings

Less than two weeks after a building under construction by Lekki Gardens collapsed, killing no fewer than 35 people, Lagos State Govt says stability tests on buildings constructed by the building company to ascertain their structural integrity have commenced.
According to the acting General Manager of the Lagos State Materials Testing Laboratory, Rasheed Balogun, the test is to ascertain the 'liveability status' of all buildings constructed by Lekki Gardens.

He said the tests would be non-destructive test and partial destructive in some cases. It would also be extended to other construction sites and estates within and around the Lekki area to confirm their status.
According to Mr Balogun, the tests will be conducted on some buildings without sending away the occupants in the Lekki Gardens Estate in order not to cause them discomfort. However, he said vacating the structures was the best option and would speed up the testing process.
He urged the occupiers of structures within the Lekki Gardens Estate, to comply with the vacation order of the governor, and vacate the buildings until investigations were completed.

80 abducted Chibok girls were found by US- Former UK Ambassador to Nigeria says

In a recent interview with The Sunday Times, a UK Newspaper, former British High Commissioner to Nigeria, Andrew Pocock, says that 80 of the Government Girls College Students who were abducted by Boko Haram members in April 2014, were spotted in Sambisa forest by a team of British and American surveillance but they could not rescue them as the Nigerian government made no request for help.

“A couple of months after the kidnapping, fly-bys and an American ‘eye in the sky’ spotted a group of up to 80 girls in a particular spot in the Sambisa forest, around a very large tree — called locally the Tree of Life — along with evidence of vehicular movement and a large encampment. They were there for perhaps up to four weeks, and the question was what to do about them. Answer came there none.”
He said despite all the BBOG campaigns in London and the White House, the British and American troops could not immediately go in to rescue the girls because the Nigerians never asked for that
“What’s more,” Pocock says, “the Nigerians never asked for that.”
He however pointed out that if the Nigerian government had even asked for help, he said the safety of the girls would have been of utmost priority as it would have been very risky to go in and carryout any rescue operation
“A land-based attack would have been seen coming miles away and the girls killed. An air-based rescue would have required large numbers and meant a significant risk to the rescuers and even more to the girls. You might have rescued a few, but many would have been killed. My personal fear was always about the girls not in that encampment. 80 were there, but 250 were taken, so the bulk were not there. What would have happened to them? It’s perfectly conceivable that Shekau, the leader of Boko Haram, would have appeared on one of his videos a week later, saying, ‘Who told you that you could try and free these girls? Let me show you what I’ve done to them…’ So you were damned if you did, damned if you didn’t. They were beyond rescue, in practical terms."he said

Air Force Acquires More Aircraft, Promises Better Welfare

Air Force

The Nigerian Air Force says it has recorded 100% increase of serviceable aircraft to address the current national security threat in Nigeria.

Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, said this during the commissioning ceremony of staff accommodation in Kano’s Air Force base.
He said that Government is determined to reposition the Nigerian Air Force into a highly professional service through capacity building.
Accompanied by top ranking officers, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar said that the Nigerian Air Force must continue to remain vibrant towards the nation’s air defence.Aircraft
He added that in order to achieve that, officers and men of the service also need to have a robust welfare package that will make them comfortable in confronting any kind of security threat.
Officers and men of the service had lacked adequate accommodation for mostly their family, a problem Sadique said is capable of dividing their attention in executing their duties.
To him, accommodation, healthcare facilities, capacity building among others should come first in any security institution across the country.
Meanwhile, the Air Chief has said that accommodation package for the personnel would continue across all Air Force bases across the country.
He added that with better welfare and equipment, there would be no hiding place for criminals.

7 Ways To Get The Attention Of Your Internet Crush

internet crush

Having an internet crush and flirting online are things a lot of people do but fail to get right.

This is so because they allow their crush overcome the way they feel which usually leads to them making some unforgivable mistakes while seeking their attention. We have a solution to that and you sure can get your crush swooning over you in no time by following these 7 tips.

Be Updated On Their Movies And Music
Learn the kind of music and movies your crush loves and update your knowledge on them. A Google search should be sufficient in finding out the latest news regarding your crush’s interests which can go a long way in catching their attention. Check out what shows, movies and music your crush is into, and keep them updated. A simple Google search can help you find out the latest news about your crush’s interests. For example, if your crush likes a particular music artist, send them the latest music or news regarding the artist.

If it’s television shows your crush loves, try not to throw up spoilers as a lot of people are touchy regarding that. Throw up hints that tell them you picked interest in the show because of them.

Have Opposite Opinions
Having opposite opinions on issues with your crush can help to encourage more interesting conversations. For instance, you may enjoy afro hip hop songs while your crush may enjoy traditional African contemporary genres like fuji.

Point this fact out, and sensible arguments filled with facts about how younger music artistes ate better than contemporary singers. This will likely lead to interesting debates where you can agree to disagree or allow your crush win.

Slow Down On The Likes
It can be quite creepy for your crush if you like everything they post on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. If you must like their posts, like only a few smart posts so as to avoid setting their notifications on fire.

More so, liking too much of their pictures can make them think of you as a stalker as opposed to liking some selective pictures which can trigger interest in your crush. This can help to keep them guessing which helps you get what you want – their attention.

Leave Engaging Comments
By engaging, we mean you should leave comments that will trigger their interests. Comment on their photos and on the things they are doing. Your comments should trigger a reply from them that won’t just be a thank you in appreciation. Interacting with your crush is better in getting their attention than watching them from afar. You can try teasing them but be sure of what both of you want before taking things to the next stage.

Know Your Crush
Having an idea of what your crush was doing or wearing can go a long way in getting their attention. You can acknowledge their presence if you bump into them with a greeting or smile. Over the Internet is a different game as you can put what you learnt to good use. Simply tell them what they were doing or wearing the moment you saw them.

A simple compliment like “I liked your outfit today, who makes your native wears?” can go a long way. This statement sends a message across that you were paying attention to them more than they knew.

Be Mysterious
If you get an online message from your crush, avoid the temptation of replying with a barrage of messages. Take your time and think of the best words to reply. This will make you look less eager. You should also consider answering some of the questions they ask vaguely. If they ask you what you will be up to, simply say you’d be going out without getting into specifics of the place. This will naturally trigger a chain reply where you can conveniently chip in that they would be welcome to join you.

Tag Your Pictures Together
There’s no reason to be shy if you’ve spent time with your crush. Tagging your pictures together is a way of letting your friends and their friends know that you’ve got something. It’s also a way of letting people know that you’re spending time together and it can serve as a subtle way of reminding everyone, yourself inclusive that you’re having fun with your crush.

Pope Francis to world leaders: open your doors to migrants

Pope Francis greets pilgrims during his March 16, 2016 general audience. Credit: Daniel Ibañez/EWTN.

On Wednesday Pope Francis renewed his appeal on behalf of the tens of thousands struggling to enter other countries as they flee war and violence, asking global leaders to “open their hearts” and doors to migrants and refugees.

“How many of our brothers are currently living a real and dramatic situation of exile, far away from their homeland, with their eyes still full of the rubble of their homes, and in their heart the fear, and often, unfortunately, the pain of having lost loved ones,” the Pope said March 16.

Such cases can often lead one to ask questions such as “where is God? How is it possible that so much suffering befalls innocent men, women and children?” he said.

Francis lamented that migrants and refugees fleeing violence in their homeland frequently find “closed doors” when attempting to enter another country.

These people suffer due to a loss of land, a lack of food, and they “don’t feel welcome,” he said, adding that “I like it a lot when I see nations, governments, who open their hearts and open their doors” to the migrants and refugees seeking to enter.

Pope Francis spoke to the nearly 40,000 pilgrims in St. Peter’s Square for his his March 16 general audience.

He continued his catechesis on mercy as understood through scripture, focusing his speech on Chapters 30-31 of the Book of Jeremiah, which also referred to as the “book of consolation” due to the hope the prophet announces.

Francis noted how in the passage read at the audience, the prophet Jeremiah goes to the Israelites, who were in exile, and announces the return to their homeland.

The re-entrance of the Israelites into their land is a sign “of the infinite love of God the Father who does not abandon his children, but cares for them and saves them,” he said.

The period of exile was “devastating” for Israel, he said, noting that after suffering so much due to the destruction of their country and the loss of their temple, it was hard for them to continue believing in the Lord’s goodness.

Pope Francis explained that we also experience a sort of exile today when experiences of suffering and death make us think that God has abandoned us.

However, despite the feelings of forgotten-ness and abandonment in such situations, the prophet Jeremiah gives us another response: “the exiled people can return to see their land and experience the mercy of the Lord.”

“God is not absent,” he said, explaining that this also goes for the “dramatic situations” of war and violence today.

He said that “we must not give in to despair,” but continue “to be confident that good overcomes evil and that the Lord dries every tear and frees us from every fear.”

Francis closed his address by pointing to the Jeremiah’s announcement that “I will turn their mourning into gladness, I will give them comfort and joy.”

Jesus has brought this message to fulfillment, he said, explaining that the “the true and radical return from exile and the comforting light after the darkness of the crisis of faith,” takes place at Easter.

In the resurrection of Jesus on Easter, we see “the full and definitive experience of the love of God, a merciful love which gives peace, joy and eternal life.”

After his speech Pope Francis offered special greetings to groups of pilgrims present from different countries around the world. In his greeting to Arab-speaking pilgrims, the Pope offered his solidarity to those in the Middle East who are currently suffering due to war and violence.

He lamented that there are many people who experience exile, desperation, grief and persecution, which can push one to doubt God’s love and goodness.

This doubt, he said, “dissipates in front of the truth that God is faithful, close, and keeps his promise to those who do not doubt Him, and for those who hope against hope.”

Francis noted that the Lord’s consolation is near to those “who pass through the agonizing night of doubt, clinging and hoping for the dawn of the Mercy of God, which the totality of the darkness and injustice will never be able to defeat.”

He closed his remarks by praying that the Lord would bless all who are living in such dramatic situations, and protect them from evil.
